[English below] Il aura fallu attendre six ans pour revoir Thirty Seconds to Mars sur scène dans la capitale. Et le moins que l’on puisse dire, c’est que les fans étaient au rendez-vous pour cette nouvelle messe des frères Leto.
Le groupe n’a pas fait les choses à moitié, avec une scène au style minimaliste cernée de LED et d’écrans. C’est sur ces derniers que le compte à rebours annonçant le début des hostilités apparaît, tandis que le groupe fait son entrée au milieu de la salle, permettant ainsi à leurs fans de les approcher de très près. Les premières notes de Up in the Air résonnent dans l’imposante arena, sublimée par une pluie de confettis roses. Le public embarque immédiatement à bord de l’OVNI 30STM, piloté par un Jared Leto qui, bien que malade ce soir-là, compte bien livrer une prestation de showman comme il en a le secret !
Les morceaux s’enchaînent et ne se ressemblent pas, la scène se pare de multiples couleurs, les néons s’illuminent et le feu jaillit à quelques mètres de la fosse or. La setlist a d’ailleurs été pensée pour permettre à tous d’y trouver son compte. Bien que le groupe soit là pour présenter son dernier album en date, It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day, les anciens succès ne sont pas en reste. Kings and Queens, Hurricane ou encore Rescue Me sont proposés aux fans nostalgiques. Et c’est sur cette dernière que Jared Leto en profite pour inviter des fans à le rejoindre sur scène. Ce n’est pas une découverte, le frontman de Thirty Seconds to Mars aime se sentir proche de son public. Il n’hésitera pas à proposer à des fans placés loin dans les gradins de venir remplir les nombreuses places VIP restées inoccupées ou se risquera à de nombreuses interactions dans la langue de Molière. C’est d’ailleurs durant l’une d’elles qu’il prévient avoir une annonce “très très ouf” pour le public français. Le groupe compte revenir dès l’année prochaine à Paris pour un concert exceptionnel dédié à l’album A Beautiful Lie !
Après un rappel durant lequel les musiciens se font désirer pendant de longues minutes, l’Accor Arena communie une dernière fois sur les trois derniers morceaux de la setlist, et pas des moindres. Stuck, The Kill (Bury Me) et Closer to the Edge s’enchaînent, portés par une salle en ébullition, qui chante à l’unisson avec le groupe. Comme le veut la tradition, la dernière chanson sera l’occasion pour Jared de partager une dernière fois un moment de proximité avec son public, faisant monter un grand nombre de fans sur scène et n’hésitant pas à danser avec eux et à les prendre dans les bras.
Cette fois encore, Thirty Seconds to Mars a prouvé sa capacité à se réinventer en proposant des shows toujours plus aboutis. On regrettera simplement la présence de bande son passant parfois (souvent) par-dessus la voix du chanteur. Le rendez-vous est pris pour l’année prochaine, avec la promesse d’un voyage dans le passé de 20 ans lorsqu’en 2005, un groupe pas encore si populaire que ça sortait le désormais disque de platine A Beautiful Lie.

It’s taken six years to see Thirty Seconds to Mars back on stage in Paris. And the least we can say is that fans were out in force for this new Leto brothers’ mass.
The band didn’t do things halfway, with a minimalist stage surrounded by LEDs and screens. It’s on the latter that the countdown to the start of hostilities appears, as the band make their entrance in the middle of the room, allowing their fans to get up close and personal. The first notes of Up in the Air echo through the imposing arena, sublimated by a shower of pink confetti. The audience immediately climbs aboard the UFO 30STM, piloted by Jared Leto who, despite being ill that evening, is determined to deliver a showman’s performance of the highest order !
The songs followed one another and never resembled one another, the stage was decked out in a multitude of colors, the neon lights were illuminated and fire sprang up a few meters from the gold pit. In fact, the setlist has been designed to offer something for everyone. Although the band are here to present their latest album, It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day, the older hits are not left out. Kings and Queens, Hurricane and Rescue Me are on offer for nostalgic fans. And it’s on the latter that Jared Leto takes the opportunity to invite fans to join him on stage. The Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman is no stranger to getting close to his audience. He won’t hesitate to ask fans far back in the stands to come and fill the many VIP seats that remained unoccupied, or to risk numerous interactions in the language of Molière. In fact, it was during one of these that he announced that he had a “very, very big” announcement for the French public. The band plans to return to Paris next year for an exceptional concert dedicated to their album A Beautiful Lie !
After an encore during which the musicians kept us waiting for long minutes, the Accor Arena communed one last time on the last three songs of the setlist, and not the least. Stuck, The Kill (Bury Me) and Closer to the Edge follow on from each other, carried along by a boiling-hot crowd singing in unison with the band. As tradition would have it, the last song is an opportunity for Jared to share one last moment of closeness with his audience, bringing numerous fans on stage and not hesitating to dance with them and hug them.
Once again, Thirty Seconds to Mars proved their ability to reinvent themselves with ever more accomplished shows. We only regret the presence of a soundtrack that sometimes (often) overpowers the singer’s voice. The date is set for next year, with the promise of a trip back in time 20 years to 2005, when the not-so-popular band released the now platinum-selling A Beautiful Lie.
