[ENGLISH BELOW] Le groupe de Power Metal allemand Hammer King revient avec un sixième album studio intitulé König Und Kaiser, disponible à partir du 22 mars 2024 et produit par le label Napalm Records.
Et l’ouverture de bal se fait avec Hailed By The Hammer qui nous propose une introduction pêchue ainsi qu’une rythmique vocale intéressante et qui reste en tête. Un bon départ pour cet album s’il reste sur cette voie. Et c’est ce qu’il se passe avec The Devil Will I Do. Un titre dans la même lignée que le précédent avec une meilleure harmonie vocale et instrumentale.
C’est au tour de König Und Kaiser, titre éponyme qui montre que l’on peux basculer un peu dans l’ombre (pas le côté obscur c’est trop dark pour l’instant) avec des riffs plus heavy sans pour autant prendre de grands risques.
Avec Future King, c’est un retour au début qui est amené avec un refrain qui manque clairement de tout et me donne même pas envie de continuer… Ce qui sauve ce morceau, le solo !
Kingdom Of Hammers And Kings remonte la pente avec des chœurs plus qu’intéressants qui montre enfin l’effet que je recherche depuis le début, à savoir l’aspect Power et Epique. Et à ma grande surprise l’effet semble se répéter avec Divided We Shall Fall.
War Hammer annonce que la fin des temps arrive avec pour introduction une sirène d’alerte, tout ça pour faire démarrer la guitare au quart de tour. Mais cet effet n’est que de courte durée car tout retombe comme un soufflé.
Kings Of Arabia arrive comme si de rien été en exploitant légèrement des sonorité arabes en espérant se démarquer du reste mais c’est un échec total. Rien ne va sur ce titre plus qu’à côté de la plaque.
Allons nous consoler avec I Want Chaos, une chanson à la durée plus que supportable et au refrain qui nous donne envie de crier et foutre le bordel partout où nous nous trouvons.
Et le calvaire prends fin avec Gates Of Atlantia qui aurait pour sujet la cité perdue d’Atlantis (Je vous vois les fans de la franchise Stargate), mais cela n’a rien à voir avec la série ou même les précédents sujets explorés dans cet opus. Une fin d’album beaucoup trop longue et encore plus décevante.
Hammer King nous propose un album plus que navrant avec un réel manque de diversité dans les morceaux, malgré le fait qu’il y est que 10 titres, il laisse une impression de longueur sans fin et de répétitions intenses. A voir sur scène si cet album peut être sauvé mais j’en doute fort.

And the ball opens with Hailed By The Hammer, featuring a punchy introduction and an interesting vocal rhythm that sticks in the head. A good start for this album if it stays on this track. And so it is with The Devil Will I Do. A track in the same vein as the previous one, with better vocal and instrumental harmony.
Then it’s König Und Kaiser‘s turn, the eponymous track showing that you can go a little dark (not the dark side, that’s too dark for now) with heavier riffs without taking any great risks.
Future King takes us back to the beginning, with a chorus that’s clearly lacking in everything and doesn’t even make me want to go on… What saves this track is the solo!
Kingdom Of Hammers And Kings picks up where it left off, with a more than interesting chorus that finally shows the effect I’ve been looking for all along, namely the Power and Epic aspect. And to my surprise, the effect seems to be repeated with Divided We Shall Fall.
War Hammer announces that the end of time is coming, with a warning siren as introduction, all to get the guitar going. But the effect is short-lived, as the whole thing blows over like a soufflé.
Kings Of Arabia arrives as if nothing had happened, making light use of Arab sounds in the hope of standing out from the rest, but it’s a total failure. Nothing goes right on this track.
Let’s console ourselves with I Want Chaos, a song of more than bearable length and a chorus that makes us want to scream and make a mess wherever we find ourselves.
And the ordeal comes to an end with Gates Of Atlantia, whose subject is the lost city of Atlantis (I can see you Stargate fans), but it has nothing to do with the series or even the previous subjects explored in this opus. A very long and even more disappointing end to the album.
Hammer King‘s album is more than disappointing, with a real lack of diversity in the tracks, and despite the fact that there are only 10 titles, it leaves an impression of endless length and intense repetition. It remains to be seen whether this album can be saved live, but I doubt it.
