[ENGLISH BELOW] GOST a sorti son nouvel album intitulé Prophecy, il y’a quelques jours via Metal Blade Records, le premier sur ce label.
L’album s’ouvre avec le son introductif Judgement assez sinistre qui nous plonge dans une ambiance horrifique chère à James Lollar (Gost) et qui pourrait très bien se retrouver dans un film de genre avant le morceau titre Prophecy purement Darkwave sur lequel on retrouve des éléments sonores bibliques tels que des sons de cloches d’églises mais aussi des choeurs presque angéliques. Si vous cherchez des morceaux plus « Metal », Death In Bloom va se rapprocher de ce genre musical avec ses cris complètement possédés qui feraient presque penser à un morceau de Psyclon Nine. Obituary est le genre de morceau qui devrait enflammer une piste de danse sans problème enfin tout du moins la première partie du titre car la deuxième partie est bien plus sombre et on voit plus ce genre de morceau joué dans des soirées Goth au final.
Decadent Decay pourrait aisément se retrouver sur un album de Black Metal avec son intro hurlante même si le côté Electro plus dansant/goth revient vite au galop accompagné par la voix de James. Le scream finit quand même par revenir à la fin du titre avant Widow Song qui semble tout droit sortie des 80’s avec ses parties de Xylophone, un petit côté Sisters Of Mercy peut-être pour certains. L’enchaînement de Golgotha à Digital Death est hyper chaotique et sera jugé sûrement inaudible par certains même si au final pour dépeindre la fin de l’humanité, ce choix semble cohérent. Le côté Black Metal finit par revenir sur Through The Water même si il est peu prononcé sur ce nouvel opus, ce genre musical reste une des principales influences de Gost. C’est Leviathan qui va clore ce nouvel album avec son « break » assez surprenant dès le début du morceau qui pourrait laisser penser que le morceau va exploser d’un seul coup alors qu’il n’en est rien.
Si vous aimez la Synthwave à la Perturbator mais avec un côté bien plus sombre, ce nouvel album de Gost est fait pour vous! Immergé dans un univers totalement horrifique, le compositeur/auteur/interprète ne fait pas les choses à moitié et Prophecy est probablement à ce jour le meilleur opus qu’il ai pu nous proposer!

[ENGLISH VERSION] GOST released his new record, Prophecy, a few days ago via Metal Blade Records, his first on this label.
The album opens with the rather sinister intro Judgement, which plunges us into a horrific atmosphere dear to James Lollar (Gost) and which could very well be found in a genre film, before the purely Darkwave title track Prophecy, on which we find biblical sound elements such as church bell sounds but also almost angelic choirs. If you’re looking for more « Metal » tracks, Death In Bloom comes close, with its completely possessed screams almost reminiscent of a Psyclon Nine track. Obituary is the kind of track that should easily set a dancefloor alight – at least the first half of the track, as the second half is much darker and more likely to be played at Goth parties.
Decadent Decay could easily be found on a Black Metal album, with its screaming intro, even if the more danceable Electro/Goth side soon comes back into play, accompanied by James‘ vocals. The screaming returns at the end of the track before Widow Song, which sounds straight out of the 80s with its xylophone parts, perhaps a little Sisters Of Mercy for some. The sequence from Golgotha to Digital Death is hyper-chaotic and will surely be judged inaudible by some, even if in the end, to depict the end of humanity, this choice seems coherent. The Black Metal side of things eventually returns on Through The Water, even if it is less pronounced on this new record, as this musical genre remains one of Gost‘s main influences. Leviathan brings the record to a close, with its surprising « break » at the very beginning of the track, which might lead you to believe that the song is going to explode all at once, but in fact it doesn’t. If you like Synthwave at its best, you’ll love it.
If you like Perturbator-style synthwave, but with a much darker edge, this new Gost album is for you! Immersed in a totally horrific universe, the composer/songwriter/performer doesn’t do things by halves, and Prophecy is probably his best record to date!
