1/ Bonjour, Baest est un groupe considéré comme récent, peux-tu nous résumer ton parcours ? Et d’où vient le nom du groupe?
Nous nous sommes formés en 2015 et avons décidé d’être très sérieux dans le projet dès le premier jour.
Nous avons juste commencé à écrire et à répéter de manière intensive afin de pouvoir lancer notre carrière et nos ambitions étaient et sont toujours aussi élevées que le ciel. Nous avons eu la chance d’être bookés pour des concerts déjà en 2016 et après avoir sorti notre troisième album en quatre ans, il est facile de dire que nous n’avons pas regardé en arrière depuis.
2/ En trois mots, comment décrirais-tu votre musique ?
Intransigeante, brutale et joyeuse (du moins, c’est ce que nous ressentons lorsque nous la jouons).
3/ Votre nouvel album Necro-Sapiens va sortir dans quelques jours, dans quel état d’esprit êtes-vous pour cette sortie ?
Nous sommes totalement excités par cette sortie. Nous pouvons vraiment sentir comment notre fanbase grandit en ce moment, et cette sortie est aussi une énorme lumière pour nous dans la situation mondiale actuelle. L’album est notre meilleur effort jusqu’à présent, et la réponse aux singles sortis a été incroyable. Les gens sont prêts pour Necro Sapiens !
4/Comment s’est déroulé le travail de composition et d’enregistrement ? Et quels sont les thèmes abordés dans cet album ?
Nous avons commencé à écrire l’album en décembre (2020) et comme tous nos plans pour le reste de l’année ont été lentement annulés, nous avons juste mis toute notre énergie dans l’écriture et la préparation de l’enregistrement. Nous sommes entrés en studio en octobre et nous avons passé une semaine à l’enregistrer. C’était la première fois dans notre carrière que nous avions écrit tout l’album avant d’entrer en studio, donc c’était une très bonne expérience pour nous, et nous avons juste enregistré et nous sommes amusés au lieu de devoir trouver des choses sur place et d’être stressés. Nous avons enregistré le tout en direct pour donner à l’auditeur l’expérience complète de Baest live – ce qui est vraiment ce que nous sommes en fait ! Sur le plan lyrique, nous parlons d’un monde post-apocalyptique dont les habitants sont des espèces d’esclaves, les « Necro Sapiens ». Ils sont massacrés et torturés pour le plaisir par la classe supérieure qui est immortelle. Ils sont dirigés par le tsar tout-puissant qui vit dans un parlement, où vous louez des mercenaires pour torturer vos esclaves. Il s’inspire de 1984 de George Orwell. Les thèmes sont la cupidité capitaliste, la dystopie, la misère.
5/ Vous avez choisi 4 titres pour teaser cet album à votre public, pourquoi les avoir choisis en particulier et avez-vous un titre préféré parmi ces 4 ?
Nous avions l’impression que nous aurions pu choisir n’importe laquelle des neuf chansons de l’album pour les singles. Nous avons un fort sentiment pour toutes les chansons, et nous sommes vraiment fiers de ce que nous avons réalisé.
6/ Comment vois-tu l’évolution du groupe depuis ses débuts ?
C’est une ascension constante depuis le début, et nous avons vraiment investi tout notre temps dans ce groupe, seulement retenu par la situation mondiale actuelle. Nous pouvons voir que notre dur labeur commence à payer, donc rien ne va vraiment nous empêcher de continuer !
7/Quels sont vos projets pour l’année 2021 ?
La plupart de nos tournées prévues sont en train d’être annulées, et nous pouvons voir que l’activité live ne sera probablement pas de retour avant l’automne ou l’hiver… Donc nous avons une tournée danoise prévue pour le moment. Nous n’irons probablement pas en Europe avant l’année prochaine. Mais nous ferons certainement une tournée en 2022 si les conditions le permettent.
8/Quels artistes ou groupes écoutez-vous en ce moment ?
En ce moment, nous écoutons Carcass, Opeth, Mastodon, Entombed et l’album live d’Alison Krauss de 2003 – qui est un succès total dans notre petite communauté.
9/Avez-vous un message pour vos fans français ?
Salut les gars ! Les fois où nous avons tourné dans votre pays font partie de nos meilleurs souvenirs. Les salles, les foules, les visites, la restauration ( !) et ainsi de suite. Vous avez montré beaucoup d’amour pour nous et nous l’apprécions vraiment ! Nous aimons et nous espérons que vous ferez tourner notre nouveau disque. Nous espérons que nous vous verrons tous bientôt.

1/ Hello, Baest is a band considered as recent, could you summarize us your career ? And where does the name of the band come from ?
We formed in 2015 and decided to be very serious about the project from day one.
We just started writing and rehearsing intensively so we could kick start our career and our ambitions were and still are high as the sky. We were fortunate enough to get booked for shows already in 2016 and after releasing our third album in four years it’s easy to say that we haven’t looked back since.
2/ In three words, how would you describe your music ?
Uncompromising, brutal and joyful (at least that’s how we feel when we perform it)
3/Your new album Necro-Sapiens will be released in a few days, in which state of mind are you in for this release ?
We are totally excited about this release. We can really feel how our fanbase is growing at the moment, and this release is also a huge light for us in the current world-situation. The album is our best effort so far, and the response to the singles released has been amazing. The people are ready for Necro Sapiens!
4/How did the composition and recording work go ? And what are the themes addressed in this album ?
We started writing the album back in december (2020) and as all of our plans for the remainder of the year slowly got cancelled, we just put all our energy into writing and being ready to record. We hit the studio in October and we spent a week recording it. This was the first time in our career that we had the whole album written before we entered the studio, so it was a really really good experience for us, and we just recorded and had fun instead of having to come up with things on the spot and being stressed. We recorded the whole thing live to give the listener the full Baest live experience – which is really what we are all about actually! Lyrically we are dealing with a post-apocalyptic world where this slave species “Necro Sapiens” are the inhabitants. They are slaughtered and tortured for fun by the upper-class who are immortal. They are ruled by the almighty Czar who lives in a parlament, where you rent mercenaries for torturing your slaves. It takes some inspiration from George Orwell’s 1984. Themes are capitalistic greed, dystopia, misery.
5/You have chosen 4 tracks to teaser this album to your public, why did you choose those in particular and do you have a favorite track among those 4 ?
We felt like we could have chosen any of the nine songs on the album for singles. We have a strong feeling about all of the songs, and we are really proud of what we achieved.
6/How do you see the evolution of the band since its beginnings ?
It has been a steady climb since the beginning, and we have really invested all of our time in this band, only being held back by the current world-situation. We can see that our hard work begins to pay off, so nothing is really going to stop us from continuing!
7/What are your projects for the year 2021 ?
Most of our planned tours are slowing getting cancelled, and we can see that live-activity is probably not going to be back until fall or winter… So we have a danish tour planned there at the moment. We are probably not hitting Europe until next year. But we will definately be touring most of 2022 if the conditions allow it.
8/Which artists or bands are you listening to at the moment ?
Currently we are listening to Carcass, Opeth, Mastodon, Entombed and the Alison Krauss’ live album from 2003 – that is a total hit in our small community.
9/Do you have a message to your French fans ?
Hey guys! The times we have toured in your country have been some of our greatest memories. From the venues, the crowds, the sightseeings, the catering (!) and so on. You have shown a lot of love for us and we are really appreciating it! We love and we hope that you will give our new record a spin. Hopefully we will see you all sometime soon.
