[ENGLISH BELOW] Après Lifestyles Of The Sick And Dangerous sorti en 2022, les Finlandais de Blind Channel sont de retour avec leur cinquième album intitulé Exit Emotions qui sera disponible ce vendredi 1er mars via Century Media Records.
C’est WHERE’S THE EXIT qui va ouvrir ce nouvel opus et inutile de dire que le groupe a mis la barre très haute dès le début, les screams sont agressifs tout comme la rythmique et les riffs. Même si on retrouve un côté très Pop dans le refrain et le deuxième couplet, c’est littéralement un premier banger très Nu Metal que nous délivre le groupe. Suivi de près par le single DEADZONE qui se transforme en véritable hymne avec ce refrain qui sera très bien repris par la fan-base avec des couplets Rap qui se marient parfaitement à l’ensemble, le morceau tape juste encore une fois. Les cris des loups en ouverture de WOLVES IN CALIFORNIA vont venir encore une fois cueillir les fans, le refrain est encore une fois ce qui va faire de ce morceau une franche réussite et ne parlons pas du Breakdown qui vous fera exploser le cerveau.
XOXO est le premier featuring de ce nouvel opus et c’est avec From Ashes To New. A la première écoute, ce n’est pas un morceau qui n’avait vraiment pas marqué mais en le réécoutant plusieurs fois c’est littéralement quelque chose de très bon, on retrouve bien la voix de Matt qui s’accorde très bien avec celles de Joel et Niko. Keeping It Surreal est probablement LE meilleur morceau sur Exit Emotions, un titre plus Pop mais qui saura retourner les tripes des auditeurs avec ses paroles qui évoque les luttes de la vie (« If I die in a dream, would you wake me up? »), le tout en essayant quand même de toujours garder espoir et de ressentir les émotions malgré la douleur. DIE ANOTHER DAY avec la chanteuse Rory est une belle ballade qui joue parfaitement sur les émotions où la dualité entre les voix masculines et celle de la chanteuse sont juste incroyables. Le morceau évoque la santé mentale un thème cher à la chanteuse (qu’on peut souvent retrouver dans ses morceaux) et le fait de chercher quelque chose ou quelqu’un à qui se raccrocher quand tout va mal.
PHOBIA revient sur quelque chose de plus rythmé avant le single HAPPY DOOMSDAY avec une ambiance qui fera replonger les plus nostalgiques dans l’Era Violent Pop. NOT YOUR BRO change de rythmique à plusieurs reprises mais reste un morceau assez cohérent quoique un peu chaotique dans sa construction (et ce passage archi lourd à 02:10) avant de laisser place à FLATLINE le dernier hymne sur ce nouvel album. Avec des sonorités un peu plus Electro, tout en gardant un côté Rock très assumé! C’est ONE LAST TIME…AGAIN qui va conclure cet album et c’est un ultime banger que le groupe va nous livrer ici même si les couplets restent relativement « calmes », Blind Channel mettent le paquet une dernière fois sur le refrain pour donner à Exit Emotions, la fin qu’il mérite.
Blind Channel sont de retour, prêts à casser la baraque! A l’époque, les chaînes TV Françaises disaient « Linkin Park…On vous aura prévenus » en sous-entendant que c’était dingue à l’époque de Hybrid Theory, Blind Channel mériterait le même avertissement tant sont littéralement les dignes successeurs des américains et ce nouvel album en est la preuve.

[ENGLISH VERSION] Following on from Lifestyles Of The Sick And Dangerous, released in 2022, Blind Channel are back with their fifth album, Exit Emotions, due out this Friday via Century Media Records.
WHERE’S THE EXIT is the opener, and needless to say, the band have set the bar very high from the outset: the screams are aggressive, as are the rhythm and riffs. Even if the chorus and second verse have a very pop feel to them, it’s literally a very Nu Metal first banger from the band. Closely followed by the single DEADZONE, which turns into a veritable anthem with a chorus that’s very well received by the fanbase, and Rap verses that blend perfectly with the rest, the track hits the spot once again. The cries of the wolves at the opening of WOLVES IN CALIFORNIA will once again win over the fans, the chorus is once again what makes this track such a success, and let’s not even mention the brain-bursting Breakdown.
XOXO is the first featuring on this new opus, and it’s with From Ashes To New. On first listen, it’s not a track that didn’t really stand out, but if you listen to it several times, it’s literally something very good, with Matt‘s voice working well with those of Joel and Niko. Keeping It Surreal is probably THE best track on Exit Emotions, more of a pop track but one that will turn listeners’ stomachs with its lyrics that evoke the struggles of life (« If I die in a dream, would you wake me up? »), all the while still trying to keep hope alive and feel the emotions despite the pain. DIE ANOTHER DAY with singer Rory is a beautiful ballad that plays perfectly on the emotions, where the duality between the male voices and that of the singer are just incredible. The track evokes mental health, a theme dear to the singer’s heart (and one that can often be found in her songs), and the search for something or someone to hold on to when everything goes wrong.
PHOBIA returns to something more rhythmic before the single HAPPY DOOMSDAY, with an ambience that will take the most nostalgic back to the Violent Pop Era. NOT YOUR BRO changes rhythm a few times but remains a fairly coherent track, albeit a little chaotic in its construction (and that super-heavy passage at 02:10) before giving way to FLATLINE, the final anthem on this new album. With a slightly more Electro sound, but still with a rock edge! ONE LAST TIME…AGAIN brings the album to a close and it’s a final banger that the band deliver here, even if the verses remain relatively « calm », Blind Channel pull out all the stops one last time on the chorus to give Exit Emotions the ending it deserves.
Blind Channel are back, ready to rock! At the time, French TV channels were saying « Linkin Park…You’ve been warned », implying that it was crazy at the time of Hybrid Theory. Blind Channel deserve the same warning, as they are literally the worthy successors of the Americans, and this new album is the proof.
