Gore. : …Then You Cannot Love Me [FR/EN]

[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Depuis le 9 octobre dernier, le deuxième EP du groupe texan Gore. intitulé …Then You Cannot Love Me est disponible via Spinefarm Records. If You Do Not Fear Me… sorti l’année dernière.

[ENGLISH VERSION] Since October 9, the Texas-based band Gore.‘s second EP, titled …Then You Cannot Love Me, has been available via Spinefarm Records. This new EP is the second part of a concept series conceived by the band, which began with the release of If You Do Not Fear Me… last year. While the first EP was intended to be darker, this second one is meant to be “brighter” and focused on acceptance.

The EP opens with “What You Paid For”; the intro features incisive guitar riffs and a very catchy instrumental, but ultimately it’s Haley’s clean vocals that grab us—full of sensitivity and fragility—before a more powerful and intense chorus. The contrast is perfectly executed and well-balanced, but this clearly isn’t the track that will make us take a second listen. “Lead Me To The Slaughter” follows; the vocals are already more interesting and more powerful than in the previous track, as is the song as a whole—it features screaming and an instrumental that leaves you wanting more! Gore. addresses indoctrination and the modern idols we sometimes worship to the point of losing ourselves in this “cult.” “Bones In The Garden” started off well but ultimately runs out of steam, which is a real shame given the song’s potential; however, “Crucified” showcases a new side of the band—more pop-oriented, more accessible—with vocals that never lose their power and an incredibly catchy chorus. The electronic touches that seemed uninteresting on the previous track here manage to enhance the whole piece.

“Walk On Water” returns to what we loved so much on the previous EP, while “Hallowed Ground” explores something more vulnerable, touching, and gentle—particularly in the verses, where everything seems to slow down without losing any of its brilliance. The track “Alone” brings this new chapter in Gore’s discography to a close. This finale follows in the footsteps of the previous one, with vocals that are almost gospel-inspired and a softness that feels almost unreal.

This new EP from Gore. could have been a resounding success if all the tracks had managed to capture our interest; even though some stand out, they fail to give us that “must-have” feeling that “Babylon” and others did on the previous EP! Gore. remains a band to watch, and we’ll continue to listen closely to their releases.
