Left To Suffer : Unwelcome Guest [FR/EN]

I need to know, are you scared yet ? This will be the last thing you see » (« J’ai besoin de savoir, n’es-tu pas encore terrifié ?

Left To Suffer is a deathcore band from Atlanta, with a musicality more than extreme; they unveil, on October 9, their new album Unwelcome Guest, via Hopeless Records. This is perhaps the peak of violence and heaviness that the band can pour into its music.

This 11-track project plunges us into an atmosphere rocked by the supersaturation of guitars, bass and bass with a lot of grain, all wrapped up in the impressive, so technical, voice of frontman Taylor Barber. The album makes us lose our heads so much the breaks are numerous, so much they would make us tear off our head live, so much they push us to wince, so much they are more aggressive than each other. What is certain is that it’s better not to broadcast this album on Sunday morning, at full volume, at the risk of getting complaints from the neighbors.

The Americans offer themselves a collaboration with the singer Alan GRNJA from the Dutch group DISTANT, a collaboration more than inflamed in view of the masterful ending (approaching a herd of pigs, it would seem) and tinged with demonstrations and vocal techniques of saturated singing, all more impressive than the others, all accompanied by an unmatched heavy station wagon and bass defying the established heights of sound.

On the other hand, the music is in perfect correlation with the themes addressed: revenge, hatred, violence that breaks out, etc… The music video for the eponymous single Unwelcome Guest is a perfect demonstration of this. Indeed, in this one, we follow a man ready to do anything to get even with the people who attacked him earlier, images that perfectly echo what we can hear: « I need to know, are you scared yet? This will be the last thing you see”. A surge of aggressiveness and animosity ensues, both musical and visual, which plunges us into a palpable and constant fury.

Towards the end of the album, things seem to calm down and there are a bit more melodic parts (I said a little, don’t expect an opera by Mozart either). This is the case for Bleeding Out, the most affordable title of the quartet. By being a bit more modern metal/metalcore, it stands out from the rest of the album and proves that the band can have several strings to its bow by offering a very melodic solo, clean-voiced backs and even guitars a little less saturated and more « mainstream » (again, we agree on the term).

Left To Suffer is one of the most violent and brutal bands of this new generation of modern metal. A music that could give credit to all the detractors of metal, as their sound corresponds to the phrase: « it’s not music, but noise »; a phrase which, here, is of course more than a compliment.
