Vendredi 6 juin – Une ouverture entre flammes, légendes et riffs intemporels
La deuxième édition du Heavy Week-End à Nancy a débuté sur les chapeaux de roue ce vendredi 6 juin, avec une programmation qui a mis la barre très haut d’entrée de jeu.
VANDENBERG – L’élégance des années dorées
C’est la légende néerlandaise Adrian Vandenberg et son hommage vibrant à ses années Whitesnake qui ouvre la soirée. Sous les derniers rayons de soleil, “Judgement Day” et “Slip of the Tongue” ont résonné avec une classe folle. Le public, sans doute moins jeune pour une bonne partie, a savouré chaque solo comme une madeleine de Proust hard rock. Vandenberg, tout sourire et visiblement ému, a partagé anecdotes et hommages à l’époque bénie des Monsters of Rock. Une respiration élégante et nostalgique dans une soirée qui montait doucement en tension.
BATTLE BEAST – Le feu sacré du Nord
Les finlandais de Battle Beast prennent le relais pour continuer d’enflammer cette soirée. Noora Louhimo, tout de cuir vêtue, est apparue sur scène telle une Walkyrie moderne. Sa puissance vocale, intacte, a balayé les premiers rangs dès les premières notes de “Straight to the Heart”. Mention spéciale au light show, parfaitement calé sur la rythmique martiale des morceaux. Le public, encore en phase de rodage, s’est vite laissé emporter par les refrains ultra-efficaces de “Eden” ou “King for a Day”. On sent un groupe en pleine maîtrise de ses moyens, prêt à marquer les esprits à la sortie de leur futur album.
SAXON – La leçon de légende
20h. Le rideau tombe, et les vétérans de SAXON montent sur scène dans une explosion d’applaudissements. Biff Byford, 73 ans, déborde de prestance. Quelle leçon ! Les tubes s’enchaînent : “Motorcycle Man”, “747 (Strangers in the Night)”, “Heavy Metal Thunder”… et bien sûr “Princess of the Night” en final. Les pogos s’organisent en douceur, la ferveur monte, et le groupe prouve, une fois encore, que le metal classique n’a pas pris une ride. Le jeu de scène est sobre mais efficace. On joue ici sur la force brute de riffs historiques. Les jeunes dans la fosse chantent avec les vétérans. L’histoire vit.
POWERWOLF – L’apothéose flamboyante
Enfin, à 22h, la messe peut commencer. POWERWOLF débarque sur scène dans une explosion de flammes et de feu sacré. Dès “Fire and Forgive”, le ton est donné : le spectacle sera total. Pyrotechnie démentielle, décors gothiques monumentaux, chorégraphies rituelles et chants liturgiques à reprendre en chœur. Attila Dorn est un maître de cérémonie exceptionnel, et les 10 000 âmes présentes répondent à chaque incantation. “Amen & Attack”, “Demons Are a Girl’s Best Friend” et le monumental “We Drink Your Blood” transforment le le zenith en cathédrale heavy. Le groupe livre une performance millimétrée mais jamais froide, au contraire : c’est habité, théâtral, exalté. Le final, “Resurrection by Erection”, se termine dans un feu d’artifice qui aurait pu clore le festival. Mais ce n’est que le début…
Dimanche 8 juin – Le chaos organisé d’une messe moderne
Après avoir manqué le samedi avec les têtes d’affiche Europe et Dream Theater, nous revenons le dimanche avec un programme taillé pour les amateurs de sensations fortes et d’adrénaline urbaine. L’ambiance dominicale n’avait rien de paresseux : dès l’ouverture du site, le public arborait pancartes, maquillages, et même quelques masques bien connus…
NOTHING MORE – Une claque émotionnelle et visuelle
Ce sont les Américains de NOTHING MORE ont retourné le festival en ouverture ! Avec Jonny Hawkins au sommet de sa forme, tant vocalement que physiquement, le groupe a livré une prestation intense et viscérale. Leur mélange d’alt metal, d’électro, de rock progressif et de performances scéniques (la fameuse machine à effets construite en live) a captivé les festivaliers. “Go to War” a retourné la fosse, tandis que “Jenny” a ému aux larmes. Prestation rare et précieuse, servie par une scénographie épurée mais percutante. Une seule date en France, et quel moment !
RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR – Le Japon rencontre Pantera
C’est le crew de banlieue parisienne qui prend la suite avec une rage sincère. Casquettes vissées sur les crânes et manga en toile de fond, le set de RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR est une véritable décharge de crossover contrôlé. “Here Comes the Boom”, “The Legacy of Shi”, et les nouveaux titres du prochain album s’enchaînent dans un chaos ultra-efficace. Le pit devient un champ de bataille animé, mais toujours dans une belle énergie collective. On notera l’excellente qualité sonore malgré la densité du show : un mix d’une propreté rare pour ce type de crossover.
SLIPKNOT – La catharsis ultime
22h00. Un cri strident déchire l’air. Les écrans diffusent des images cryptiques. Et puis l’enfer s’abat. SLIPKNOT débarque sur scène comme une horde enragée. “People=Shit”, “Wait and Bleed”, “Unsainted” : l’enchaînement est brutal. Le son est colossal, les lights hypnotiques, les percussionnistes en transe. Corey Taylor, charismatique et intense, se donne à fond, alternant hurlements, chants clairs et discours bienveillants envers les fans français. Le pit est devenu un vortex. On se regarde, on se soutient, on vit un moment de communion extrême. “Duality” est un tsunami. “Spit It Out” fait trembler toute la fosse avant l’explosion finale. Et “Surfacing” et “Scissors“ clôture la soirée dans un ouragan sonore et émotionnel.
Un festival taillé dans le métal… et l’excellence
Le Heavy Week-End 2025 confirme haut la main sa montée en puissance. Une programmation éclectique mais cohérente, une organisation millimétrée, un son maitrisé sur les deux jours, des stands bien fournis, et une ambiance saine malgré l’intensité des concerts.
Un immense merci à l’équipe du Heavy Week-End pour son accueil irréprochable, sa bienveillance envers les médias comme le public, et pour avoir permis à la Lorraine de vibrer au rythme du metal international dans des conditions exemplaires. On repart les oreilles bourdonnantes, le cœur en fusion et une seule envie : revenir encore plus fort en 2026.

Friday, June 6 – An opening between flames, legends and timeless riffs
The second edition of the Heavy Week-End in Nancy kicked off on Friday, June 6th, with a program that set the bar very high from the start.
VANDENBERG – The elegance of golden years
It is the Dutch legend Adrian Vandenberg and his vibrant tribute to his Whitesnake years that opens the evening. Under the last rays of sun, ‘Judgement Day’ and ‘Slip of the Tongue’ resonated with a crazy class. The audience, undoubtedly less young for a good part, savored each solo like a madeleine of Proust hard rock. Vandenberg, all smiles and visibly moved, shared anecdotes and tributes to the blessed era of Monsters of Rock. An elegant and nostalgic breath in an evening that slowly rose into tension.
BATTLE BEAST – The Sacred Fire of the North
The Finnish from Battle Beast are taking over to continue to ignite this evening. Leah Louhimo, all dressed in leather, appeared on stage like a modern Valkyrie. Its vocal power, intact, swept away the first rows from the very first notes of ‘Straight to the Heart’. Special mention to the light show, perfectly tuned on the martial rhythm of the tracks. The audience, still in the break-in phase, quickly let themselves be carried away by the ultra-effective chords of ‘Eden’ or ‘King for a Day’. We feel a group in full control of its means, ready to make an impression at the release of their future album.
SAXON – The Lesson of Legend
20h. The curtain falls, and the veterans of SAXON take the stage in an explosion of applause. Biff Byford, 73 years old, brims with presence. What a lesson! The hits follow one another: “Motorcycle Man”, “747 (Strangers in the Night)”, “Heavy Metal Thunder”… and of course “Princess of the Night” in the final. The pogos organize themselves smoothly, the fervor rises, and the group proves, once again, that classical metal has not aged. The stage performance is sober but effective. We play here on the raw strength of historical riffs. The young people in the pit sing with the veterans. The story lives.
POWERWOLF – The flamboyant apotheosis
Finally, at 10pm, the mass can start. POWERWOLF arrives on stage in an explosion of flames and sacred fire. From ‘Fire and Forgive’, the tone is set: the show will be total. Insane pyrotechnics, monumental Gothic decorations, ritual choreographies and liturgical songs to be repeated in chorus. Attila Dorn is an exceptional master of ceremonies, and the 10,000 souls present respond to each incantation. “Amen & Attack”, “Demons Are a Girl’s Best Friend” and the monumental “We Drink Your Blood” turn the zenith into a heavy cathedral. The group delivers a millimetred performance but never cold, on the contrary: it is inhabited, theatrical, exalted. The finale, « Resurrection by Erection, » ends in a fireworks display that could have closed the festival. But it’s only the beginning…
Sunday, June 8 – The organized chaos of a modern mass
After missing Saturday with the headliners Europe and Dream Theater, we return on Sunday with a program designed for thrill seekers and urban adrenaline. The Sunday atmosphere was nothing lazy: from the opening of the site, the public displayed signs, makeup, and even some well-known masks…
NOTHING MORE – An emotional and visual slap
These are the Americans from NOTHING MORE who returned the festival as an opening! With Jonny Hawkins at the peak of his form, both vocally and physically, the band delivered an intense and visceral performance. Their mix of alt metal, electro, progressive rock and stage performances (the famous live-built effects machine) captivated festival-goers. “Go to War” turned the pit, while ‘Jenny’ moved to tears. Rare and precious performance, served by a refined but impactful scenography. Only one date in France, and what a time!
RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR – Japan meets Pantera
It is the crew from the Parisian suburbs that takes over with sincere rage. Caps screwed on the skulls and manga in the background, the set of RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR is a real controlled crossover release. “Here Comes the Boom”, “The Legacy of Shi”, and the new tracks from the next album are linked in an ultra-efficient chaos. The pit becomes a lively battlefield, but always in a beautiful collective energy. Note the excellent sound quality despite the density of the show: a mix of rare cleanliness for this type of crossover.
SLIPKNOT – The ultimate catharsis
10:00 PM. A shrill scream tears through the air. The screens broadcast cryptic images. And then hell falls. SLIPKNOT arrives on stage like a raging horde. “People=Shit”, “Wait and Bleed”, “Unsainted” : the sequence is brutal. The sound is colossal, the hypnotic lights, the percussionists in a trance. Corey Taylor, charismatic and intense, gives himself completely, alternating howls, clear songs and benevolent speeches towards the French fans. The pit has become a vortex. We look at each other, we support each other, we experience a moment of extreme communion. “Duality” is a tsunami. “Spit It Out” makes the whole pit shake before the final explosion. And « Surfacing » and « Scissors » ends the evening in a sonic and emotional hurricane.
A festival crafted in metal… and excellence
The Heavy Weekend 2025 confirms with flying colors its rise in power. An eclectic but coherent program, a precise organization, a sound mastered over the two days, well-stocked stands, and a healthy atmosphere despite the intensity of the concerts.
A huge thank you to the Heavy Weekend team for their irreproachable welcome, their kindness towards the media as well as the public, and for allowing Lorraine to vibrate to the rhythm of international metal in exemplary conditions. We leave with ringing ears, a melting heart and only one desire: to come back even stronger in 2026.
