Le groupe de rock allemand Blacktoothed nous propose une belle façon de commencer l’année avec la sortie de leur album Headway. Ce dernier sera disponible via Arising Empire le 24 janvier.
L’album débute avec Get Me Down qui est très dynamique et qui continue de monter et de s’imposer plus. C’est avec l’arrivée du chant principal qui vient apporter un certain ralentissement et une douceur. J’apprécie le mélange des différents chants, notamment celui féminin qui ressort très bien et qui apporte une petite touche en plus. On se prend rapidement au jeu et on est emporté par l’univers du groupe. Les instruments semblent en vouloir toujours plus et le chant nous entre vite en tête. La dernière minute nous propulse encore plus en avant et permet de relancer le titre. Antidote à une introduction simple mais entraînante. Le chant vient se poser dessus rapidement suivi du chant féminin, donnant encore plus de profondeur. Les instruments explosent dès leur arrivée mais se contiennent quand même, gardant une certaine douceur et apportant un côté aérien. J’apprécie beaucoup la façon dont se répondent les deux chants, créant une ambiance chaleureuse. On découvre quelques passages plus énervés, mais l’ensemble reste doux et nous met dans de bonnes conditions pour la suite. True Colours se démarque par son introduction assez dynamique et aux sonorités plus hachées, donnant directement le ton. On y découvre des petites touches électro discrètes mais efficaces. Le groupe fait durer les choses avant d’exploser et de nous emporter dans cette tempête, tant vocale qu’instrumentale. Le jeu de rythme est intéressant et permet de créer de belles profondeurs, notamment avec le chant clair. Le chant féminin, quant à lui, arrive assez tardivement et il va même nous surprendre. L’instrumentalité fait monter les choses et nous conduit à un beau breakdown.

Fight est très dynamique dès les premières secondes et j’aime beaucoup l’énergie qui en découle. On redescend un peu mais quelques piques viennent relancer le titre, notamment avec un refrain très énergique et qui entre en tête rapidement. Le solo de guitare vient ponctuer le tout, créant quelque chose de captivant, notamment sur la fin. Novocaine débute avec une belle énergie et un chant profond, qui fait vibrer nos sentiments. Le chant féminin vient calmer un peu les choses et crée une belle différence. J’aime beaucoup l’ajout de notes électro, qui apportent des touches de peps. Un titre qui nous dévoile différent univers et un refrain marquant comme je les aime. Hell’s Paradise est en featuring avec Bite et Felix Fröhlich. L’ambiance est différente et semble plus sombre mais on retrouve rapidement le calme du chant. Les instruments sont assez en retrait et semblent prêts à tout éclater. J’aime beaucoup le jeu de profondeur qui se crée ici, jouant également sur l’attente. Sur la dernière minute, le chant s’énerve un peu plus, continuant de changer radicalement cette ambiance. On termine sur quelque chose de plus agressif sur tous les plans.
Walls débute sur quelque chose d’atmosphérique, on à un sentiment de flottement mais aussi de grandeur. Le chant vient se poser dessus, par touche, lançant le morceau en douceur. Alors que l’on pense que l’ensemble va exploser, on nous surprend avec l’apparition du chant féminin, apportant une nouvelle couche de douceur. Il faudra attendre le refrain puissant et dynamique où se mêle les deux chants et où les instruments se lancent pleinement. J’aime beaucoup le rythme et la différence de profondeur au niveau des chants. Une belle énergie découle ici, renforcée par le solo de guitare final. C’est sans surprise que l’introduction de Time Bomb débute sur un timer. Les chants suivent et semblent modifier, avec un effet robotique assez perturbant dans un premier temps. Un titre qui nous surprend, notamment par sa construction différente. Le refrain est le point dynamique et fait accélérer les choses. La dernière partie continue de nous surprendre, avec des sonorités diverses et qui semblent partir dans tous les sens, ainsi que le chant plus énervé qui vient conclure le morceau. Carried Away ouvre avec une mélodie et le chant vient s’y poser. Ce début est doux et surtout très beau, on se laisse emporter par les sonorités. Cela est de courte durée car cela va rapidement s’énerver, notamment avec l’arrivée des instruments. On joue avec le rythme et surtout la profondeur, créant un morceau incroyable et qui se conclut avec un solo de guitare puissant.
Après avoir découvert Blacktoothed en live l’été dernier, j’avais hâte de les retrouver en studio et de découvrir leur univers avec ces nouveaux titres. L’ensemble mélange douceur et énergie, notamment sur les refrains qui donnent envie d’être repris à tue-tête.

German rock band Blacktoothed offers us a great way to start the year with the release of their album Headway. The latter will be available via Arising Empire on January 24.
The album begins with Get Me Down which is very dynamic and which continues to rise and establish itself more. It is with the arrival of the main vocals which brings a certain slowing down and softness. I appreciate the mix of different songs, especially the female one which stands out very well and which adds a little extra touch. We quickly get into the game and are carried away by the world of the group. The instruments always seem to want more and the singing quickly enters our heads. The last minute propels us even further and allows us to relaunch the title. Antidote to a simple but catchy introduction. The vocals come on top quickly followed by the female vocals, giving even more depth. The instruments explode as soon as they arrive but are still contained, maintaining a certain softness and providing an airy side. I really appreciate the way the two songs respond to each other, creating a warm atmosphere. We discover some more angry passages, but the whole remains gentle and puts us in good conditions for the rest. True Colors stands out with its fairly dynamic introduction and more choppy sounds, directly setting the tone. We discover small, discreet but effective electro touches. The group keeps things going before exploding and taking us into this storm, both vocally and instrumentally. The rhythm playing is interesting and allows you to create beautiful depths, especially with the clean vocals. Female singing, for its part, arrives quite late and it will even surprise us. Instrumentality escalates things and leads us to a nice breakdown.

Fight is very dynamic from the first seconds and I really like the energy that comes from it. We go back down a little but a few spikes come to revive the title, notably with a very energetic chorus which comes into the lead quickly. The guitar solo punctuates everything, creating something captivating, especially at the end. Novocaine begins with beautiful energy and deep singing, which makes our feelings vibrate. The female vocals calm things down a little and create a nice difference. I really like the addition of electro notes, which bring touches of pep. A title that reveals different universes and a striking chorus that I like. Hell’s Paradise features Bite and Felix Fröhlich. The atmosphere is different and seems darker but we quickly find the calm of the song. The instruments are quite behind and seem ready to explode. I really like the play of depth that is created here, also playing on waiting. In the last minute, the singing gets a little angrier, continuing to radically change this atmosphere. We end with something more aggressive on all levels.
Walls begins with something atmospheric, we have a feeling of floating but also of grandeur. The vocals come to rest on top, by key, launching the piece gently. Just when we think the whole thing is going to explode, we are surprised with the appearance of female vocals, bringing a new layer of sweetness. You will have to wait for the powerful and dynamic chorus where the two songs mix and where the instruments launch fully. I really like the rhythm and the difference in depth in the songs. A beautiful energy flows here, reinforced by the final guitar solo. It’s no surprise that the introduction to Time Bomb begins on a timer. The songs follow and seem to modify, with a rather disturbing robotic effect at first. A title that surprises us, in particular by its different construction. The chorus is the dynamic point and speeds things up. The last part continues to surprise us, with diverse sounds that seem to go in all directions, as well as the more angry singing which concludes the piece. Carried Away opens with a melody and the singing comes in. This beginning is gentle and above all very beautiful, we let ourselves be carried away by the sounds. This is short-lived because it will quickly get annoying, especially with the arrival of the instruments. We play with rhythm and especially depth, creating an incredible piece which ends with a powerful guitar solo.
After discovering Blacktoothed live last summer, I couldn’t wait to find them in the studio and discover their universe with these new tracks. The whole thing mixes sweetness and energy, especially on the choruses which make you want to be repeated at the top of your lungs.
