[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Arch Enemy c’est (dans quelques jours) 13 albums studios pour 30 ans de carrière! Le groupe suédois sort pour cet anniversaire spécial leur nouvel album Blood Dynasty ce 28 mars 2025 via Century Media Records!
Et ce nouvel album s’ouvre avec le single Dream Stealer qui s’ouvre sur des mélodies Gothiques et mystérieuses avant la déferlante de riffs et de blast ! Le groupe va même proposer des influences Heavy avant le refrain et des choeurs sur ce dernier qui renforce la profondeur du chant guttural de Alissa White-Gluz. On ne peut d’ailleurs que saluer sa performance sur ce morceau, son chant est puissant et fédérateur. Quand aux solos de guitares évidemment ils sont également présents et diablement bien exécutés! Blood Dynasty commence plutôt bien mais avec Arch Enemy il faut s’attendre à tout (même au pire?). Illuminate The Path semblait bien partir mais évidemment le chant clair vient tout gâcher…bien dommage car le morceau aurait pu être considéré comme un vrai bon morceau de Death Metal Mélodique où justement le travail sur les mélodies est vraiment bon. March Of The Miscreants met Daniel Erlandsson (batterie) à l’honneur sur une rythmique très soutenue et le chant de la vocaliste semble littéralement suivre le rythme de ses parties, ce qui est plutôt une bonne chose ici! Là encore Michael Amott et Joey Concepcion s’en donnent à coeur joie sur les guitares , vraiment là où Arch Enemy ne déçoivent jamais c’est bien dans leurs parties instrumentales riches et carrées. A Millon Suns est un morceau plus court et un peu moins rapide et brut qui va presque apporter un peu de réconfort aux auditeurs même si le chant guttural est toujours omniprésent il semble être ici plus apaisant que sur les titres précédents.
Presage est un court interlude avec une ouverture au violon vite rejoint par une guitare aux sonorités latines, un court répit avant la reprise des hostilités avec le titre éponyme Blood Dynasty! Un single en cache un autre puisque c’est Paper Tiger (un des titres préférés du groupe sur ce nouvel album) qui prend la suite. Ce qui est appréciable sur Blood Dynasty c’est que les morceaux sont relativement courts et s’enchaînent parfaitement bien, là encore Paper Tiger , un instrumental plus Heavy , une chanteuse rugissante qui donne dans des tonalités plus aigües qu’à son habitude, Arch Enemy propose ici une nouvelle direction musical très plaisante! Vivre Libre est un hommage aux racines canadiennes de Alissa, à l’origine interprété par le groupe de Hard Rock Français Blasphème, ce morceau est réellement inattendu et devait apparaître à l’origine comme bonus track mais a été intégré officiellement à la tracklist même si ici, le Hard Rock n’est pas vraiment notre tasse de thé la performance est bien menée et il est probable qu’un jour le public français/canadien l’entende en live, seul l’avenir nous le dira! Le dernier morceau est lui aussi un single Liars & Thieves, ce dernier titre résume plutôt bien l’ensemble de ce nouvel opus en combinant plusieurs éléments, le chant clair plus axé Heavy , le chant guttural puissant et une double pédale qui est elle aussi surpuissante, la fin traînante est plutôt intéressante et semble être faite pour rassembler les troupes une dernière fois.
Les dernier albums de Arch Enemy ne nous avaient pas vraiment enthousiasmés mais force est de reconnaître que ce Blood Dynasty malgré un léger bémol concernant le chant clair est plutôt réussi. Le groupe propose de nouvelles choses et expérimente d’une très belle façon. Ce ne sera peut-être pas l’album de l’année mais ce nouvel opus plaira sûrement à un très grand nombre!

[ENGLISH VERSION] Arch Enemy is (in a few days’ time) 13 studio albums into a 30-year career! To mark this special anniversary, the Swedish band are releasing their new album Blood Dynasty on 28 March 2025 via Century Media Records!
The new album opens with the single Dream Stealer, which opens with gothic, mysterious melodies before a barrage of riffs and blasts! The band even throw in some heavy influences before the chorus, with backing vocals on the latter reinforcing the depth of Alissa White-Gluz‘s throaty vocals. Her performance on this track is to be commended, her vocals are powerful and unifying. As for the guitar solos, they’re obviously equally present and devilishly well executed! Blood Dynasty gets off to a pretty good start, but with Arch Enemy you can expect anything (even the worst?). Illuminate The Path seemed to get off to a good start, but of course the clean vocals ruin everything… a shame, because the track could have been considered a really good piece of melodic death metal, where the work on the melodies is really good. March Of The Miscreants puts Daniel Erlandsson (drums) in the spotlight with a very steady rhythm and the vocalist’s vocals literally seem to follow the rhythm of his parts, which is a good thing here! Once again, Michael Amott and Joey Concepcion have a field day on the guitars, but where Arch Enemy never disappoint is in their rich, tight instrumental parts. A Millon Suns is a shorter track, a little less fast and raw, which almost brings a little comfort to listeners, even if the guttural vocals are still omnipresent, here they seem to be more soothing than on the previous tracks.
Presage is a short interlude with a violin opening quickly joined by a Latin-sounding guitar, a short respite before hostilities resume with the eponymous Blood Dynasty! One single hides another as Paper Tiger (one of the band’s favourite tracks on this new album) takes over. What’s great about Blood Dynasty is that the tracks are relatively short and follow on perfectly from one another, and here again Paper Tiger is a heavier instrumental, with a roaring vocalist who gives a higher pitch than usual. Arch Enemy are going in a very pleasant new musical direction! Vivre Libre is a tribute to Alissa‘s French Canadian roots, originally performed by the French Hard Rock band, Blasphème this track is really unexpected and was originally intended to appear as a bonus track but has now been officially integrated into the tracklist, even if Hard Rock isn’t really our cup of tea here, the performance is well done and it’s likely that one day the French/Canadian public will hear it live, only time will tell! The last track is also a single, Liars & Thieves, which sums up the whole of this new opus rather well, combining several elements: the clear vocals, which are more heavy-oriented, the powerful guttural vocals and a double pedal which is also overpowering. The dragging ending is rather interesting and seems to have been made to rally the troops one last time.
Arch Enemy‘s last albums didn’t really excite us, but we have to admit that Blood Dynasty is a pretty good success, despite a slight downside concerning the clean vocals. The band try out new things and experiment in a beautiful way. It may not be the album of the year, but this new opus is sure to please a great many people!
