[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] L’artiste KEYSE nous a accordé une interview pour la sortie de son album deluxe “ TRAUMA BOND” un album très personnel pour elle et plein d’émotions.

1- Pourquoi as-tu choisi le titre « Trauma Bond », et que signifie-t-il pour vous personnellement ?
J’ai choisi ce titre, en partie, pour son jeu de mots. « Trauma Bond » a une définition officielle, qui est assez proche de celle du syndrome de Stockholm. Cependant, Internet a adopté sa propre définition du terme, l’utilisant pour désigner un traumatisme mutuellement compris ou partagé que l’on peut avoir avec une autre personne. Cet album est une exploration assez superficielle du traumatisme sous différentes formes, rendue accessible de manière à ce que chaque auditeur puisse facilement y trouver un écho : ainsi, il crée un lien avec moi à chaque écoute.
2- Le son de l’album a-t-il évolué naturellement, ou tu avais une vision claire dès le début ?
On n’avait absolument aucune idée précise de ce à quoi cet album allait ressembler ou de quel son il allait avoir dès le départ. On a commencé par enregistrer « Are You High Enough To Hold Me? », qui, sur le plan sonore, est le morceau le plus atypique de cet opus. À partir de là, je pense qu’on s’est simplement laissés guider par ce qui nous semblait naturel à chaque instant de l’album, en essayant de déterminer quels sons ou quelles ambiances n’avaient pas encore été explorés, ou en tentant de combler les lacunes de ce qui manquait à ce moment-là.
3- Quels sont les thèmes auxquels tu souhaites le plus que les auditeurs s’identifient ?
Je ne pense pas qu’il y ait un thème unique que je pourrais désigner comme étant celui auquel je m’identifie exclusivement dans cet album. Je pense que cet album peut parfois sembler un peu oppressant, avec des chansons comme « Circle » et « Burnout » qui traitent d’une santé mentale en déclin. Je pense qu’il y a du désespoir dans des chansons comme « Lost » et « Are You High Enough to Hold Me? ». Il y a un peu de rage dans « Testify » et « Asking For It ». Je pense que nous avons couvert un large éventail d’émotions en écrivant cet album, et je pense que ce contraste saisissant est précisément ce qui fait de cet opus exactement ce qu’il doit être pour raconter cette histoire.
4- Y a-t-il des paroles de l’album qui te touchent particulièrement ?
« Ce n’était pas une lumière que je voyais dans tes yeux, juste le reflet de la mienne », tiré de « Lost », me touche particulièrement. Cette chanson, en particulier, a été écrite dans sa première version quand j’avais dix-sept ans, en collaboration avec un de mes anciens partenaires. Cette relation s’est terminée de manière assez tumultueuse, alors j’ai supprimé tout ce qu’il avait écrit et j’ai réécrit le texte pour raconter comment ça s’était terminé.
5- Quelle chanson incarne le mieux le message général du projet ?
Je dirais sans hésiter « Let You Down ». C’est cette chanson qui a fait découvrir mon travail à la plupart de mes fans actuels, et c’est la première qui me vient à l’esprit quand je parle de l’album. Je pense qu’elle reste le morceau idéal pour clôturer l’album et les concerts.
6- Qu’est-ce que la création de « Trauma Bond » t’a appris sur toi-même ?
Cela m’a appris que je dois faire preuve de plus de patience.
7- Considères- tu cet album comme un moyen de guérison, un tournant, ou plutôt comme une réflexion ?
Même si cet album est extrêmement personnel pour moi, je ne pense pas qu’il effleure ne serait-ce que la surface de ce dont j’ai besoin pour guérir. Mais il y a toujours un autre album, et celui-ci est en préparation pour très bientôt. Je considère cet album comme une réflexion, non pas nécessairement sur son contenu, mais sur la durée et les épreuves que j’ai traversées en coulisses pendant sa création. Cela me donne l’espoir que, quelle que soit la lourdeur de la situation, je peux toujours m’en servir pour alimenter le feu de la création, et, je l’espère, créer des liens avec les autres au cours de ce processus.

1- Why did you choose the title Trauma Bond, and what does it personally mean to you?
I chose the title, a bit, as a play on words. Trauma Bond has its official definition, which is pretty synonymous to that of Stockholm Syndrome. However, the internet has adopted their own definition of the term, using it as a way to refer to a mutually understood or shared trauma that you might have with another individual. This album is a pretty surface level exploration of trauma in varying forms, made accessible in a way to make it easy for whoever listens to find something to relate to: thus, bonding with me through each listen.
2- Did the sound of the album evolve naturally, or did you have a clear vision from the beginning?
There was definitely not a clear understanding of what this album was going to look or sound like from the start. We started with recording Are You High Enough To Hold Me? Which sonically is the outlier of this body of work. From there, I think we just leaned into what felt natural for each moment on the album, trying to consider what sounds or vibes were not quite yet explored or attempting to fill the gaps for what it was currently lacking.
3- What themes did you most want listeners to connect with?
I don’t think there is one singular theme that I could pin point being the one I identify solely with this album. I think this album can feel a bit suffocating at times with songs like Circle and Burnout discussing a declining mental health. I think there’s despair in songs like Lost and Are You High Enough to Hold Me?. There’s a little bit of rage in Testify and Asking For It. I think we covered a broad spectrum of emotions when writing this album, and I think that the whiplash is what makes this body of work exactly what it needs to be to tell the story.
4- Is there a lyric on the album that feels especially personal to you?
“It wasn’t a light I saw in your eyes, just reflections of mine” from Lost is pretty personal to me. This song in particular in its first draft was written when I was seventeen alongside a former partner of mine. That relationship concluded pretty tumultuously, so I scrapped everything in it that they had written and re-wrote as a recounting of how it ended.
5- Which song best represents the overall message of the project?
I would say Let You Down for sure. This song is what introduced most of my current fans to my work and my mind immediately goes to it when I discuss the album. I think it remains the perfect album and live show closer.
6- What did creating Trauma Bond teach you about yourself?
It taught me that I need to require more patience.
7- Do you see this album as healing, closure, or more of a reflection?
Though this album is incredibly personal to me, I don’t think it even scratches the surface of the things I need to heal from. But there’s always another album, and that is on the way in the near future. I do see this album as a reflection of not necessarily its contents, but the duration and trials and tribulations I experienced behind the scenes while making it. It does bring me hope that no matter how heavy things may feel, that I can always use it to fuel the fire of creation, and hopefully connect with others in the process.
