[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Chaque album de Foo Fighters est un événement dans la sphère Rock mondiale, et ce nouveau Your Favorite Toy n’échappe pas à la règle! Il est disponible depuis le 24 avril dernier via Sony Music/RCA Records.
Et le disque s’ouvre avec Caught In The Echo, c’est Rock avec une certaine agressivité qui vient lorgner du côté Punk apporté par la frappe du nouveau batteur Ilan Rubin. C’est Raw et authentique, on retrouve un Dave Grohl en grande forme vocale et des influences d’un Foo Fighters un peu plus Old-School. Of All People et ses riffs catchy plairont au plus grand nombre, le morceau a un côte presque dansant et motivant, en gros tu mets ça comme une sonnerie pour te réveiller le matin, c’est presque parfait! Le texte est par contre très répétitif mais on sent la colère dans les paroles du groupe et c’est peut-être ici quelque chose qui manquait cruellement à leurs derniers albums et que certains fans seront heureux de retrouver. Window ralentit la cadence et se rapproche de quelque chose de presque plus Grunge dans son approche ce qui en fait un morceau intéressant dans son approche et dans sa position sur la tracklist.
Your Favorite Toy, morceau éponyme revient à quelque chose de plus dynamique, plus « énervé » comme le montre la voix du chanteur/guitariste dès ses premières lignes de chant quand à If You Only Knew le morceau peine un peu à décoller lorgnant plus du côté Pop-Rock que du Rock pur et dur. Heureusement que Spit Shine revient à quelque chose de plus sympa et plus dynamique tandis que Unconditionnal revient sur de la Pop, ce morceau ralentit le rythme tout comme Child Actor plus dépouillé, plus sobre ici on a les Foo Fighters dans leur forme la plus pure. C’est avec Asking For A Friend que le groupe va fermer ce nouveau chapitre de sa carrière, un morceau qui fait la synthèse d’un peu tout ce qu’on peut retrouver sur ce nouvel album, le titre monte en puissance et finit par une explosion finale, en soit peut-être rien de très original pour certains mais de plutôt appréciable.
Your Favorite Toy ne sera sûrement pas l’album le plus innovant, ni le plus ambitieux de Foo Fighters mais ici on se contentera juste de retrouver un groupe qu’on aime particulièrement qui évolue mais nous propose toujours des titres qu’on appréciera réécouter quand l’occasion se présentera.

[ENGLISH VERSION] Every Foo Fighters album is a major event in the global rock scene, and this new release, *Your Favorite Toy*, is no exception! It has been available since April 24 via Sony Music/RCA Records.
The album opens with “Caught In The Echo,” a rock track with a certain aggression that hints at punk, thanks to the drumming of new drummer Ilan Rubin. It’s raw and authentic, featuring Dave Grohl in top vocal form and influences from a slightly more old-school Foo Fighters. “Of All People” and its catchy riffs will appeal to a wide audience; the track has an almost danceable and uplifting vibe—basically, set this as your morning alarm, and it’s almost perfect! The lyrics, however, are very repetitive, but you can feel the anger in the band’s words, and this is perhaps something that was sorely missing from their last albums—and that some fans will be happy to hear again. “Window” slows the pace and leans toward a more grunge-like approach, making it an interesting track both in its style and its placement on the tracklist.
“Your Favorite Toy,” the title track, returns to something more dynamic, more “edgy,” as evidenced by the singer/guitarist’s voice from the very first lines of the song, whereas “If You Only Knew” struggles a bit to take off, leaning more toward pop-rock than hard-core rock. Fortunately, “Spit Shine” returns to a more enjoyable and dynamic vibe, while “Unconditional” shifts back to pop; this track slows the pace, just like “Child Actor,” which is more stripped-down and understated—here we have the Foo Fighters in their purest form. It’s with “Asking For A Friend” that the band closes this new chapter of their career—a track that encapsulates just about everything found on this new album. The song builds in intensity and ends with a final explosion; while perhaps not very original to some, it’s still quite enjoyable.
“Your Favorite Toy” is certainly not the Foo Fighters’ most innovative or ambitious album, but here we’ll simply be content to rediscover a band we particularly love—one that’s evolving but still offers us tracks we’ll enjoy listening to again whenever the opportunity arises.
