L’ancien bassiste de Nightwish nous montre à travers Frankenstein’s Wife qu’il sait faire autre chose que du Metal symphonique classique, mais en prime on a le droit à de grosses inspirations Hard Rock / Heavy Metal et c’est assez plaisant. En plus de tout ça avec son ancienne comparse Tarja Turunen c’est Left On Mars qui vient agrémenter ce nouvel horizon en offrant un duo de voix intéressant. Proud Whore, The Devil You Know, Rebel Of The North suivent un peu le chemin des chansons précédentes, simples et efficaces mais avec toutes leurs identités sonores uniques.
Two Soldiers sert de ballade assez minimaliste afin de maximiser les sensations et ressentis, surtout au niveau vocal et sur l’interlude instrumentale très élégante qui est précédée par un discours touchant. La tension monte d’un cran avec The Dragon Must Die et son introduction aux inspirations Power Metal, ce qui me fait penser à du Dragony ou encore du All For Metal, simple et catchy.
Impatient Zero va être la chanson Live par excellence avec son refrain qu’on a tous envie de scander a tue-tête et sa rythmique dansante et accessible. Tammikuu créée la surprise en étant le seul titre de cet opus a être dans la langue natale du chanteur, en Finnois, ce qui change et apporte une vague de fraicheur. Et enfin en conclusion Roses From The Deep qui pourrait rejoindre son copain cité plus haut dans la catégorie ballade simple et élégante pour clôturer cet opus dans la douceur.
Marko Hietala n’a pas fini de nous étonner avec sa palette de compétences, du Hard Rock en passant par des slows Rock pour finir avec du Power Metal, l’ancien bassiste de Nightwish nous montre que même en solo il arrive à nous sortir un album de qualité et varié qui plaira à un grand nombre.

Marko Hietala presents his second solo album, Roses From The Deep, available from Nuclear Blast on February 7, 2025.
With Frankenstein’s Wife, the former Nightwish bassist shows us that he’s determined to do something other than classic symphonic metal, but we’re also treated to some hard rock/heavy metal inspiration, and that’s quite pleasant. On top of all this, with his former bandmate Tarja Turunen, Left On Mars adds an interesting vocal duet to this new horizon. Proud Whore, The Devil You Know, Rebel Of The North follow in the footsteps of previous songs, simple and effective but with their own unique sonic identities.
Two Soldiers serves as a fairly minimalist ballad to maximize the sensations and feelings, especially vocally and on the very elegant instrumental interlude, which is preceded by a touching speech. The tension rises a notch with The Dragon Must Die and its Power Metal-inspired introduction, which reminds me of Dragony or All For Metal, simple and catchy.
Impatient Zero is going to be the Live song par excellence, with its chorus that we all want to chant at the top of our lungs and its danceable, accessible rhythm. Tammikuu comes as a surprise, being the only track on this opus to be in the singer’s native tongue, Finnish, which is a refreshing change. And finally, Roses From The Deep, which could join its aforementioned friend in the simple, elegant ballad category to bring this opus to a gentle close.
Marko Hietala has not finished astonishing us with his range of skills, from hard rock to slow rock to power metal, the former Nightwish bassist shows us that even as a solo artist he can produce a varied, high-quality album that will appeal to a wide audience.
