A l’occasion de la sortie du nouvel album de Frozen Crown, nous avons eu l’opportunité de poser quelques question à Federico Mondelli, guitariste. L’album est disponible depuis le 18 octobre 2024 par le label Napalm Records.

1.Bonjour, pouvez-vous commencer par nous présenter le groupe ?
Frozen Crown est né en 2017 en tant que projet solo, puis par moi, puis a été rejoint par la chanteuse Jade Etro. Et puis après cela, nous avons atteint le line up actuel en 2020 avec Fabiola Bellomo à la guitare, Niso Tomassini à la batterie et Francesco Zoff à la basse, lorsque nous sortirons notre troisième album, Winter Bane. Nous avons commencé en tant que groupe, en produisant principalement du contenu en ligne, en commençant par des vidéos à la fois officielles et en coulisses, et toutes sortes de vidéos de contenu. Cela nous a permis d’avoir un certain nombre de fans, ce qui nous a permis de jouer en Europe et dans le monde entier. Nous avons fait une tournée au Japon. Nous sommes allés à Prog Power récemment, et nous avons fait plusieurs tournées en Europe avec des groupes comme DragonForce, Udo Udo, Dirkschneider et actuellement nous sommes en tournée avec Kamelot, en première partie d’AD Infinitum et Black Briar.
2. Peux-tu nous en dire plus sur ce nouvel album ?
Ce nouvel album est notre cinquième et le premier avec Napalm Records. C’est aussi le premier à présenter notre nouveau guitariste, Alessio Lanzoni. Avec leur arrivée, le groupe s’est transformé en un groupe de trois musiciens. Et cela se reflète bien sûr dans l’album. Vous pouvez écouter non seulement tous les riffs de guitare qui sont harmonisés, mais aussi de nombreux motifs rythmiques qui sont doublés. Une octave plus bas, une octave plus haut. Et ce type de complexité peut être réécrit en direct avec l’ajout de ce troisième guitariste. C’est aussi un nouveau départ pour nous, car il marque le renouvellement du line-up ! Et aussi, comme je l’ai dit, le premier album sous un nouveau label, ce qui nous a donné, bien sûr, cette exposition internationale. Nous sommes très fiers de cet album et nous pensons qu’il représente la quintessence du son de Frozen Crown.
3. Quelles sont les chansons de cet album qui vous représentent le plus ?
Je dirais toutes, mais surtout, la première marque l’arrivée de notre nouveau guitariste l’année dernière, ainsi que celle de tous les membres qui ont apporté leur propre contribution pour la première fois en studio sur l’une de nos chansons. Cette chanson représente en fait toutes nos personnalités. Je dirais aussi que Stealing Gold est une chanson qui nous représente vraiment beaucoup. Et aussi To live to die probablement.
4. Quelle est votre première influence musicale (nom de groupe) ?
Je dirais Children of Bodom, Wintersun et In Flames peut-être. C’est une énorme influence pour nous en ce qui concerne la partie rythmique, donc des groupes qui sont plus liés au death metal mélodique. Pour ce qui est des influences power metal, je dirais blind Guardian et les premiers Sonata Arctica, les premiers Angra.
5. Avec quel groupe aimeriez vous travailler ?
Il y en a beaucoup, bien sûr, mais le plus récent auquel je pense est peut-être Unleash the Archers.
6. Qui a dessiné le visuel de l’album, peux-tu nous parler de sa représentation ?
Le visuel de l’album a été dessiné par moi, et il s’agit d’une représentation de six guerriers ou aventuriers qui font face à un grand ennemi. Ce grand ennemi provient principalement d’une inspiration asiatique, comme les animes et les mangas japonais, de Nagai Devilman à Neon Genesis Evangelion. Il représente la volonté de faire face aux problèmes quotidiens, aux difficultés de tous les jours, et de se battre ensemble pour les surmonter grâce à l’union et aux liens entre les gens. C’est exactement ce que représente War Heart, le lien qui nous unit tous les six.
7. Que dirais-tu à quelqu’un qui ne connaît pas Frozen Crown pour qu’il ait envie de vous découvrir ?
Je dirais que nous sommes un groupe assez jeune qui mélange des aspects power metal avec des aspects death metal mélodique et qui sonne assez moderne, tout en gardant une saveur old school dans l’écriture des chansons.
8. Dans toute votre discographie, quelle est votre chanson préférée et pourquoi ?
Je dirais que les chansons les plus longues sont nos préférées. Par exemple, Crown Eternal ou Blood on the snow et notre dernière longue chanson, Ice Dragon dans nos coeurs, sera certainement notre préférée à interpréter en live quand nous y parviendrons.
9. Si vous avez quelque chose à dire à vos fans français, ces derniers mots sont pour vous !
Salut les gars ! Nous avons eu la chance de vous rencontrer pour la première fois lors de la tournée avec DragonForce, et bien sûr, depuis, nous ne sommes pas venus si souvent en France. Mais en fait, maintenant que nous sommes en tournée avec Kamelot, nous avons la chance de venir à Lyon. Nous espérons vraiment venir dans beaucoup d’autres villes à l’avenir. Et bien sûr, nous espérons que nous pourrons bientôt jouer devant vous et que vous aimerez notre nouvel album et nos concerts.

1.Hi, Can you start by introducing the band for us?
Frozen Crown was born in 2017 as a first a solo project, then by me, then was joined by singer Jade Etro. And then after that we reached the current line up in 2020 with Fabiola Bellomo on guitar, Niso Tomassini on drums and Francesco Zoff on bass, when we release our third album, Winter Bane. We started as a band, mostly producing content online, starting with videos both official and behind the scenes and, all kind of content videos. That allowed us to have, quite a following that somehow made it possible for us to play around Europe and all around the world. We toured Toward Japan. We have been to us at Prog Power recently, and we toured Europe several times with bands like DragonForce, Udo Udo, Dirkschneider and currently we are on tour with Kamelot, supporting them with AD Infinitum and Black Briar.
2. Can you tell us more about this new album?
This new album is our fifth and the first one with Napalm Records. Also the first one to feature the introduction of our new guitar player, Alessio Lanzoni. With their arrival, the band turned into a three piece band. And this, of course, is reflected in the album as well. You can listen tonot only every single guitar riff that has got pretty much an harmonization, but you can also listen to many rhythm patterns that are doubled. So one octave lower, one octave higher. And this kind of complexity is actually able to be Rewrote live with the addition of this third guitar player. What is also a new beginning for us as it marks this new renewed line up! And also, as I said, the first album under a new label, which gave us, of course, this international exposure. And we are very proud of this album and we think it represents the quintessential sound of Frozen Crown.
3.Which songs on this album represent you the most?
I would say all of them, but mostly, the first one actually marks the arrival of our new guitar player last year, as well as, of all the members actually bringing their own thing for the first time in the studio on one of our songs. That song is actually represented as representing all of our personalities. I would also say Stealing Gold is a song that really represents us a lot. And also to live to die probably.
4. What is your first music influenced (band name)?
I would say Children of Bodom, Wintersun and In Flames maybe. Huge influence for us for what concerns the rhythm part so bands that are more tied to the melodic death metal sound. For what concerns the power metal influences, I would say blind Guardian and early Sonata Arctica, Early Angra.
5. Which band would you like to work with?
There are many, of course, but maybe the newest one I could think about is Unleash the Archers.
6. Who designed the album visual, Can you talk about what’s the representation?
The album visual was drawn by me, and it’s about a depiction of six warriors or adventurers that are actually facing a big enemy. The big enemy is actually coming from mostly Asian like Japanese anime and manga inspiration, from Nagai Devilman to Neon Genesis Evangelion as well. And it represents the will to face everyday problems, everyday difficulties, and to fight together to win over them with the union and with the bond between people. Which is exactly what War Heart is about the bond between the six of us.
7. What would you say to someone who does know Frozen Crown to make them want to discover you?
I would say that we are a pretty young band that mixes power metal aspects with melodic death metal aspects and sounds pretty modern as well, while keeping an old school flavor in the songwriting.
8. In all your discography, which song is your favorite to perform and why?
I would say probably the longest ones are our favorites. For example, Crown Eternal or Blood on the snow and our newest long song, which is Ice Dragon on our hearts, is definitely going to be our favorite to perform live when we manage to do that.
9. If you have anything to say to your French fans, last words are for you !
Hey guys ! We had the chance to meet you for the first time on tour with DragonForce, and of course since then we have not come so frequently in France. But actually, now that we are on tour with Kamelot, we are definitely getting the chance to come to Lyon. We really hope to come in a lot more cities in the future. And of course we hope we will be able to play in front of you soon and that you will love our new album and also our live show.
