Le groupe de deathcore slovène, Within Destruction, est de retour avec un nouvel album ! Ce dernier intitulé Animetal est le premier sous le label Sumerian Records et sera disponible dès le 11 avril. Cet opus traite de nombreux sujets, oscillant entre des personnages et des situations fictifs et des motifs liés à la vie de tous les jours.
Ce nouvel album ouvre sur Animetal qui est très dynamique, avec quelques harmoniques, on se prend directement au jeu. Le chant vient apporter une touche de violence et il est rapidement suivi de notes électro, qui font monter le titre et permettent au chant clair d’arriver. On découvre de belles accélérations, des passages clairs qui viennent apaiser les choses. Les scream sont appuyés par une instrumentalité puissante, offrant un morceau complet et qui ouvre parfaitement l’écoute. Demon Child à une ambiance différente, on est sur quelque chose de plus posé où les instruments sont mis en avant. Le chant apporte sa violence, alors que l’instrumentalité semble s’effacer. Avec l’arrivée du chant clair, on part sur du positif et lumineux, alternant avec des passages instrumentaux intenses. On nous conduit vers des passages inspirés du djent et surtout à un breakdown intéressant et qui relance une dernière fois le morceau. Avec Kanashibari, l’ambiance est plus lourde, renforcée par d’énormes scream dès le début. L’ensemble est plus sombre, presque angoissant et c’est le chant clair qui vient apporter une touche de douceur. Un titre intense où le groupe joue sur différents niveaux et c’est très bien construit !

Bitter Embrace débute avec des sonorités plus douces. Le chant est en total opposition car il semble menaçant, prenant presque le rôle d’un prédateur. Le reste du groupe arrive rapidement et on alterne avec ces deux rythmes. Le chant clair va totalement s’opposer, tout comme le solo de guitare, durant la dernière partie, qui est aérien. Un titre qui se démarque par sa construction et l’idée. Fate || Separate à une instrumentalité dynamique et très entraînante. J’aime beaucoup l’impulsion que donne le chant clair. On trouve moins de scream ici et ils sont combinés au chant clair, donnant un effet intéressant. C’est vers la moitié que les choses changent un peu, on découvre quelque chose de plus profond mais aussi de plus lourd. Des chœurs apparaissent et restent discrets mais sont rudement efficaces. Cybergirl à une introduction assez atmosphérique. Le chant arrive dans un murmure et crée une ambiance différente. Les instruments arrivent et ajoutent à l’atmosphère tranquille. On vient nous surprendre avec un chant clair différent, qui monte beaucoup plus dans les aigus, créant un beau contraste avec le chant grave. On joue à nouveau sur les niveaux, sur le rythme avec un refrain très dynamique. Ce titre est un bel exemple de la nouvelle orientation du groupe.
C’est la guitare qui ouvre sur Incomplete, créant une ambiance douce et captivante, renforcée par l’arrivée du chant clair. Le tout crée une bulle de douceur qui vient d’être brisé par l’arrivée de la batterie et celle de scream, accélérant les choses. On alterne entre ces deux ambiances et j’accroche totalement à la dynamique qui en ressort. Stay 4ever nous surprend car il s’agit d’un interlude musical. Pas de chant ici mais une ambiance dynamique et assez rapide. L’ensemble monte petit à petit, incorporant des passages électro et cela donne le sentiment d’être une musique d’anime. Automaton ouvre sur la guitare mais est rapidement rattrapé par le chant qui lance véritablement le morceau. J’aime beaucoup l’ambiance qui en ressort ici, jusqu’à la transformation des scream en murmure. L’ensemble devient alors plus menaçante et prend de plus en plus d’ampleur. Il se fait radoucir avec le chant clair, accompagné de nombreuses sonorités qui fusent dans tous les sens. Certainement l’un de mes titres préférés de ce nouvel album, qui est complet et vraiment intéressant à écouter.

L’introduction de Hide & Sick est portée sur des sonorités électro et crée quelque chose d’assez étrange. C’est avec le chant que le titre va véritablement se lancer et l’instrumentalité produit quelque chose d’assez rapide. On alterne entre passages plus calmes, appuyés par l’électro et un chant clair qui s’incorpore très bien ici, semblant flotter sur l’ensemble. Le titre nous surprend véritablement au niveau du chant et un breakdown incroyable est introduit par quelques paroles en japonais. La fin vient littéralement tout retourner. Torment commence avec une instrumentalité forte et qui s’impose. Le chant vient apporter une touche de douceur, appuyé par les sonorités électro, on se laisse clairement porter. Le chant clair quant à lui vient dynamiser le titre et apporte quelque chose de plus lumineux à l’ensemble. J’aime beaucoup le rythme de ce morceau, qui oscille avec de nombreuses choses et une dernière partie qui monte en puissance, tant vocale que instrumentale. J’apprécie aussi le chant qui a quelque influence à la Korn qui entre parfaitement dans le morceau. Le dernier titre A love that slowly died, change radicalement du reste. L’introduction est lente, très atmosphérique et avec un chant différent. Le morceau surprend dans sa construction et se démarque rapidement. Passé la moitié, le groupe nous surprend et la violence reprend ses droits. Une belle conclusion.
Je suis Within Destruction depuis leur début et ce nouvel album va marquer par sa différence. On est loin du concentré de violence qu’a pu apporter Void ou Deathwish. Mais j’ai trouvé l’évolution du groupe intéressante et des morceaux qui fonctionnent parfaitement. Les membres nous surprennent à chaque fois et j’apprécie leur nouvelle direction artistique.

A love that slowly died
Slovenian deathcore band Within Destruction is back with a new album! This latest album, titled Animetal, is their first under Sumerian Records and will be available on April 11th. This album covers a wide range of topics, ranging from fictional characters and situations to everyday motifs.
This new album opens with Animetal which is very dynamic, with some harmonics, we get caught up in the game right away. The vocals bring a touch of violence and are quickly followed by electro notes, which make the title rise and allow the clean vocals to arrive. We discover beautiful accelerations, clear passages which calm things down. The screams are supported by powerful instrumentality, offering a complete piece and which perfectly opens the listening. Demon Child has a different atmosphere, we are on something more laid back where the instruments are put forward. The vocals bring their violence, while the instrumentality seems to fade away. With the arrival of the clean vocals, we start on something positive and bright, alternating with intense instrumental passages. We are led towards passages inspired by djent and especially to an interesting breakdown which relaunches the piece one last time. With Kanashibari, the atmosphere is heavier, reinforced by enormous screams from the beginning. The whole thing is darker, almost distressing, and it’s the clear vocals that bring a touch of sweetness. An intense track where the band plays on different levels and it’s very well constructed!

Bitter Embrace begins with softer tones. The vocals are in total opposition as they seem threatening, almost taking on the role of a predator. The rest of the band arrives quickly and we alternate between these two rhythms. The clean vocals will completely oppose each other, as will the guitar solo, during the last part, which is airy. A track that stands out for its construction and idea. Fate || Separate has dynamic and very catchy instrumentality. I really like the momentum given by the clean vocals. There is less screaming here and they are combined with the clean vocals, giving an interesting effect. It’s around the middle that things change a little, we discover something deeper but also heavier. Backing vocals appear and remain discreet but are very effective. Cybergirl has a rather atmospheric introduction. The vocals arrive in a whisper and create a different atmosphere. The instruments arrive and add to the tranquil atmosphere. We are surprised with a different clean vocal, which rises much more in the treble, creating a beautiful contrast with the deep vocals. We’re once again playing with levels and rhythm, with a very dynamic chorus. This track is a great example of the band’s new direction.
It’s the guitar that opens Incomplete, creating a soft and captivating atmosphere, reinforced by the arrival of clean vocals. The whole thing creates a bubble of softness that is just broken by the arrival of the drums and the scream, accelerating things. We alternate between these two atmospheres and I totally get hooked on the dynamic that emerges. Stay 4ever surprises us because it is a musical interlude. No vocals here but a dynamic and quite fast atmosphere. The whole thing builds little by little, incorporating electro passages and it gives the feeling of being anime music. Automaton opens with the guitar but is quickly caught up by the vocals that really launch the piece. I really like the atmosphere that emerges here, until the transformation of the screams into whispers. The whole thing then becomes more threatening and takes on more and more scope. It softens with the clean vocals, accompanied by many sounds that burst out in all directions. Definitely one of my favorite tracks from this new album, which is complete and really interesting to listen to.

The introduction of Hide & Sick is carried by electro sounds and creates something quite strange. It is with the vocals that the title will really launch and the instrumentality produces something quite fast. We alternate between calmer passages, supported by the electro and a clear vocal that is incorporated very well here, seeming to float on the whole. The title really surprises us at the level of the vocals and an incredible breakdown is introduced by some lyrics in Japanese. The end literally turns everything upside down. Torment begins with a strong and imposing instrumentality. The vocals bring a touch of softness, supported by the electro sounds, we clearly let ourselves be carried away. The clear vocals come to energize the title and bring something brighter to the whole. I really like the rhythm of this song, which oscillates with many things and a last part that builds in power, both vocal and instrumental. I also appreciate the vocals which have some Korn influence which fits perfectly into the song. The final track, A Love That Slowly Died, is a radical departure from the rest. The introduction is slow, very atmospheric, and features distinctive vocals. The song’s structure is surprising and quickly stands out. Halfway through, the band surprises us, and the violence takes over. A beautiful conclusion.
I’ve been following Within Destruction since their debut, and this new album stands out for its difference. It’s a far cry from the concentrated violence that Void or Deathwish brought. But I found the band’s evolution interesting, and the songs work perfectly. The members surprise us every time, and I appreciate their new artistic direction.
