[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Le duo australien de « Death-Pop » VOWWS (Matt James et Rizz) a sorti son troisième album studio i’ll fill your house with an army le 24 octobre dernier via Out Of Line Music.
C’est avec le titre Blood’s On Fire que s’ouvre ce nouvel opus avec son refrain Electro/Indus puissant et ses harmonies vocales, VOWWS donne le ton d’entrée de jeu! La voix de Rizz donne un côté encore plus immersif à l’ensemble et on se laisse vite entraînés dans l’univers du duo avec ce premier morceau. SHUDDER est un feat avec James « Munky » Shaffer (Korn) et Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle) , on retrouve une ambiance hypnotique sur les couplets très épurés, cette ambiance est parfaitement soutenue par les voix de Rizz et de Josh avant que le refrain ne vienne faire tout exploser. Le single Pulls Me Apart et les voix fantomatiques du duo vont vous hanter un bon moment avec une influence très 80’s Goth dans son approche musicale, on se laisse vite emportés par la beauté de ce nouveau titre. Tandis que Silhouette revient sur une énergie plus Punk en gardant des influences Goth au niveau instrumental, on retrouve principalement la voix de Matt sur les couplets, Rizz le rejoignant sur le refrain et sur le deuxième couplet, ses vocalises comme hantant le morceau. Hurt You est purement influencé Depeche Mode (et ça on aime très très fort) , la composition est plus lente, plus émouvante et plus délicate avant Re-Animator qui semble naviguer entre ombre et lumière tout en gardant un côté entraînant!
Casualty est un morceau presque oppressant voir angoissant, VOWWS travaille de façon soignée sur ses ambiances et ça se ressent dans chaque titre de ce nouvel opus mais particulièrement sur ce titre. Harder To Pretend et son intro presque accoustique va changer la donne sur l’album même si le duo garde son identité, on ressent de nouvelles choses au niveau instrumental et on reste fascinés par la voix de Rizz qui nous transporte toujours autant. I Never Left est probablement le plus beau morceau sur i’ll fill your house with an army c’est envoûtant, beau et profond un peu dans la veine de Hurt You. One Short continue dans la vague des morceaux plus « dépouillés » avec des passages acoustiques et des voix claires avant le retour des nappes de synthés qui viennent créer un contraste saisisant avant que le final ne se fasse sur Waterline et son ambiance presque cinématographique pour une dernière plongée dans l’univers de VOWWS.
Ce nouvel opus de VOWWS est une nouvelle plongée dans leur univers sombre, dramatique, gothique et presque romantique et fera à coup sûr de nouveaux adeptes à leur musique contrastant entre moments dynamiques et d’autres plus versés dans l’émotion. Un très bon album qu’on recommande chaudement!

[ENGLISH VERSION] Australian death-pop duo VOWWS (Matt James and Rizz) released their third studio album, I’ll Fill Your House with an Army, on October 24 via Out Of Line Music.
The new album opens with the track Blood’s On Fire, with its powerful electro/industrial chorus and vocal harmonies, setting the tone right from the start! Rizz‘s voice adds an even more immersive quality to the whole, and we are quickly drawn into the duo’s universe with this first track. SHUDDER is a collaboration with James “Munky” Shaffer (Korn) and Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle). The verses have a hypnotic vibe, perfectly supported by Rizz and Josh‘s vocals, before the chorus kicks in and blows everything up. The single Pulls Me Apart and the duo’s ghostly vocals will haunt you for a while with a very 80s Goth influence in its musical approach, and we are quickly swept away by the beauty of this new track. While Silhouette returns to a more punk energy while retaining goth influences in the instrumentation, we mainly hear Matt‘s voice on the verses, with Rizz joining him on the chorus and second verse, her vocals haunting the track. Hurt You is purely influenced by Depeche Mode (which we love very much), with a slower, more moving and delicate composition, before Re-Animator, which seems to navigate between light and shadow while retaining a catchy side!
Casualty is an almost oppressive, even distressing track. VOWWS works meticulously on its atmospheres, and this can be felt in every track on this new album, but particularly on this one. HarderTo Pretend, with its almost acoustic intro, changes the tone of the album, even if the duo retains its identity. We feel new things on an instrumental level and remain fascinated by Rizz‘s voice, which continues to transport us. I Never Left is probably the most beautiful track on I’ll Fill Your House With an Army. It’s haunting, beautiful, and profound, somewhat in the vein of Hurt You. One Short continues in the vein of more “stripped-down” tracks with acoustic passages and clear vocals before the return of synth layers that create a striking contrast before the finale on Waterline and its almost cinematic atmosphere for one last dive into the world of VOWWS.
This new opus from VOWWS is another dive into their dark, dramatic, gothic, and almost romantic universe, and is sure to win new fans for their music, which contrasts dynamic moments with others that are more emotionally charged. A very good album that we highly recommend!
