[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Stand Atlantic était en tournée EU/UK en ce mois de septembre 2024 évidemment sans date pour la France, il était donc légitime pour moi de me rendre à Londres à l’Electric Brixton pour leur plus grosse date dans la capitale anglaise à ce jour.
Et la soirée commence doucement mais sûrement avec le groupe Slowly Slowly en ouverture de soirée! Stand Atlantic ont embarqués sur cette tournée leurs compatriotes australiens et la surprise est totale, l’ambiance est chaleureuse et malgré un début de set qui m’a un peu déconcertée j’ai fini par rentrer dans la musique du groupe sans difficulté bien aidée par la présence et l’énergie du chanteur Ben Stewart. Une bonne formation à revoir sur scène très prochainement à Paris, une date qui coïncidera avec la sortie de leur nouvel album en janvier!
Après avoir raté leur Headline Show à Paris en mai, il était temps de voir ENFIN mes chouchous de Honey Revenge sur scène! Le duo Devin Papadol/Donny Lloyd devient un quatuor sur scène avec une bassiste et un batteur. L’ambiance grimpe d’un cran dans la fosse, de nombreux fans de la formation de Los Angeles ont apparemment fait le déplacement ce soir. Le concert va commencer avec Seeing Negative (Disappointment) et la quasi totalité de leur premier album studio Retrovision ce sera joué ce soir moins Favorite Song présente sur la set-list sur d’autres dates de la tournée! L’énergie de Honey Revenge, leur vibe hyper positive et leur set hyper coloré est fait pour mettre du baume au coeur au public présent et ça fait vraiment du bien de voir un groupe comme ça sur une grande scène et d’entendre certaines paroles comme celles de Airhead résonner dans une salle quasi complète! Honey Revenge sont littéralement des bonbons autant artistiquement qu’humainement puisqu’on pourra retrouver le duo à leur merch à la fin de la soirée tout sourire et très disponible. Hâte de les revoir en tout cas!
Arrive le moment tant attendu : le set de Stand Atlantic! Après un VIP quasi désastreux (il faut bien le dire), les australiens vont débarquer sur scène avec l’intro de leur dernier album en date WAKE UP-SIT DOWN-SHUT UP raccourcie pour l’occasion. Comme d’habitude, Stand Atlantic joue devant une fosse totalement acquise à leur cause autant pour les anciens morceaux comme hair out qui va prendre la suite que sur les plus récents comme KISSIN’KILLER COBRAS. Le groupe est là pour présenter son nouvel album sorti quelques semaines avant la tournée et inutile de dire que les titres de WAS HERE sont des bangers autant en studio que dans leur version Live. Bonnie Fraser (chant/guitare) prendra la parole de nombreuses fois pour remercier le public de s’être déplacé pour leur plus gros show à Londres à ce jour mais elle est aussi très taquine avec les membres du groupe et ponctue le show de quelques touches d’humour notamment quand sa guitare accoustique semble l’avoir lâchée avant Toothpick. Mais le Highlight de la soirée c’est bien LE feat sur NOSE BLEED initialement avec Sueco ce soir c’est Patty Walters de As It Is dont le récent comeback avec sa formation initiale a été une des meilleures nouvelles de 2024, Patty sur scène c’est toujours quelque chose et là encore son énergie a apporté un nouveau souffle au morceau. C’est deathwish qui va venir conclure le set avec cette fois-ci la présence de Holly Minto de Crawlers sur le duo à l’origine avec nothing,nowhere et avant un rappel de qualité supérieure!
Car en effet Stand Atlantic n’a pas oublié ses OG Fans (comme moi) et c’est Coffee At Midnight extrait de leur premier EP qui va résonner dans l’Electric Brixton, une bonne surprise car le morceau n’était pas joué lors de leur tournée avec Waterparks, à croire qu’il faut attendre les shows en Headline pour avoir de plus vieux morceaux mais le show touche réellement à sa fin avec GIRL$ cette fois-ci c’est Devin de Honey Revenge qui va rejoindre Bonnie pour le dernier featuring de la soirée. Une très bonne conclusion à une soirée qui ne s’annonçait pourtant pas forcément bien dès le départ! Je ne saurais que trop vous conseiller de jeter une oreille à Stand Atlantic et à aller les voir sur scène dès que l’occasion se présentera, actuellement un des meilleurs groupes sur la scène Pop-Punk!
[ENGLISH VERSION] Stand Atlantic were on their EU/UK tour this September 2024, obviously without a date for France, so it was only right for me to head to London’s Electric Brixton for their biggest date in the English capital to date.
And the evening began slowly but surely, with Slowly Slowly opening the evening! Stand Atlantic have brought their Australian compatriots on board for this tour, and the surprise is total. The atmosphere is warm, and despite a set start that left me a little disconcerted, I ended up getting into the band’s music with ease, helped by the presence and energy of singer Ben Stewart. A good band to see again on stage very soon in Paris, a date which will coincide with the release of their new album in January!
After missing their Headline Show in Paris in May, it was time to FINALLY see my Honey Revenge darlings live on stage! The Devin Papadol/Donny Lloyd duo became a quartet on stage, with a bassist and a drummer. The atmosphere in the pit rises a notch, as many fans of the Los Angeles outfit have apparently made the trip tonight. The concert kicks off with Seeing Negative (Disappointment) and almost the entirety of their debut studio album Retrovision will be played tonight, minus Favorite Song, which will be on the set-list on other tour dates! Honey Revenge‘s energy, their hyper-positive vibe and their hyper-colored set are sure to put a smile on the faces of the audience, and it’s really good to see a band like this on a big stage, and to hear lyrics like Airhead resonating in an almost-full house! Honey Revenge are literally sweets, both artistically and humanly, as the duo can be found at their merch at the end of the evening, all smiles and very available. Can’t wait to see them again!
Now comes the long-awaited moment: Stand Atlantic‘s set! After an almost disastrous VIP (it has to be said), the Australians take to the stage with the intro to their latest album, WAKE UP-SIT DOWN-SHUT UP, shortened for the occasion. As usual, Stand Atlantic play in front of an enthusiastic crowd, whether it’s for older tracks such as hair out, which follows, or more recent ones such as KISSIN’KILLER COBRAS. The band are here to present their new album, released just a few weeks before the tour, and needless to say, the tracks on WAS HERE are bangers both in the studio and in their live versions. Bonnie Fraser (vocals/guitar) takes to the stage many times to thank the audience for coming to their biggest London show to date, but she’s also very teasing with the band members and punctuates the show with a few touches of humor, notably when her acoustic guitar seems to have dropped her before Toothpick. But the highlight of the evening was THE feat on NOSE BLEED, originally with Sueco, and tonight it was Patty Walters from As It Is, whose recent comeback with her original line-up was one of the best pieces of news of 2024. Patty is always something on stage, and here again her energy breathed new life into the song. Deathwish brought the set to a close, this time featuring Holly Minto from Crawlers on the original duet with nothing,nowhere, before a top-quality encore!
Indeed, Stand Atlantic haven’t forgotten their OG Fans (like me) and it’s Coffee At Midnight, taken from their first EP, that will resonate in the Electric Brixton, a pleasant surprise since the track wasn’t played during their tour with Waterparks, as if you had to wait for the Headline shows to get older tracks, but the show is really coming to an end with GIRL$ this time it’s Devin from Honey Revenge who joins Bonnie for the last featuring of the evening. A great conclusion to an evening that didn’t look so good from the start! I can’t recommend Stand Atlantic enough: they’re one of the best bands on the Pop-Punk scene right now!
