The Browning est de retour avec un nouvel album : OMNI. Ce dernier a été mixé, masterisé et produit par Jonny McBee et la pochette est de Artmorfate. Cet opus est disponible depuis le 8 novembre, via FiXT Music.
Ce nouvel opus débute avec Wake Up et on comprend rapidement le choix de ce titre. L’électro vient ouvrir le tout en douceur et petit à petit. Le morceau est assez court et celui-ci va exploser rapidement, passant à quelque chose de fort et de brut. Une belle mise en bouche. Le début de Hivemind reprend rapidement son nom et nous met dans l’ambiance. L’instrumentalité et le chant arrivent et cela lance réellement le titre, avec quelque chose de fort et où tout se mélange. Ce titre est assez rapide et surtout dynamique, on se prend rapidement au jeu. On y découvre un breakdown incroyable et qui instaure une tout autre ambiance, plus lente. Cela entre en dualité avec le refrain plus rapide et rentre dedans. La dernière partie nous offre ce qu’on peut qualifier de solo au niveau de l’électro qui est très efficace et permet de casser un peu les choses ainsi que d’ouvrir à une fin grandiose. Fed Up semble plus sérieux notamment par le fait que l’on prend notre temps. L’instrumentalité vient vite taper le tout et on découvre une belle alternance entre une ambiance lumineuse et un chant brut et grave. Le groupe va venir jouer sur le rythme et placer beaucoup de notes électro. L’arrivée du breakdown donne un nouveau souffle au titre et apporte encore plus de rapidité. The Browning nous offre un début d’album haletant et dynamique.

On continue notre écoute avec le premier featuring de l’album. C’est Nik Nocturnal qui est invité sur Misery.exe. L’électro ouvre le morceau tout en douceur, avant d’être rejoint par l’instrumentalité très rapide et un chant lourd. Une mélodie en clair se démarque quand même et c’est l’un des points que j’apprécie le plus. Il se passe beaucoup de choses ici, créant un bel univers. Je trouve que ce featuring colle parfaitement à ce que produit Nik Nocturnal et il s’intègre parfaitement ici. La fin vient nous surprendre une nouvelle fois et rehausse clairement le titre. Arrive le second featuring et c’est The Defect qui est invité cette fois-ci. OMNI est l’un de mes titres préférés de ce nouvel album. Il ouvre sur un chant clair et féminin qui donne une toute autre ambiance. L’instrumentalité nous transporte avant que tout ne change et arrive le chant grave et puissant. Les deux univers se mélangent et se complètent parfaitement. Ce morceau semble assez ouvert, oscillant entre passages très aériens et d’autres plus sombres. Un featuring efficace et qui est très bien mis en avant. Un beau breakdown vient clôturer la chose au milieu de passages atmosphériques assez forts. Deceiver à une introduction assez intime, on découvre une voix étrange qui prononce quelques mots en allemand. Les passages électro sont plus poussés, les différentes phrases en allemand donnent un charme différent. L’ensemble semble un peu décousu à certains moments, mais cela apporte quelque chose de différent et les passages plus rentre dedans, ainsi que la bonne énergie globale impacte l’ensemble.
Apollo commence avec quelque chose de doux, mais cela va être de courte durée. L’instrumentalité est forte et le chant vient toujours plus pousser la chose. Il nous montre d’ailleurs une belle palette vocale et va alterner entre des passages tendres et presque atmosphériques avec les passages bruts et dynamiques habituels. Ce titre est court, mais il est réellement intense. Dès les premières secondes de Poison, on sait que le titre nous réserve quelque chose de lourd. Le chant est agressif, semblant créer une spirale sans fin, l’électro nous surprend à son arrivée et casse l’ambiance pour mieux la relancer. Les deux genres viennent s’entremêler, la guitare s’impose au-dessus et apporte une violence nouvelle. Beaucoup de changements de rythmes ici et une fin lente mais totalement grandiose. Come to grips with Dead and the End est très court. Nous entendons une voix, seule, parlant et prenant tout son temps. Quelques notes électro viennent la rejoindre ainsi qu’une sorte de chœur, assez discret en fond. Étrange et captivant. Arrive le dernier titre : Soul Drift. L’électro, très rapide, vient donner directement le ton. Le chant semble donner tout ce qu’il a et fait accélérer l’ensemble. La surprise arrive avec le chant clair, qui apporte de la douceur et une certaine luminosité. Le chant grave est plus lent et long et l’alternance des deux procure un sentiment nouveau à l’écoute. Le groupe nous surprend une dernière fois avec ses différentes facettes.
The Browning nous dévoile un nouvel album dans la lignée de ce qu’ils nous propose habituellement. Les titres sont toujours aussi dynamiques et percutants, la prouesse vocale est impressionnante et cet album se hisse facilement en haut de mon top de l’année 2024.

This new opus begins with Wake Up and we quickly understand the choice of this title. The electro opens everything gently and little by little. The song is quite short and it will explode quickly, moving on to something strong and raw. A nice appetizer. The beginning of Hivemind quickly takes its name and puts us in the mood. The instrumentality and the singing arrive and it really launches the title, with something strong and where everything mixes. This title is quite fast and especially dynamic, we quickly get into the game. We discover an incredible breakdown which establishes a completely different atmosphere, slower. It enters into duality with the faster chorus and gets into it. The last part offers us what we can call a solo in terms of electro which is very effective and allows us to break things up a little as well as to open up to a grandiose ending. Fed Up seems more serious in particular because we take our time. The instrumentality quickly hits the whole thing and we discover a beautiful alternation between a bright atmosphere and a raw and serious song. The group will come to play on the rhythm and place a lot of electro notes. The arrival of the breakdown gives a new breath to the title and brings even more speed. The Browning offers us a breathtaking and dynamic start to the album.

We continue our listening with the first featuring of the album. Nik Nocturnal is invited on Misery.exe. The electro opens the song very gently, before being joined by the very fast instrumentality and heavy vocals. A clear melody still stands out and it is one of the points that I appreciate the most. A lot of things happen here, creating a beautiful universe. I find that this featuring fits perfectly with what Nik Nocturnal produces and it fits perfectly here. The end comes to surprise us once again and clearly enhances the title. The second featuring arrives and it is The Defect who is invited this time. OMNI is one of my favorite tracks of this new album. It opens with a clear and feminine vocal that gives a completely different atmosphere. The instrumentality transports us before everything changes and the deep and powerful vocals arrive. The two universes mix and complement each other perfectly. This song seems quite open, oscillating between very airy passages and others darker. An effective featuring that is very well highlighted. A beautiful breakdown closes the thing in the middle of quite strong atmospheric passages. Deceiver has a rather intimate introduction, we discover a strange voice that pronounces a few words in German. The electro passages are more advanced, the different phrases in German give a different charm. The whole seems a little disjointed at times, but it brings something different and the more in-your-face passages, as well as the good overall energy impacts the whole.
Apollo starts with something soft, but it will be short-lived. The instrumentality is strong and the singing always pushes the thing further. He also shows us a beautiful vocal range and will alternate between tender and almost atmospheric passages with the usual raw and dynamic passages. This title is short, but it is really intense. From the first seconds of Poison, we know that the title has something heavy in store for us. The singing is aggressive, seeming to create an endless spiral, the electro surprises us on its arrival and breaks the atmosphere to better relaunch it. The two genres come to intermingle, the guitar imposes itself above and brings a new violence. Many changes of rhythm here and a slow but totally grandiose ending. Come to grips with Dead and the End is very short. We hear a voice, alone, speaking and taking all its time. A few electro notes join it as well as a sort of choir, quite discreet in the background. Strange and captivating. The last title arrives: Soul Drift. The electro, very fast, comes to set the tone directly. The singing seems to give everything it has and makes the whole thing accelerate. The surprise comes with the clear singing, which brings softness and a certain luminosity. The serious singing is slower and longer and the alternation of the two gives a new feeling to the listening. The group surprises us one last time with its different facets.
The Browning unveils a new album in line with what they usually offer us. The tracks are still as dynamic and punchy, the vocal prowess is impressive and this album easily rises to the top of my top of the year 2024.
