[English below] Près d’un an après son dernier passage dans la capitale One Ok Rock revenait dans nos contrées à l’occasion d’une tournée mondiale intitulée Premonition Tour. C’est sans première partie que le groupe de rock japonais annonçait sa venue et autant le dire : les places se sont vendues très vite ! Les fans toujours au rendez-vous étaient présents et nous aussi. (Et merci à Lily de That Boring Show pour les photos)
C’est sous une pluie battante que la queue devant le Zénith de la Villette commençait très tôt en ce 7 octobre. En effet plus d’une centaine de fans étaient présents ce lundi avant midi et ce pour un concert annoncé à 20h00. L’occasion pour les fans de mettre en place des fan project et vous verrez que l’effet était très réussi. Aux alentours de 15h00 la salle met en place la possibilité d’aller acheter du merch de la tournée dans un stand placé à l’extérieur ce qui était plutôt pratique au final, pas de queue gigantesque avant le concert une fois entré à l’intérieur !
Les fans ayant pris des ticket early access rentreront à 17h30 contre une ouverture des portes à 18h30 pour le reste du public. L’attente devient interminable une fois entré dans le Zénith qui se rempli peu à peu. Ce soir ce sera la troisième fois que les japonais joueront dans cette salle mais ce sera seulement la première fois qu’ils auront réussi à vendre tout les tickets ! Une belle réussite pour One Ok Rock et la preuve qu’avec de la persistance tout est possible !
C’est un poil en retard – il est 20h15 – que le show commence avec une vidéo projetée sur l’écran géant de la scène et qui explique que le groupe arrive à un virage dans sa carrière où il a envie de se renouveler. Peu après arrivent sur scène les musiciens : Tomoya Kanki (batteur) suivi de près par Toru Yamashita (guitariste et leader de la formation) et Ryota Kohama (bassiste).
Takahiro Morita (chanteur) arrive peu après sur les planches du Zénith. Il porte alors un masque à gaz qu’il lance peu après son arrivée sur scène et salue le public : le concert peut commencer !
Delusion:All sera le premier morceau joué par les japonais ce soir. On retrouve la voix cristalline de Taka et l’instru très rock propre au groupe ! C’est Deeper Deeper qui suit juste derrière sans marquer de grande pause et le public part au quart de tour quand les premières notes à la basse sont jouées par Ryota. Ce titre qui date pourtant de 2013 ravie particulièrement les fans les plus anciens. One ok rock prend néanmoins toujours beaucoup de plaisir à jouer ce son et Taka, Toru et Ryota finissent le morceau autour de Tomoya à la batterie, tout les quatre headbang ensemble sur scène.
Pendant un changement rapide de guitare et basse Taka prend la parole rapidement pour saluer les fans : « We are one ok rock, that’s beautiful tonight (en regardant la salle entièrement remplie), can you jump please this next one is called taking off ! » Le show se poursuit donc par un titre de l’album Ambitions sorti en 2017.
Save yourself est lancée sans pause directement après. Dès les premières paroles on entends presque plus le public que Taka lui même et on note que ce soir toutes les chansons sont en version japonaise comme l’année précédente à l’Élysée Montmartre. Une décision qui semble faire l’unanimité chez les fans.
Il est désormais temps pour le groupe de discuter un peu avec ses fans et nous assistons à une pause où chacun des membres de la formation prend la parole à son tour. Les japonais ont, une fois de plus révisé quelques phrases en français et cela fait toujours son petit effet dans le public ! Toru, leader du groupe, commence en remerciant le public et suit avec un : « Vous êtes content? Je vous adore! Merci Paris!!! » Ryota, quant à lui sera le seul à ne parler qu’en anglais ce soir : » Are you guys having fun ? I having so much fun I never dreamt of playing for that much people in Europe ! How many people here like one ok rock ? » qui déclenche évidement le hurlement des fans dans la salle. Tomoya hurle un « comment ça va ?? » et poursuit avec un « Je suis super content d’être là, je vous adore tous, merci beaucoup, vous êtes prêt ? » Taka quant à lui remercie le public et souligne le fait que le Zénith est sold out ce soir pour la première fois depuis qu’ils y jouent. « Please sing as hard as you can, let’s go crazy Paris »
Vandalize est lancé derrière à la gratte pendant la fin du speech. Taka enchaîne avec le chant et la foule part en délire sur ce son très catchy qui a notamment été utilisé pour le dernier jeu Sonic Frontier.
Sur la basse très présente du début de Make it out alive le public tape dans ses mains en rythme, les quatre membres de One ok rock sont tout contents et sourient devant tant de réactivité de la part de leurs fans. Taka invite les fans a headbang avec lui en choeur sur l’espèce de break vers la fin du morceau.
Renegades écrite par Ed Sheeran débute derrière. Un son plus calme derrière le titre précédent définitivement plus rock mais les fans sont contents et chantent tranquillement avec Taka avant d’hurler les paroles sur le refrain. Les lumières des téléphones apparaissent de part et d’autres du Zénith sans demande du groupe, du plus bel effet quand cela vient du public.
Toru prend sa guitare acoustique et c’est la hype dans toute la salle, les fameux wowowowo français retentissent. Taka fait la remarque sur les claquements de pieds au sol qui donnent l’effet d’une grosse caisse retentissant dans toute la salle. Il prend la parole pour souligner que One ok rock adore Paris, en particulier la culture française et spécialement le vin. Ils sont toujours heureux de revenir pour l’amour qu’ils reçoivent à chaque fois. Ils remercient le public pour toutes ces années de soutien à One ok rock. En effet le groupe a 20 ans maintenant, cela fait 10 ans qu’ils passent en Europe et la première date à l’étranger de toute leur carrière était en France. Les japonais disent vouloir définitivement venir plus souvent !
À ce moment là Tomoya et Ryota, batteur et bassiste de la formation quittent discrètement la scène du Zenith. Toru prend sa guitare accoustique et s’assoit dans un coin pour jouer Wherever you are. Il s’agit là d’une musique écrite il y a des années et qui date de l’album Niche Syndrome (2010). Le public acclame la performance et pendant la séance on aura vu beaucoup de monde verser des larmes sous l’émotion.
La session acoustique se poursuit plus ou moins avec Take what you want. Un début avec seulement la voix de Taka très émotif et en lenteur comme il le fait au Japon. Un silence respecté par les fans ce soir. Taka enchaîne avec les paroles énervées de cette musique qui parle d’une rupture et qu’il a l’air de prendre très à coeur. Tomoya et Ryota sont, entre temps, revenus sur scène à partir du premier refrain.
À la fin une courte vidéo est alors sur le grand écran en fond et on y voit des petits personnages qui représentent les membres du groupe en version chibi. Taka reprend la parole pour de nouveau remercier le public. Il explique qu’il vit à Los Angeles où il a une maison et que s’il devait en acheter une nouvelle ce serait en France, c’est un rêve qu’il a toujours eu. Toru parle de sa visite au Louvres, c’était sa première fois et c’était immense il a adoré. Taka reprend la parole pour dire qu’ils kiffent le vin : « playing the show, drink wine and fuck up » sera la conclusion de cette petite pause pendant laquelle le public aura beaucoup ri.
Le groupe enchaîne sur un passage instrumental comme ils ont l’habitude de
faire sur leurs gros lives au Japon. Les trois instrumentalistes s’amusent et font preuve de technique : Toru se lance dans des solo avec du swipe, la basse archi présente de Ryota qui joue aux doigts et qui poursuit sur un solo lui aussi. C’est ensuite au tour de Tomoya d’être mis en valeur avec sa batterie. Tout les trois finissent sur une reprise qui comporte du djent. Un moment qui permet sûrement à Taka de reprendre son souffle et que tout les fans auront apprécié !
Le chanteur de la formation est de retour pour Prove, du dernier album Luxury Disease sorti en 2022. Neon lights est lancée sans interruption derrière : tous les téléphones des fans sont alors brandits avec des couleurs : il s’agit d’un fan projet organisé par One ok rock France salué par Taka « That’s beautiful ! »
Le set se poursuis avec l’iconique The Beginning de Jinsei Kakete Boku Wa (2013). Taka part alors à la rencontre du public ce qui provoque une euphorie générale dans la fosse.
Pendant Mighty long fall, titre lui aussi iconique de l’album XXXV (2015) Taka continue d’aller à la rencontre des fans, cette fois-ci dans les gradins. Il fini par retourner sur scène au niveau du catwalk en criant « Where is the fucking moshpit ? » et en effet il n’y en aura pas eu ce soir alors que le groupe a coutume d’en demander sur ce titre.
Stand out fit in suit derrière et on assiste à un changement complet d’ambiance. Le public saute en rythme pendant ce morceau plus joyeux ! Suite à cela le groupe quitte la scène en remerciant le public.
Le rappel sera de courte durée puisque les fans, très motivés, tapent des pieds et hurlent « ENCORE » tous en choeur. On assiste, sur les écran aux retours des mascottes à l’effigie des membres et qui motivent le public à redemander des chansons supplémentaires.
One ok rock est de retour sur scène avec sa nouvelle chanson qui n’a pas encore de nom. Ils l’avaient jouée pour la première fois au Japon sur la première date de la tournée. Les fans ont l’air d’apprécier cette nouveauté et arrivent à s’amuser malgré le fait qu’ils ne connaissent pas les paroles.
Il est cependant temps pour les japonais de clore leur set, avant cela Taka prend la parole pour annoncer la sortie prochaine de leur album pour lequel une tournée mondiale sera prévue. Il remercie encore et toujours ses fans pour leur soutien et leur présence ce soir : « we are the one, don’t forget about that« . Il prend également la parole en japonais et tient à peu près le même discours.
Wasted Night viens pour clôturer le set et les fans brandissent de nouveau leurs téléphones afin de réaliser un éclairage aux couleurs du drapeau français dans les gradins. La coordination est de mise pour les projets des fans et cela clôture le concert d’une très belle façon !
One ok rock remercie longuement ses fans à la fin du show et promet de revenir au plus vite. De notre côté nous avons hâte de revoir ce groupe de j-rock dans nos contrées ! Le concert a été à la hauteur de nos espérances. Si certains, dont nous à la rédaction, seront déçus que la setlist ai été modifiée pour l’Europe (ndlr elle fut différente en Asie avec notamment des sons beaucoup plus anciens tirés des premiers albums du groupe) One Ok Rock prouve encore une fois qu’ils sont un groupe taillé pour le live ! Nous avons, pour une fois, assisté à un concert avec des écrans et une vraie direction artistique qui allait jusqu’à des petits détails jusqu’à la batterie de Tomoya qui comporte des néons à l’intérieur des caisses. Nous avons hâte de voir ce que le groupe nous réserve donc avec l’album à venir !
[ENGLISH VERSION] Nearly a year after their last visit to the capital, One Ok Rock returned to our region for a world tour called Premonition Tour. The Japanese rock band announced their arrival without an opening act and it must be said: tickets sold out very quickly! The fans who were always there were there and so were we.
It was under pouring rain that the queue in front of the Zénith de la Villette started very early on October 7th. Indeed, more than a hundred fans were present on Monday before noon for a concert announced at 8:00 p.m. The opportunity for fans to set up fan projects and you will see that the effect was very successful. Around 3:00 p.m. the venue set up the possibility of buying tour merch in a stand placed outside which was rather practical in the end, no huge queue before the concert once inside!
Fans who bought early access tickets will enter at 5:30 pm while the doors open at 6:30 pm for the rest of the audience. The wait becomes interminable once you enter the Zénith which is gradually filling up. Tonight will be the third time that the Japanese will play in this venue but it will only be the first time that they have managed to sell all the tickets! A great success for One Ok Rock and proof that with persistence everything is possible!
It is a bit late – it is 8:15 pm – that the show begins with a video projected on the giant screen on stage and which explains that the group is reaching a turning point in its career where it wants to renew itself. Shortly after, the musicians arrive on stage: Tomoya Kanki (drummer) followed closely by Toru Yamashita (guitarist and leader of the band) and Ryota Kohama (bassist).
Takahiro Morita (singer) arrives shortly after on the stage of the Zénith. He then wears a gas mask that he throws shortly after arriving on stage and greets the audience: the concert can begin!
Delusion: All will be the first song played by the Japanese tonight. We find Taka‘s crystal clear voice and the very rock instrumental specific to the group! It is Deeper Deeper who follows just behind without taking a big break and the audience goes wild when the first notes on the bass are played by Ryota. This title which dates back to 2013 particularly delights the oldest fans. One ok rock nevertheless always takes great pleasure in playing this sound and Taka, Toru and Ryota finish the song around Tomoya on drums, all four of them headbanging together on stage.
During a quick change of guitar and bass Taka quickly speaks to greet the fans: « We are one ok rock, that’s beautiful tonight (looking at the completely filled room), can you jump please this next one is called taking off! » The show continues with a song from the album Ambitions released in 2017.
Save yourself is launched without a break directly after. From the first words we hear almost more the audience than Taka himself and we note that tonight all the songs are in Japanese version like the previous year at the Élysée Montmartre. A decision that seems to be unanimous among the fans.
It is now time for the group to chat a little with its fans and we attend a break where each member of the group speaks in turn. The Japanese have, once again revised a few sentences in French and that always has a little effect on the audience! Toru, leader of the group, begins by thanking the audience and follows with: « Are you happy? I love you! Thank you Paris!!! » Ryota, meanwhile, will be the only one speaking only in English tonight: « Are you guys having fun? I having so much fun I never dreamt of playing for that much people in Europe! How many people here like one ok rock? » which obviously triggers the screams of the fans in the room. Tomoya yells a « how are you?? » and continues with a « I’m super happy to be here, I love you all, thank you very much, are you ready? » Taka, meanwhile, thanks the audience and underlines the fact that the Zenith is sold out tonight for the first time since they’ve been playing there. « Please sing as hard as you can, let’s go crazy Paris »
Vandalize is launched behind on the guitar during the end of the speech. Taka continues with the song and the crowd goes wild on this very catchy sound which was notably used for the last Sonic Frontier game.
On the very present bass of the beginning of Make it out alive the audience claps their hands in rhythm, the four members of One ok rock are very happy and smile at so much reactivity from their fans. Taka invites the fans to headbang with him in unison on the kind of break towards the end of the song.
Renegades written by Ed Sheeran begins behind. A calmer sound behind the previous title definitely more rock but the fans are happy and sing quietly with Taka before shouting the lyrics on the chorus. The lights of the phones appear on both sides of the Zénith without the group’s request, with the most beautiful effect when it comes from the audience.
Toru takes his acoustic guitar and it’s hype throughout the room, the famous French wowowowo resound. Taka remarks on the tapping of feet on the ground which gives the effect of a bass drum resounding throughout the room. He speaks to emphasize that One ok rock loves Paris, especially French culture and especially for the wine. They are always happy to come back for the love they receive each time. They thank for all these years of support to One ok rock. Indeed the group is 20 years old now, they have been in Europe for 10 years and the first date abroad of their entire career was in France. The Japanese say they definitely want to come more often!
At that moment Tomoya and Ryota, the drummer and bassist of the band discreetly leave the Zenith stage. Toru takes his acoustic guitar and sits in a corner to play Wherever you are. This is a music written years ago and which dates from the album Niche Syndrome (2010). The audience cheers the performance and during the session we will have seen many people shed tears under the emotion.
The acoustic session continues more or less with Take what you want. A beginning with only Taka‘s voice, very emotional and slow as he does in Japan. A silence respected by the fans tonight. Taka continues with the angry lyrics of this music which talks about a breakup and which he seems to take very much to heart. Tomoya and Ryota have, in the meantime, returned to the stage from the first chorus. At the end a short video is then on the big screen in the background and we see small characters which represent the members of the group in chibi version. Taka takes the floor again to thank the audience again. He explains that he lives in Los Angeles where he has a house and that if he had to buy a new one it would be in France, it’s a dream he has always had. Toru talks about his visit to the Louvre, it was his first time and it was huge he loved it. Taka takes the floor again to say that they love wine: « playing the show, drink wine and fuck up » will be the conclusion of this little break during which the audience will have laughed a lot.
The group continues with an instrumental passage as they usually do on their big live in Japan. The three instrumentalists have fun and demonstrate their technique: Toru launches into solos with swipes, the very present bass of Ryota who plays with his fingers and who continues with a solo too. It is then Tomoya‘s turn to be highlighted with his drums. All three end with a cover that includes djent. A moment that surely allows Taka to catch his breath and that all the fans will have appreciated!
The singer of the band is back for Prove, from the latest album Luxury Disease released in 2022. Neon lights are launched without interruption behind: all the fans’ phones are then brandished with colors: it is a fan project organized by One ok rock France praised by Taka « That’s beautiful! »

During Mighty long fall, also an iconic title from the album XXXV (2015) Taka continues to meet the fans, this time in the stands. The encore will be short-lived since the fans, very motivated, stamp their feet and shout « ENCORE » all in unison. We witness, on the screens, the returns of the mascots in the image of the members and who motivate the audience to ask for more songs.
One ok rock is back on stage with its new song which does not yet have a name. They had played it for the first time in Japan on the first date of the tour. The fans seem to appreciate this novelty and manage to have fun despite the fact that they do not know the words.
However, it is time for the Japanese to close their set, before that Taka takes the floor to announce the upcoming release of their album for which a world tour will be planned. He thanks his fans again and again for their support and their presence tonight: « we are the one, don’t forget about that« . He also speaks in Japanese and gives pretty much the same speech.
Wasted Night comes to close the set and the fans brandish their phones again to create lighting in the colors of the French flag in the stands. Coordination is required for the fans’ projects and it ends the concert in a very beautiful way!
One ok rock thanks its fans at length at the end of the show and promises to come back as soon as possible. For our part, we can’t wait to see this j-rock group again in our countries! The concert lived up to our expectations. If some, including us at the editorial office, will be disappointed that the setlist was changed for Europe (editor’s note: it was different in Asia with much older sounds taken from the group’s first albums), One Ok Rock proves once again that they are a group made for live performance! For once, we attended a concert with screens and a real artistic direction that went down to small details, including Tomoya‘s drums which have neon lights inside the boxes. We can’t wait to see what the band has in store for us with the upcoming album!
