[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Le groupe canadien mené par Molly Rennick, Living Dead Girl , a sorti il y’a quelques jours un EP de reprises intitulé Not That Innocent (The Covers EP) via Buried Alive Records.Vu le titre de l’EP, certains se douteront au moins d’un des titres qui y figure.
La première cover n’est autre que le tube de Pink, Get The Party Started , reprise à la sauce Metalcore. Le refrain est un savant mélange de chant clair et de scream de la part de la chanteuse, scream qu’on retrouve également sur le deuxième couplet. La session instrumentale n’est clairement pas ce qui se démarque le plus sur ce premier morceau mais le tout reste quand même très efficace. C’est Oops! I Did It Again de la Queen Britney Spears qui est repris par la suite, ici c’est surtout sur le chant clair que l’accent est mis, là encore c’est une bonne reprise et la session rythmique notamment la batterie met un réel coup de boost à l’ensemble. Vous connaissez Hilary Duff? Ici c’est une reprise de son tube Come Clean qui est proposée par Living Dead Girl malheureusement pas la meilleure version que j’ai pu entendre, seule le final et le refrain sont vraiment bons pour moi…les effets sur la voix de Molly sur les couplets sont un peu de trop (enfin comme d’habitude ça ne reste que mon avis). Le groupe propose ensuite une cover du tube suprême de Avril Lavigne, Sk8er Boi , c’est probablement LA cover qu’on attendait tous de ce titre : ça scream, c’est catchy, le chant clair est excellent et les parties de guitares sont peut-être encore mieux que sur le titre original. Le dernier titre est également le seul à avoir été dévoilé par le groupe et il s’agit de Fighter à l’origine interprété par Christina Aguilera. Certes, la voix de Molly n’égalera probablement jamais celle de Christina mais elle se débrouille vraiment bien notamment au niveau du scream et cette version plus Metal est vraiment superbe et bien plus lourde, à coup sûr un morceau qui fera perdre des cervicales à quelques-uns dans les fosses en live.
Living Dead Girl est un groupe peu connu (voir clairement inconnu en France) et c’est bien dommage vu leur potentiel énorme. Cet EP qui fait suite à un premier album Exorcism sorti en 2021 est une bien belle réussite!
[ENGLISH VERSION] The Canadian band led by Molly Rennick, Living Dead Girl, has released a few days ago a covers EP entitled Not That Innocent (The Covers EP) via Buried Alive Records. According to the EP’s title, some will at least guess one of its tracks.
The first cover is none other than Pink’s hit song Get The Party Started in Metalcore style. The chorus is a clever mix of clean vocals and screaming from the singer, which is similar on the second verse. The instrumental section is clearly not what stands out the most on this first track but the whole thing is still very effective. Queen Britney Spears‘ Oops! I Did It Again is next, highlighting clean vocals, and it’s a good cover again. The rhythm session, especially drums, gives it a real boost. Do you know Hilary Duff? Here it’s a cover of her song Come Clean which is proposed by Living Dead Girl, unfortunately not the best version I’ve heard, only the final and the chorus are really good for me… the effects on Molly’s voice on verses are a bit too much (but as usual it’s only my opinion). The band then offers a cover of Avril Lavigne’s supreme hit, Sk8er Boi, which is probably THE cover we were all waiting for: we have screams, it’s catchy, clean vocals are excellent and guitar parts are maybe even better than on the original track. The last song is also the only one to have been unveiled by the band, Fighter, originally performed by Christina Aguilera. Molly’s voice will probably never match Christina’s, but she does really well with her screaming and this more Metal version is really great and much heavier, this song will definitely make some people lose their neck in the crowd.
Living Dead Girl is a little known band (clearly unknown in France) and it’s a shame because of their huge potential. This EP which follows a first album, Exorcism, released in 2021 is a great success!
