Le groupe de Heavy Mélodique grec Innerwish revient avec un sixième album studio Ash Of Eternal Flame, disponible à partir du 8 novembre 2024 par le label Reigning Phoenix Music.
Forevermore va ouvrir le bal à coups de riffs lourds, de tempo saccadé et avec une introduction avec chœurs absolument envoutants pour profiter d’une harmonie et entre beauté et lourdeur sans en faire de trop. Puis à l’opposé se trouve Sea Of Lies qui attaque un peu plus dans le dur avec une batterie plus frénétique tout en gardant la puissance du chant. Higher et Once Again sont un peu comme un mélange des deux précédentes avec tout les codes du Heavy et un soupçon de Mélodique.
Soul Asunder, Primal Scream, Cretan Warriors font prendre un virage plus sérieux avec du Heavy bien lourd comme on a l’habitude d’entendre : Une batterie bien lourde, des riffs qui n’en finissent plus, une basse qui vient soutenir tout ça et un chant éraillé comme on aime tant avec une belle touche de mélodie. Au tour du titre éponyme de ce nouvel opus, Ash Of Eternal Flame qui offre une magnifique harmonie entre la puissance du Metal et la beauté simple des chœurs permettant une pause de 7 minutes de pur délice. Si le côté mélodique vous intéresse plus The Hands Of Doom est exactement ce qu’il vous faut, notamment avec son break incroyable.
I Walk Alone nous permet d’avoir une chanson avec un rythme soutenu, une signature vocale classique du Metal qui va faire monter l’adrénaline pour la laisser se stabiliser avant d’exploser sans précédent pendant le solo. Breath vient apaiser la tension en offrant une chanson parfaite pour laisser redescendre l’adrénaline, prendre du recul et respirer un grand coup avec un bon titre dans les oreilles. Puis pour conclure cet album c’est une cover du groupe de Hard Rock Blackfoot qui s’en charge avec Send Me An Angel qui vient redonner un petit coup de neuf à ce titre sorti initialement en 1983, de la modernité sur nos vielles chanson pour nous les faire (re)découvrir sous un nouveau jour. Une belle conclusion qui est complémentaire avec le titre précédent.
Innerwish nous propose un album étonnant avec beaucoup de variantes autant dans l’écriture, l’interprétation, le choix de placement ou encore dans les émotions que l’on peut ressentir. Un album qui peut s’écouter aussi bien en écoute directe qu’en décousu et saura combler les besoins de votre mood actuel. Le petit plus est la reprise de Blackfoot qui m’a fait découvrir aussi bien l’original que la cover et pour le coup les deux vont rester dans ma mémoire pendant un moment.

The Greek heavy-melodic band Innerwish returns with a sixth studio album, Ash Of Eternal Flame, available from November 8, 2024, via the Reigning Phoenix Music label.
Forevermore opens the ball with heavy riffs, a jerky tempo and an absolutely bewitching introduction with choirs to enjoy the harmony between beauty and heaviness without overdoing it. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Sea Of Lies is a little more hard-hitting, with more frenetic drums and powerful vocals. Higher and Once Again are a kind of mix of the previous two, with all the codes of heavy music and a hint of melodic.
Soul Asunder, Primal Scream, Cretan Warriors take a more serious turn with the heavy heavy metal we’re used to hearing: heavy drums, never-ending riffs, supportive bass and the raspy vocals we love so much, with a touch of melody. Ash Of Eternal Flame, the eponymous track from this new opus, offers a magnificent harmony between the power of Metal and the simple beauty of the backing vocals, providing a 7-minute break of pure delight. If you’re more interested in the melodic side of things, The Hands Of Doom is exactly what you need, especially with its incredible break.
I Walk Alone gives us a song with a steady rhythm, a classic Metal vocal signature that gets the adrenalin flowing, then lets it level off before exploding in an unprecedented way during the solo. Breath eases the tension with a song that’s perfect for letting the adrenalin subside, taking a step back and taking a deep breath with a good song in your ears. The album concludes with a cover of hard rock band Blackfoot‘s Send Me An Angel, a song originally released in 1983 that’s been given a new lease of life, bringing modernity to our old songs and allowing us to (re)discover them in a new light. A fine conclusion that complements the previous track.
Innerwish offers us an astonishing album with many variations in writing, interpretation, choice of placement and emotions. It’s an album that can be listened to directly or as a disconnected track, and will satisfy the needs of your current mood. The little extra is the Blackfoot cover, which made me discover both the original and the cover, and both will remain in my memory for a long time to come.
