HATEBREED : Fatal Paradox [FR/EN]

[ENGLISH VERSION] Six years after *Weight Of The False Self*, the wait seemed to drag on without any new music from Hatebreed, but the band had faced some setbacks—both medical and artistic (or rather, professional challenges that undoubtedly affected their personal lives as well), signed with the BLKIIBLK label in June, and treated us to an exceptional set at this year’s Hellfest to announce their ninth studio album, *Fatal Paradox*, set for release on November 6!

And the opener is none other than the single “Kill Count Increase”,the cutting riffs are back, and Jamey Jasta’s aggressive vocals transport us back to their familiar, almost comforting hardcore sound, with the kind of chorus we’ll love to belt out at the top of our lungs along with the band during their next live show in our area. The kind of intro that’ll make you want to throw caution to the wind continues with “The Carrion Choir,” which is literally a banger! With a super-heavy chorus chanting “Remember Who You Are,” this new track is sure to become one of the band’s new anthems,we’re definitely sold on it here. The mosh parts come one after another, and we get another little jolt every time. “Decisions Become Destinies” keeps the momentum going with heavy bass lines, riffs that’ll drive you crazy, a frenzied rhythm section, and lyrics that blow your mind every time, Hatebreed stays true to form, and thankfully so. “Total Invincible” stays in the same vein and will make some people want to try the “Pit of Hell,” which is what always happens at Hatebreed concerts (with their “Ball of Death”). Energy and heaviness are the two watchwords for the eponymous “Fatal Paradox,” and suffice it to say that here, too, it’s a real treat,we start with a warm-up and end with “Karate Brawl,” before “Still A Threat” comes crashing down on us with its pure, raw aggression and choruses that’ll make you want to sing along right away!

The album’s only featured track is with John Tardy of Obituary, « Sacrifice Season »; the opening riffs hit us with heavy riffs, and Jasta’s voice suddenly pierces the silence. Obituary’s vocalist quickly takes over, and the two frontmen respond to each other so naturally that this new track is one of the standout tracks on this new album! “Make The Demons Obey” was chosen as the first promotional single—and what a wise choice! This track alone perfectly encapsulates everything that defines the essence and sound of Hatebreed. “None Left To Save” is the longest track in the band’s history at 6:35; you could almost break it down into two parts—one more focused on the vocals and the second, much heavier, centered solely on the instrumentation. It might not have been the most practical move, but then again, why not? The final track is a cover of COC’s “Poison Planet”, simple and very effective; no need to go overboard for a quick finale.

Hatebreed is finally back with a new album that’s well worth it! Time passes, trends and the world change, but Hatebreed will undoubtedly always be Hatebreed, and with every album, they let us rediscover something familiar,in fact, listening to Hatebreed is a bit like coming home after being away for too long!
