[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Six ans après Gastir-Ghosts Invited, Gaahl (ancien Gorgoroth, ancien God Seed) est de retour avec son projet Gaahls Wyrd depuis quelques jours (6 juin 2025) et un deuxième album, Braiding the Stories sorti via Season Of Mist!
L’album débute avec un morceau introductif The Dream, sur un instrumental apaisant et sans fioritures, on retrouve la voix calme de Gaahl avant de laisser place à quelque chose de plus vif sur le single qui donne également son nom à l’album, Braiding the Stories! Le vocaliste propose toujours un chant clair, presque empli de mysticisme et qui reste très envoûtant, le Black Metal semble bien loin sur ce nouvel album et le groupe nous propose plutôt quelque chose de Progressif ce qui reste intéressant à écouter mais pourrait en décevoir certains! Les passages instrumentaux sont d’ailleurs prépondérants laissant de longues pauses à la voix pour installer une ambiance bien particulière qui finira par se saturer avec les riffs de guitares plus présents. Voices In My Head revient à ce que pouvait proposer The Dream, un morceau assez simple et contemplatif mais qui semble aussi lugubre avant le single Time And Timeless Timeline qui revient à quelque chose de plus brut et de plus Black Metal surtout dans l’instrumental car la voix du chanteur est toujours aussi calme proposant quand même quelques vocalises presque effrayantes. And The Now continue sur une lancée d’ambiances vaporeuses et mystiques, une composition qui pourrait se rapprocher de l’univers de Wardruna dont Gaahl a déjà fait partie par le passé!
Through The Veil est un morceau troublant et très court un peu comme Voices ou The Dream avant Visions and Time. Avec une instrumentale aussi brute que dissonante et violente avec des parties vocales plus torturées qui viennent se superposer au chant très calme et serein du frontman. On arrive déjà à l’avant-dernier morceau Root the Will, un morceau un peu plus intense et plus fort, la voix de Gaahl évolue dans des ambiances très différentes et le chanteur nous propose diverses tonalités de sa palette vocale qu’on apprend à apprécier avec ce morceau et le voyage s’arrête avec Flowing Starlight plus orientée Post-Metal et cette voix qui nous fait voyager dans son monde sur des notes plus douces et cristallines avant la fin tout simplement, une très belle façon de conclure un album!
Ici point de TRVE Black Metal, de légères influences se greffent tout de même à la beauté des compositions de Gaahls Wyrd qui propose un voyage aérien, épuré et mystique à ses auditeurs. Une bien belle réussite!

[ENGLISH VERSION] Six years after Gastir-Ghosts Invited, Gaahl (formerly of Gorgoroth and God Seed) is back with his Gaahls Wyrd project, which was released a few days ago (June 6, 2025), and a second album, Braiding the Stories, released via Season Of Mist!
The album begins with an introductory track, The Dream, featuring soothing, unadorned instrumentation and Gaahl‘s calm voice, before giving way to something more lively on the single that also gives the album its name, Braiding the Stories! The vocalist still offers clear vocals, almost filled with mysticism and remaining very captivating. Black Metal seems far away on this new album, and the band offers us something more progressive, which is interesting to listen to but may disappoint some! The instrumental passages are predominant, leaving long pauses for the vocals to create a very special atmosphere that eventually becomes saturated with more prominent guitar riffs. Voices In My Head returns to what The Dream had to offer, a fairly simple and contemplative track that also seems gloomy before the single Time And Timeless Timeline, which returns to something more raw and Black Metal, especially in the instrumental, as the singer’s voice is still as calm as ever, offering a few almost frightening vocalizations. And The Now continues in the same vein of vaporous and mystical atmospheres, a composition that could be compared to the universe of Wardruna, of which Gaahl was a member in the past!
Through The Veil is a disturbing and very short track, a bit like Voice or The Dream before Visions and Time. With an instrumental that is as raw as it is dissonant and violent, with more tortured vocal parts that overlap with the frontman’s very calm and serene singing. We’ve already reached the penultimate track, Root the Will, a slightly more intense and stronger track, Gaahl‘s voice evolves in very different atmospheres, and the singer offers us various tones from his vocal palette that we learn to appreciate with this track. The journey ends with Flowing Starlight, which is Post-Metal oriented, and this voice that takes us on a journey into his world on softer and more crystalline notes before the end, quite simply a very beautiful way to conclude an album!
There is no TRVE Black Metal here; slight influences are grafted onto the beauty of Gaahls Wyrd‘s compositions, which offer listeners an ethereal, refined, and mystical journey. A very fine achievement!
