[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] A moins d’avoir vécu dans une grotte les quatre dernières années, tout amateur de Metal Extreme/Grindcore/Hardcore a forcément entendu parler de Escuela Grind, le quatuor originaire du Massachusetts. Le groupe s’apprête d’ailleurs à sortir son troisième album studio ce vendredi 18 octobre prochain, Dreams On Algorithms, via MNRK Heavy.
Et c’est avec D.O.A (Dreams On Algorithms en abrégé) que Escuela Grind va ouvrir le bal. Une rythmique qui fera mouche dans un pit autant parmi les moshers que ceux qui préfèrent hedbanger et toujours la voix de Katerina Economou qui finira d’achever tout ce beau monde et donnera envie à tout un chacun d’hurler avec elle. Le single Always Watching You a squatté nos playlist dès sa sortie est un morceau d’utilité publique puisqu’il évoque le cyberharcèlement et la pression exercée par les réseaux sociaux, des choses contre lesquelles certaines personnes se battent au quotidien et Escuela Grind apporte ici sa pierre à l’édifice avec autant de sauvagerie que possible. Constant Passenger va changer la donne niveau chant proposant quelque chose de plus Death Metal (on ose même se demander si Katerina est à l’origine de ce chant) , le titre reste toujours aussi ravageur. Concept Of God renoue avec les mosh-part plus groovy tout en scandant que le concept de Dieu a été inventé par les humains, le groupe semble nous dire que les plus religieux ont crée un dogme spécial dans lequel ils s’enferment.
En soit chaque morceau de ce nouvel album est un brûlot Grindcore tout en gardant les mosh part ravageuses et des riffs de guitare incisifs plus Hardcore (et parfois des influences plus Death Metal) rien de très nouveau sous le soleil donc mais quand c’est bien fait, autant en parler! Sur Animus Multiform ce sont les parties de guitares de Kris Morash qui vont sortir du lot tandis que sur tout les autres titres ce qui le plus frapper restent bien sûr le chant et la rythmique infernale de Jesse Fuentes. Planned Obsolescence risque de faire « danser » les fosses avec son groove indéniable et son rythme à contre-temps. Le single Toothless finira d’achever avec son côté très pesant tandis que Turbulence va clore ce nouvel album , un morceau plus novateur sur lequel Katerina va dévoiler son chant clair tout en gardant sa sauvagerie intacte.
En résumé, Escuela Grind c’est probablement assez simple mais toujours aussi sauvage et brutal tout en proposant quelque chose de nouveau sur le dernier titre. Prêts pour un troisième impact?

[ENGLISH VERSION] Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the past four years, any fan of Extreme/Grindcore/Hardcore metal is bound to have heard of Massachusetts quartet Escuela Grind. The band is set to release its third studio album, Dreams On Algorithms, this Friday, October 18, via MNRK Heavy.
And it’s with D.O.A (Dreams On Algorithms for short) that Escuela Grind will open the ball. A rhythm that’s sure to be a hit with moshers and hedbangers alike, and Katerina Economou‘s voice will finish everyone off and make everyone want to scream along with her. The single Always Watching You, which took over our playlists as soon as it was released, is a song of public utility, since it evokes cyber-harassment and the pressure exerted by social networks, things that some people fight against on a daily basis, and Escuela Grind brings its contribution here with as much savagery as possible. Constant Passenger changes things up, with a more death-metal feel to the vocals (we dare to wonder whether Katerina is behind the song), but the track remains as devastating as ever. Concept Of God returns to the groovier mosh-pits, chanting that the concept of God was invented by humans, the band seeming to tell us that the most religious have created a special dogma in which they lock themselves.
In short, every track on this new album is a Grindcore firebrand, while retaining the devastating mosh parts and incisive guitar riffs more Hardcore (and sometimes more Death Metal influences), so there’s nothing new under the sun, but when it’s well done, we might as well talk about it! On Animus Multiform, it’s Kris Morash‘s guitar parts that really stand out, while on all the other tracks, Jesse Fuentes‘s vocals and infernal rhythm are the most striking. Planned Obsolescence, with its undeniable groove and up-tempo rhythm, is sure to get the pits dancing. The single Toothless finishes things off with a heavy edge, while Turbulence brings the album to a close with a more innovative track on which Katerina reveals her clear vocals while keeping her savagery intact.
To sum up, Escuela Grind is probably quite simple, but as wild and brutal as ever, while offering something new on the final track. Ready for a third impact?
