Ce soir, on se retrouve à La Boule Noire pour l’étape française de la tournée européenne de Cassyette. Elle est accompagnée par trois groupes : Filthy Pig, un DJ anglais, Harpy, une sublime maman métalleuse gothique comme elle se nomme elle-même, et Witch Fever, un groupe d’inspiration riot grrrl doom-punk.
On commence la soirée avec Filthy Pig, et quelle mise en bouche ! Le set débute à l’heure pile, à 19h15. Cinq personnes vêtues de capuches intégrales montent sur scène et prennent place stoïquement autour. À ce moment-là, on se demande ce qui va se passer… Le DJ anglais apparaît portant un masque de cochon et commence à mixer immédiatement.
Après le choc initial de voir six personnes masquées sur scène, la foule se met immédiatement dans l’ambiance pétillante que Filthy Pig instaure. On entend des samples de classiques du rock/métal tel que Limp Bizkit, Foo Fighters et Bring Me The Horizon, mais aussi des samples de groupes de notoriété plus récente comme Sleep Token ou Bad Omens.
À la fin de son set, l’énergie de la foule est vraiment haute, et cette première ouverture donne vraiment le ton pour le reste du spectacle.
En deuxième partie, Harpy monte sur scène vêtue de latex noir de la tête aux pieds et d’un harnais. Elle commence son set avec ses chansons Swallow et Medecine, et l’ambiance est telle qu’on se croirait club, surtout après la performance de Filthy Pig.
La foule se balance et vibre sur la musique, pendant que Harpy chante de tout son cœur. La musique est absolument exaltante et lorsque Harpy réclame un Dance Pit à la foule (comme un groupe de métal demanderait un circle pit pour faire bouger les gens), cette dernière s’exécute avec empressement et joie.
Dans mes notes, j’ai écrit électro-féminisme et mélange pop rock pour décrire le style d’Harpy, elle-même décrit sa musique comme sombre, industrielle et pop gothique et je ne pense pas m’être trompé. C’est une découverte pour moi et j’adore (j’ai déja àjouté plusieurs de ses chansons à mes playlists), j’ai particulièrement aimé la chanson avec laquelle Harpy a clos son set, Slaughterhouse. Et une fois de plus, c’est une excellente mise en bouche pour la suite du menu de ce soir.
Le prochain set est celui de Witch Fever, on reste dans le même registre féminin avec ce groupe d’inspiration riot grrrl doom-punk. Composé de la chanteuse Amy, de la bassiste Alex, de la guitariste Alisha et de la batteuse Annabelle, ce groupe est une bombe d’énergie. Elles commencent le spectacle avec Blessed be thy, et je peux voir dans la foule une personne arborant la ligne rouge du menton d’Amy, donc je sais qu’ils ont des fans ici pour elles.
À la troisième chanson, Congregation, le public est conquis et Amy et cette fan ont un doux intime, chantant ensemble, main dans la main. Après ce moment doux, l’énergie remonte et on a un véritable mosh pit au milieu de la foule. Les gens qui moshent sourient et rient, et l’atmosphère est très bon enfant. Le groupe termine avec le titre Bully boy et quitte la scène pour laisser la place à Cassyette.
Le plat de résistance : Cassyette
Après une tournée en tant que première partie pour Bring Me The Horizon aux UK, Cassyette fait enfin une tournée en tête en Europe. La foule est très impatiente de voir Cassy Brooking aka Cassyette, monter sur scène et ça se ressent. Pendant que nous attendons, le mur derrière la scène s’anime avec des lumières et le logo de Cassyette apparaît dans une animation 3D. Après quelques minutes d’animation, le batteur et le guitariste, l’homme sous le masque de cochon de Filthy Pig, montent sur scène avec leurs instruments, suivis de Cassy.
La première chanson que Cassy chante pour nous est Degenerate Nation, et ça donne vraiment le ton pour le spectacle. Comme pour les artistes d’ouverture, l’énergie est extrêmement haute et pleine de peps. Cassy crée un lien avec son public dès le premier moment où elle monte sur scène. Nous avons eu l’occasion d’entendre les singles de son dernier EP Over It comme Ipecac, Why Am I like this, When she told me.
Pendant tout le set, Cassy prend réellement le temps de regarder dans les yeux de ses fans et elle donne le sentiment qu’elle ne chante que pour eux. C’est une performeuse incroyable, elle se déplace sur scène et veille à inclure toute la foule, elle entraîne également souvent le public à poggoter, danser et s’amuser.
Nous avons même eu le droit à un mur de câlins (après le dance pit) où la chanteuse demande à la salle de se diviser en deux, généralement, on pourrait penser qu’elle veut un death wall comme c’est habituellement le cas dans les concerts de métal, mais au lieu de se cogner sur les uns les autres, les gens se font des câlins. Le public apprécie le set, on peut voir sur les visages des sourires et des rires alors qu’ils dansent/moshent. Toutes les chansons sont chantées en chœur, sautées, dansées…
Après tant d’émotions, le concert se termine sur le titre phare de Cassyette, Dear Goth dans une ambiance endiablée et chaleureuse. Merci à Diane de chez AEG Presents France et à La Boule Noire pour l’accréditation et l’accueil chaleureux.

Tonight we meet at La Boule Noire for Cassyette french’s leg of her european tour. She is supported by three acts, Filthy Pig, an english dj, Harpy, a sublime goth metal mommy, Witch Fever, a doom-punk riot grrrl inspired band.
We’re starting the evening with Filthy Pig and what a mise en bouche. The set started promptly at 7:15pm, 5 persons wearing full faced hood came on stage and took place stoicly around the stage. At that point, we’re wondering what is about to start… The english DJ appeared wearing a pig mask and started mixing right away.
After the initial shock of seeing 6 masks persons on stage, the crowd immediately gets in the high energy mood that Filthy Pig is setting. We get to hear some classics metal samples like Limp Bizkit, Foo Fighters and Bring Me The Horizon but also samples from newer popular bands such as Sleep Token or Bad Omens.
At the end of his set, the crowd’s energy is really high, and this first opening really set the tone for the rest of the show.
Next up we get to see Harpy walk on stage all decked in black latex and harness. She starts her set with her songs Swallow and Medecine, and the atmosphere feels like a club, especially after Filthy Pig’s performance.
The crowd sways and vibes to the music, while Harpy sings her heart out. The music is really exhilarating and when Harpy demands a Dance Pit (like a metal band would ask for a circle pit to get people moving) to the crowd, they execute with haste and happiness.
In my notes, I wrote down electro-feminism and pop rock mix to describe Harpy’s style of music versus how she describes her music, dark, industrial, goth pop. I don’t think I was too far off. This is a discovery for me and I love it, I especially liked the song with which Harpy closed her set, Slaughterhouse. And once more, it’s a great appetizer for tonight’s menu.
The next set is Witch Fever, we stay on course with this doom-punk riot grrrl inspired band. Composed of singer Amy, bass player Alex, guitarist Alisha & drummer Annabelle, this band is energy in a bottle. They start the show with Blessed be thy, and I can see in the crowd a girl sporting Amy’s red chin line, so I know they have fans here for them.
By the third song, Congregation the public is conquered and Amy and that one fan have a sweet moment, singing together hand in hand. After this softer moment, the energy comes back up, and we get a full on mosh pit in the middle of the crowd. People moshing are smiling and laughing, and the atmosphere is very good-natured.
The band finishes with the track Bully boy and leaves the stage for Cassyette.
The crowd is very impatient for Cassyette, Cassy Brooking, to come on stage, you can feel it. While we wait, the wall behind the stage comes alive with lights and Cassyette’s logo appears in a 3D animation. After a couple of minute of the animation, the drummer and guitarist, the man under the Filthy Pig mask, get on stage with their instruments, followed by Cassy.
The first track Cassy sings for us is Degenerate Nation, and it really sets the tone for the show. Like for the opening artists, the energy is really high and full of peps. Cassy connects with her audience from the first moment she steps on stage.
We got to hear the singles from her last EP Over It like Ipecac, Why Am I like this, When she told me.
During the whole set, Cassy really takes care to look into her fan’s eyes, and they feel like she’s singing just for them. She is an incredible performer, and she moves around the stage and makes sure to include all the crowd, she also often leads the public to mosh and dance and have fun.
We even get a wall of hugs (after the dance pit) where the singer asks the room to split in the middle, usually you’d assume she wants a wall of death as is often the case in metal shows, but instead of bashing the s*** off of each other people hug one another. The public enjoy the set, you can see on the faces smiles and laughs as they dance/mosh. All the songs are sung along to, jumped to, danced to…
After so much emotions, the show ends, on Cassyette’s hit song Dear Goth, in a frenzied and warm atmosphere. Thank you to Diane from AEG Presents France and to La Boule Noire for the accreditation and the warm welcome.
