Le Main Square Festival, comme chaque année, a transformé la Citadelle d’Arras en un haut lieu de musique et de partage. Dès l’entrée, l’excitation était palpable. Les festivaliers, arborant des t-shirts de leurs groupes préférés et brandissant des pancartes colorées, étaient prêts à vivre une journée inoubliable. Pour cette 20eme édition, le Main Square nous propose une programmation plus qu’intéressante. On peut y retrouver des artistes rock/metal tels que Bring Me The Horizon, LANDMVRKS, The Warning, Nothing But Thieves et bien d’autres. Mais aujourd’hui nous ne parlerons que de ces artistes, n’étant malheureusement présent que le vendredi.
Cette journée commence très fort avec LANDMVRKS pour chauffer le public très tôt.
LANDMVRKS
Les festivités ont débuté avec LANDMVRKS, le groupe de metalcore marseillais qui a su captiver l’audience dès les premières notes. Leur énergie débordante et leurs riffs puissants ont rapidement mis le feu aux poudres. Le public, déjà survolté, a répondu avec des pogos et des headbangs frénétiques. LANDMVRKS a interprété des titres phares comme Lost in the Waves, Créature, Visage et Rainfall, prouvant une fois de plus pourquoi ils sont considérés comme l’une des figures montantes de la scène metal française. Malgré quelques problèmes techniques, LANDMVRKS ont su faire vibrer le public et proposer une performance explosive, montrant leur potentiel à devenir une potentielle tête d’affiche dans les prochaines années.
Il est maintenant temps de se diriger vers la Main Stage pour assister au show de Nothing but Thieves.
Nothing But Thieves
Le groupe britannique Nothing But Thieves a pris la relève, apportant une touche de rock alternatif qui a parfaitement complété l’ambiance électrique du festival. Leur setlist, mélangeant anciens succès et nouvelles chansons, a enchanté les fans. Le chanteur Conor Mason a livré une performance vocale impeccable, notamment sur des titres comme Amsterdam et Welcome to the DCC. La foule, réceptive et enthousiaste, a chanté en chœur, créant une atmosphère presque magique, bien qu’un peu plus fade à mon gout comparé à la puissance de la performance de LANDMVRKS juste avant.
De retour sur la deuxième scène pour découvrir The Warning, groupe que je connaissais pour. Un seul titre, S!CK.
The Warning
Le trio de soeurs mexicaines The Warning a fait une entrée remarquable sur scène. Avec une énergie brute et une présence scénique impressionnante, les trois sœurs ont rapidement conquis le cœur des festivaliers. Leurs morceaux ont résonné fortement à travers la Citadelle. Les titres S!CK et Hell You Call A Dream ont particulièrement mis en avant leurs talents de musiciens et leur cohésion en tant que groupe. The Warning a sans aucun doute marqué les esprits et gagné de nouveaux fans ce jour-là.
C’est maintenant après une longue attente avec le passage de deux rappeurs que vient le moment d’assister au montage de la scène de Bring Me The Horizon, rendant chaque minute d’attente replie d’impatience.
Bring Me The Horizon
C’est sans aucun doute Bring Me The Horizon qui était le groupe le plus attendu de la journée. Les heures précédant leur performance ont été marquées par une anticipation croissante. Les fans se sont pressés de plus en plus près de la scène principale, échangeant des histoires de concerts passés et spéculant sur la setlist de la soirée. L’excitation était à son comble, et chaque mouvement de l’équipe technique était surveillé de près par des milliers de regards impatients.
Lorsque Bring Me The Horizon a finalement pris possession de la scène après leur scène d’introduction aux style d’un jeu vidéo, la Citadelle a explosé en un tonnerre d’applaudissements et de cris. Le groupe a ouvert avec Darkside, et dès les premières notes, l’énergie de la foule a atteint son paroxysme. Oli Sykes, le charismatique chanteur, a su maintenir cette intensité tout au long de la performance, interagissant constamment avec le public en allant notamment faire des câlins au public durant Drown. Les effets visuels et pyrotechniques qui évoluent chaque année ont ajouté une dimension spectaculaire au show, rendant chaque morceau encore plus mémorable.
Des classiques comme Shadow Moses et Parasite Eve ont provoqué des vagues de mouvements dans la foule, tandis que des titres plus récents comme Kool-Aid, Top 10 staTues tHat CriEd bloOd ou LosT ont montré l’évolution musicale du groupe. Le point culminant de la soirée a été l’exécution de Doomed, (un grand retour cette année après une absence dans les setlist depuis 2019), où toute la Citadelle semblait chanter en unisson, créant un moment de pure émotion entre le groupe et le public. Après un rappel, BMTH terminent leur set avec Doomed, Lost et Throne armé d’une pyrotechnie impressionnante, et clôturant le show en beauté en promettant devenir en France très prochainement, peut être avec une tournée européenne en 2025, qui sait.
Le Main Square Festival 2024 restera gravé dans les mémoires comme une édition particulièrement réussie, avec des performances mémorables et une ambiance indescriptible. LANDMVRKS, Nothing But Thieves, The Warning et surtout Bring Me The Horizon ont su transformer cette journée en une véritable fête de la musique, laissant les festivaliers repartir avec des souvenirs impérissables et une seule envie : revenir l’année prochaine.

The Main Square Festival, as every year, transformed the Citadel of Arras into a mecca of music and sharing. From the entrance, the excitement was palpable. Festivalgoers, sporting t-shirts from their favourite bands and holding colourful signs, were ready for an unforgettable day. For this 20th edition, the Main Square offers a very interesting program. You can find rock/metal artists such as Bring Me The Horizon, LANDMVRKS, The Warning, Nothing But Thieves and many others. But today we will only talk about these artists, unfortunately being present only on Friday.
This day starts very strong with LANDMVRKS to warm the public very early.
LANDMVRKS
The festivities began with LANDMVRKS, the Marseille metalcore group that captivated the audience from the first notes. Their boundless energy and powerful riffs quickly ignited the powders. The audience, already excited, responded with frenetic pogos and headbangs. LANDMVRKS has performed flagship titles like Lost in the Waves, Créature, Visage and Rainfall, proving once again why they are considered one of the rising figures of the French metal scene. Despite some technical problems, LANDMVRKS was able to thrill the public and offer an explosive performance, showing their potential to become a potential headliner in the coming years.
It is now time to head to the Main Stage to attend the Nothing but Thieves show.
Nothing But Thieves
The British band Nothing But Thieves took over, bringing a touch of alternative rock that perfectly complemented the electric atmosphere of the festival. Their setlist, mixing old hits and new songs, delighted the fans. Singer Conor Mason delivered an impeccable vocal performance, especially on tracks like Amsterdam and Welcome to the DCC. The crowd, receptive and enthusiastic, sang in chorus, creating an almost magical atmosphere, although a little more bland to my taste compared to the power of the LANDMVRKS performance just before.
Back on the second stage to discover The Warning, a band I knew for. Only one track, S!CK.
The Warning
The trio of Mexican sisters The Warning made a remarkable entrance on stage. With a raw energy and an impressive stage presence, the three sisters quickly conquered the hearts of festival-goers. Their songs resonated strongly throughout the Citadel. The tracks S!CK and Hell You Call A Dream have particularly highlighted their musical talents and cohesion as a group. The Warning undoubtedly made an impression and gained new fans that day.
It is now after a long wait with the passage of two rappers that comes the time to attend the editing of the scene of Bring Me The Horizon, making every minute of waiting retreat of impatience.
Bring Me The Horizon
Bring Me The Horizon was undoubtedly the most anticipated band of the day. The hours before their performance were marked by increasing anticipation. Fans flocked closer and closer to the main stage, exchanging stories of past concerts and speculating on the evening’s setlist. The excitement was at its peak, and every move of the technical team was closely watched by thousands of impatient glances.
When Bring Me The Horizon finally took possession of the scene after their introduction to the style of a video game, the Citadel exploded in a thunder of applause and screams. The band opened with Darkside, and from the first notes, the energy of the crowd reached its climax. Oli Sykes, the charismatic singer, was able to maintain this intensity throughout the performance, constantly interacting with the public by going to hug the public during Drown. The visual and pyrotechnic effects that evolve each year have added a spectacular dimension to the show, making each track even more memorable.
Classics like Shadow Moses and Parasite Eve caused waves of movement in the crowd, while more recent titles like Kool-Aid, Top 10 staTues tHat CriEd bloOd or LosT showed the band’s musical evolution. The highlight of the evening was the performance of Doomed, (a big comeback this year after a setlist absence since 2019), where the whole Citadel seemed to sing in unison, creating a moment of pure emotion between the band and the audience. After a reminder, BMTH finish their set with Doomed, Lost and Throne armed with an impressive pyrotechnics, and closing the show in beauty by promising to become in France very soon, perhaps with a European tour in 2025, who knows.
The Main Square Festival 2024 will be remembered as a particularly successful edition, with memorable performances and an indescribable atmosphere. LANDMVRKS, Nothing But Thieves, The Warning and especially Bring Me The Horizon have transformed this day into a real music festival, letting festival-goers leave with unforgettable memories and only one desire: to come back next year.
