Le groupe de Power Metal allemand Avantasia nous présente son dixième album studio intitulé Here Be Dragons, disponible à partir du 28 Février 2025 par le label Napalm Records. Cet album a la particularité de compter parmi ses 10 titres UNIQUEMENT 2 titres solo pour 8 featurings.
Creepshow débarque avec une des chanson les plus catchy que j’ai entendues depuis un moment en reprenant même les codes des titres cultes du Heavy Metal des années 80. Un pur bonheur pour les oreilles. Puis changement d’horizons avec Here Be Dragons est la plus longue chanson de cet opus avec presque 9 minutes de Metal symphonique aux inspirations théâtrales, le tout en featuring avec Geoff Tate (ex chanteur de Queensrÿche).
The Moorland At Twilight en featuring avec Micheal Kiske (chanteur du groupe Helloween entre 1987 et 1993) et The Witch en feat cette fois ci avec Tommy Karevik (chanteur du groupe Kamelot), sont des chansons aux détails uniques mais tout en ayant des similitudes d’histoire et d’atmosphère fantastique. Unleash The Kraken vient rejoindre la team du Power Metal classique et efficace.
Un soupçon de Ronnie Atkins (chanteur de Pretty Maids) pour Phantasmagoria qui apporte une pointe de douceur pour casser le coté frénétique qui est présent depuis le début. Et on continue avec cette fois-ci beaucoup de calme avec Bring On The Night avec son introduction aux tendances slow rock. Ce titre est également un featuring avec Bob Catley (chanteur du groupe Magnum). Si la ballade Metal vous avez manqué et bien vous serez servi avec Everybody’s Here Until The End en feat avec Roy Khan (ex-Kamelot, chanteur de Conception), et ce n’est pas incroyable.
Avalon voit enfin un featuring de qualité en la personne d’Adrienne Cowan (chanteuse du groupe Seven Spires), avec un vrai jeu de voix, et pas un simple accompagnement. Une pure merveille d’harmonisation. Puis c’est au tour de Kenny Lekremo (Chanteur de H.E.A.T) de mettre sa pierre à l’édifice avec Against The Wind, et le moins que l’on puisse dire c’est que cela reste très classique sans trop de prise de risque car les voix sont très similaires.
Avantasia nous propose un medley de featuring en tout genre qui n’apporte pas grand chose de plus aux composition déjà bien fournies. Cela reste un bon album à écouter en fractionné pour éviter de se lasser de ce côté très répétitif. Gros point positif la présence d’Adrienne Cowan qui fait clairement remonter le niveau et l’intérêt de cet album avec une vraie prise de risque en mêlant chant féminin et chant masculin avec des tonalités différentes.

German power metal band Avantasia presents its tenth studio album, Here Be Dragons, available from February 28, 2025 via Naplam Records. This album is unique in that its 10 tracks include ONLY 2 solo tracks and 8 featurings.
Creepshow unloads with one of the catchiest songs I’ve heard in a while, using even the codes of 80s heavy metal cult tracks. Pure joy for the ears. Then a change of horizons with Here Be Dragons, the longest song on this opus with almost 9 minutes of theatrically inspired symphonic metal, featuring Geoff Tate (former lead singer of Queensrÿche).
The Moorland At Twilight, featuring Micheal Kiske (lead singer of Helloween between 1987 and 1993), and The Witch, featuring Tommy Karevik (lead singer of Kamelot), are songs with unique details, but with similar storylines and fantastic atmospheres. Unleash The Kraken joins the team of classic, effective power metal.
A hint of Ronnie Atkins (lead singer of Pretty Maids) on Phantasmagoria brings a touch of gentleness to break up the frenetic side that’s been present from the start. Bring On The Night, with its slow-rock intro, continues with a touch of calm. This track also features Bob Catley (lead singer of Magnum). If you’ve missed the metal ballad, you’re in for a treat with Everybody’s Here Until The End featuring Roy Khan (ex-Kamelot, lead singer of Conception), and it’s not unbelievable.
Avalon finally sees a quality featuring in the person of Adrienne Cowan (lead singer of the band Seven Spires), with real vocal interplay, not mere accompaniment. A pure marvel of harmonization. Then it’s Kenny Lekremo’s turn (lead singer of H.E.A.T) to add his touch with Against The Wind, and the least we can say is that it’s very classic, without taking too many risks, as the voices are very similar.
Avantasia offers us a medley of all kinds of featuring that doesn’t add much to the already well-filled composition. It remains a good album to be listened to in instalments to avoid tiring of the repetitive aspect. On the plus side, Adrienne Cowan clearly raises the level and interest of this album, taking a real risk by mixing male and female vocals with different tonalities.
