[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Ce soir, Ankor se produit au Rex de Toulouse dans le cadre de sa grande tournée européenne pour son mini-album Shoganai Vol.1. Une impatience grandissante de revoir le groupe après leur court set au Hellfest l’an dernier se fait sentir et dans la file d’attente, beaucoup viennent apparemment découvrir le groupe sur scène. Merci à Eros de Kinda pour les accréditations ainsi qu’à l’asso Regarts pour son accueil et pour avoir organisée la soirée!
Le premier groupe ce soir sera une totale découverte, Seven Blood est en effet un jeune groupe originaire de Berlin qui s’est formé l’an dernier avec la sortie d’un premier single Killing from the Inside. Forts de leur premier EP Monsters sorti le 17 janvier dernier, le groupe a été choisi pour faire la première partie d’Ankor. Après une courte introduction, Seven Blood arrive sur scène avec leur titre House ≠ Home, la musique du quartet est assez sympathique se rapprochant de groupes Emo avec un instrumentale plus influencé Metalcore très énergique, énergie déployée par la bassiste Josi et le guitariste Oli tandis que la chanteuse Azaria interagit avec le public. Malheureusement la sauce n’a pas l’air de prendre du côté du public qui applaudit entre chaque morceau mais n’a pas l’air plus réceptif que ça. De notre côté, c’est plutôt la même chose, le chant de la leadeuse nous laissant de marbre même si l’instrumental reste vraiment accrocheur.
Depuis la sortie de leur dernier album en date Slow Burn en 2023, il nous tardait de découvrir Conquer Divide en live avec tout les bangers présent sur cet album! On peut constater tout de même un léger changement de line-up, le scream ainsi que la basse sont assurées par Spencer du groupe A War Within tandis qu’à la batterie on constate l’absence de Sam (pas d’informations sur son remplaçant) mais qu’à cela ne tienne le show va être tout bonnement incroyable malgré un léger bémol pour les photos! Slow Burn va être quasiment joué intégralement et quel bonheur d’entendre Atonement (qui va lancer le show), Paralyzed ou encore system_failure, Conquer Divide fait bouger le public notamment en demandant un pit sur Paralyzed. Spencer est tout simplement extraordinaire tout comme Kiarely au chant clair, le duo fonctionne incroyablement bien et on espère (peut-être) que Spencer se fera une place définitive dans le line-up.
Depuis la découverte de Ankor il y’a deux ans maintenant, inutile de dire que notre amour pour ce groupe n’a cessé de croître et c’est donc avec une impatience non dissimulée que leur set était le plus attendu de ce soir. C’est après l’introduction de Shoganai jouée par les musiciens du groupe que Jessie Williams va arriver pour rouler sur le public présent avec l’incroyable Venom. Le public répond au quart de tour, ça hurle les paroles, les premiers véritables pits font leur apparition et l’ambiance déjà très bonne pendant Conquer Divide se réchauffe encore plus! Même si on connaît peu les anciens titres du groupe on réécoute avec plaisir Walking Dead ou encore The Legend Of Charles The Giant entrecoupées toutes les deux par Stereo. Encore d’anciens titres avant Oblivion sur lequel Jessie va faire un discours émouvant et finira en pleurs en remerciant le public pour tout leur soutient (nous aussi on finira avec la larmichette, ce titre étant un de nos gros coup de coeur depuis sa sortie). Interstellar sera interprété partiellement avant le solo de batterie puissant de Eleni Nota chaudement congratulée par le public. Prisoner/Darkbeat vont sonner la fin de la première partie du set avec également Hill Valley et Embers, mais Ankor en a encore sous le manteau et quitte la scène pour mieux revenir, sur Shoganai et une cover de Moonlight Shadow pour faire la fête une dernière fois avec ses fans.
On retient encore les sourires du groupe, la puissance de Eleni et celle de Jessie au chant mais aussi les performances vraiment excellentes de David à la guitare (et au chant clair), Julio à la basse et le charismatique Fito qui régale toujours autant avec son jeu de scène. Ce troisième set de la soirée a bien sûr été le meilleur et il nous tarde déjà de revoir Ankor prochainement!
[ENGLISH VERSION] Tonight, Ankor performs at the Rex in Toulouse as part of their extensive European tour for their mini-album Shoganai Vol.1. There’s a growing impatience to see the band again after their short set at last year’s Hellfest, and in the queue, many seem to have come to discover the band live. Thanks to Eros of Kinda for accreditation, and to the Regarts association for hosting and organizing the evening!
The first band tonight will be a total discovery, as Seven Blood are a young band from Berlin who formed last year with the release of their first single Killing from the Inside. On the strength of their debut EP Monsters, released on January 17, the band has been chosen to open for Ankor. After a short introduction, Seven Blood arrived on stage with their track House ≠ Home, the quartet’s music is quite nice, coming closer to Emo bands with a more Metalcore-influenced instrumental very energetic, energy deployed by bassist Josi and guitarist Oli while singer Azaria interacts with the audience. Unfortunately, the audience didn’t seem to take to the show, applauding between songs but not really receptive. On our side, it’s more or less the same, the lead singer’s vocals leaving us unimpressed, even if the instrumental remains really catchy.
Since the release of their latest album Slow Burn in 2023, we’ve been looking forward to discovering Conquer Divide live, with all the bangers on that album! There’s been a slight change in line-up, with Spencer from A War Within taking over the scream and bass duties, and Sam absent on drums (no word yet on her replacement), but the show is going to be nothing short of incredible, despite a slight downside for the photos! Slow Burn is played almost in its entirety, and it’s a real pleasure to hear Atonement (which kicks off the show), Paralyzed and system_failure and more of this record. Conquer Divide gets the crowd moving, particularly when it calls for a pit on Paralyzed. Spencer is simply extraordinary, as is Kiarely on clean vocals. The duo works incredibly well, and we hope (perhaps) that Spencer will make a permanent place for himself in the line-up.
Since discovering Ankor two years ago now, needless to say, our love for this band has continued to grow, and so it was with undisguised impatience that their set was the most eagerly awaited of the evening. It was after the introduction of Shoganai played by the band’s musicians that Jessie Williams arrived to roll over the audience with the incredible Venom. The crowd responds at the drop of a hat, screaming the lyrics, the first real pits appear and the atmosphere, already very good during Conquer Divide, heats up even more! Even if we’re not very familiar with the band’s old songs, it’s a pleasure to listen again to Walking Dead or The Legend Of Charles The Giant, both interspersed with Stereo. More old songs before Oblivion, on which Jessie makes a moving speech and ends up in tears, thanking the audience for all their support (we too end up with tears in our eyes, this song having been one of our favorites since its release). Interstellar will be partially played before Eleni Nota‘s powerful drum solo, warmly congratulated by the audience. Prisoner/Darkbeat bring the first part of the set to a close, along with Hill Valley and Embers, but Ankor still has some left in him and leaves the stage, only to return on Shoganai and a cover of Moonlight Shadow to celebrate one last time with their fans.
We still remember the band’s smiles, the power of Eleni and Jessie‘s vocals, as well as the truly excellent performances of David on guitar (and clear vocals), Julio on bass and the charismatic Fito, who always delights with his stage presence. This third set of the evening was of course the best, and we’re already looking forward to seeing Ankor again soon!
