[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] La tempête Niels n’aura pas empêchée la tenue de cette soirée à l’Arkea Arena (et encore heureux). Alter Bridge a donc investi Bordeaux pour la première fois de sa carrière accompagnés par Sevendust et surtout par…Daughtry. Merci à Olivier Garnier de Replica pour les accréditations pour cette soirée (qui aurait pu mieux se dérouler)*
On commence donc la soirée assez timidement niveau affluence avec le groupe de Nu Metal US : Sevendust. Le groupe a plus de 30 ans de carrière et malgré quelques années difficiles on ne peut que constater l’efficacité de leurs titres mais également leur énergie et leur good vibes sur scène. Et d’entrée de jeu, Sevendust ne plaisante pas et envoie deux titres Black (issu de leur premier album) et Denial (extrait de Animosity), le public est assez peu réceptif mais on peut voir que certains apprécient tout de même le moment présent. Lajon Witherspoon (chant) est très souriant et communicatif avec le public, il introduit Is This The Real You extrait du prochain album du groupe à venir en mai, remercie la « Metal Family » française de les soutenir depuis tout ce temps. Le groupe joue majoritairement des titres issus de sa discographie sortie dans les années 2000 et nous replonge avec nostalgie dans cette époque bénie. Le set se conclut avec Face To Face et autant dire qu’on aurait bien repris une dose de Sevendust en plus tant leur énergie était contagieuse. Petite anecdote sur cette date (ou sur l’intégralité de la tournée) : c’est le manager du groupe Tim Tournier qui a remplacé Clint Lowery pour les Back Vocals et la guitare Lead!
Arrive ENFIN le set qu’on attendait le plus ce soir (et ce depuis 2006) : celui de Daughtry! Le groupe investit la scène de l’Arkea sur l’intro The Seeds (de son dernier EP en date) et dès que Chris Daughtry pose le pied sur scène c’est l’explosion! ça commence avec DIVIDED, ça continue avec THE DAY I DIE sur lequel les rares fans présents s’explosent les cordes vocales, une pause avec une cover de Journey : Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) et on arrive sur les classiques It’s Not Over qui vient nous tirer des larmes et chercher dans nos émotions les plus profondes et porté par la voix de Chris, chaque titre de Daughtry prend une dimension telle qu’on voudrait que le concert ne se termine jamais. On continue dans les titres plus récents avec ANTIDOTE mais PIECES et Over You ne sont pas loin derrière et nous replonge avec bonheur à l’époque où on a connu Daughtry avec cette dernière (if you know, Radio Disney , you know). C’est avec Heavy Is The Crown et ARTIFICIAL que le set va se conclure et tout comme pour Sevendust, on aurait tellement aimé que le set dure encore plus longtemps et voir des titres comme Home ou encore Breakdown en live mais on s’en contentera…pour l’instant! Il faudra donc songer à revenir en France, Messieurs!
Le moment que tout le monde attend arrive donc et il est temps pour Alter Bridge de faire du Rock pendant…un moment qui nous a semblé il faut le dire bien long! Ces messieurs commencent avec Silent Divide extrait de leur dernier album en date sorti quelques semaines avant le concert avant d’enchaîner avec un titre qu’on aime beaucoup : Addicted To Pain et deux autres titres issus du même album Cry Of Achilles et Fortress. On se sent un peu déconnectés par rapport aux deux sets précédents mais autant dire que les musiciens mettent du coeur à l’ouvrage notamment Mark Tremonti qu’on va retrouver en lead vocals sur Burn It Down et Tested And Able. C’est d’ailleurs son énergie et celle du bassiste Brian Marshall qui nous tiennent à peu près debout car Myles Kennedy pourtant chanteur lead/guitariste semble très effacé (ou peut-être tout simplement fatigué avec l’enchaînement des dates), remerciant chaleureusement les groupes qui ont joués avant eux et introduisant presque chaque titre mais sa performance vocale nous laisse toujours admiratif que ce soit sur Broken Wings, Open Your Eyes ou encore Metalingus sur laquelle le public va se réveiller, on verra quelques crowd-surfers dans la fosse mais le reste du temps, l’assemblée reste bien calme et semble profiter du set tranquillement, ce qui reste un bon point en soit puisque Alter Bridge est largement congratulé entre chaque titre. Un seul rappel ce soir et ce sera avec le titre Blackbird. Le groupe remercie le public d’être venu et reste de longues minutes sur scène tout sourire pour saluer leurs fans et distribuer set-list/médiator et baguettes.
*NDLR : On ne fait pas travailler d’agresseurs sexuels au contact de leurs victimes, si les salles et les organisations pouvait prendre ça en compte, ce serait formidable mais apparemment il y’a encore du chemin à faire…

Alter Bridge thus took the stage in Bordeaux for the first time in their career, accompanied by Sevendust and, most notably, Daughtry . The evening kicked off with a rather modest turnout for the US nu-metal band: Sevendust . The band has been around for over 30 years, and despite a few tough years, you can’t help but notice the impact of their songs, as well as their energy and positive vibes on stage. Right from the start, Sevendust means business, launching into two tracks: Black (from their debut album) and Denial (from Animosity). The crowd is somewhat unresponsive, but you can tell that some are still enjoying the moment. Lajon Witherspoon (vocals) is very cheerful and engaging with the crowd; he introduces Is This The Real You, a track from the band’s upcoming album set for release in May, and thanks the French “Metal Family” for supporting them all this time. The band plays mostly tracks from their discography released in the 2000s, taking us back nostalgically to that golden era. The set concludes with Face To Face, and suffice it to say we would have gladly had another dose of Sevendust given how contagious their energy was. FINALLY, the set we’ve been waiting for the most tonight (and have been since 2006) is here: Daughtry ’s! The band takes the Arkea stage with the intro to The Seeds (from their latest EP), and the moment Chris Daughtry steps on stage, it’s an explosion! It starts with DIVIDED, continues with THE DAY I DIE—during which the few fans in attendance are screaming their lungs out—followed by a break with a cover of Journey ’s Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) and we move on to the classics like It’s Not Over, which brings tears to our eyes and taps into our deepest emotions; carried by Chris’s voice, every Daughtry song takes on such a depth that we wish the concert would never end. We continue with more recent tracks like ANTIDOTE, but PIECES and Over You aren’t far behind, happily transporting us back to the days when we first discovered Daughtry with the latter (if you know Radio Disney , you know). The set wraps up with Heavy Is The Crown and ARTIFICIAL, and just like with Sevendust , we would have loved for the set to go on even longer and see songs like Home or Breakdown performed live, but we’ll settle for this… for now! So you’ll have to think about coming back to France, gentlemen!
The moment everyone has been waiting for finally arrives, and it’s time for Alter Bridge to rock out for… a moment that, it must be said, felt like it took forever! The guys kick things off with Silent Divide, a track from their latest album released just a few weeks before the concert, before moving on to a song we really love: Addicted To Pain, followed by two more tracks from the same album, Cry Of Achilles and Fortress. We feel a bit disconnected compared to the two previous sets, but it’s safe to say the musicians are putting their hearts into it, especially Mark Tremonti , who takes the lead vocals on Burn It Down and Tested And Able. In fact, it’s his energy and that of bassist Brian Marshall that keep us on our feet, since Myles Kennedy —despite being the lead singer and guitarist—seems very subdued (or perhaps simply tired from the back-to-back shows), warmly thanking the bands that played before them and introducing almost every track, but his vocal performance never fails to impress, whether on Broken Wings, Open Your Eyes, or even Metalingus, which finally gets the crowd going—we see a few crowd-surfers in the pit, but the rest of the time, the audience remains fairly calm and seems to be quietly enjoying the set, which is a good thing in itself since Alter Bridge receives plenty of applause between each song. There’s only one encore tonight, and it’s the song Blackbird. The band thanks the audience for coming and stays on stage for several long minutes, all smiles, to greet their fans and hand out set lists, picks, and drumsticks.
*Editor’s note: We do not allow sex offenders to work in direct contact with their victims. It would be wonderful if theaters and organizations could take this into account, but apparently there is still a long way to go…
