Le premier couplet démontre d’ailleurs un inversement des tendances : « I′ve been known for messing up things, And I don’t want to ruin you, baby […] I′m so bad, so filthy But you′ve been so good to me, yeah » ( « Je suis connue pour tout foutre en l’air et je ne veux pas te ruiner bébé […]
NO ONE BUT U représente le renouveau. « I was done with love. One kiss, you saved me. I′ll give you my heart but don’t you break me » (« J’en avais fini avec l’amour. Un baiser, tu m’as sauvé, je te donnerais mon coeur mais ne me brise pas. »)
« Baby, I’ll do everything I said. I’ll make it real and not just in our heads, I can see us make it ’til the end.
And after all this love, I’m defeated, internally bleeding on my own. I’m better alone.

[ENGLISH VERSION]
Kami Kehoe‘s new album, LOVE IS A WEAPON, has been available for two weeks now, and it was obvious that Chair Your Sound was going to bring you a full review of it. So, this album: smash or pass?
The album opens with the title track, LOVE IS A WEAPON, and almost immediately, an introduction worthy of the name, with a first verse that doesn’t hold back when it comes to guitars. The saturated sound blends beautifully with the singer’s voice, and we quickly understand that here, we’re talking about the way Love, in the literal sense of the word, can be both a powerful but destructive force. Here, the complexity of having to hold on despite circumstances that push us to our limits mixes with the questioning of one’s own faith and beliefs. We can easily understand that Kami is referring to pure hearts being put through the wringer by people who seek to take advantage of their privileges and the Love these people are capable of showing. I can easily say that after a full listen, this song is not only worthy of a divine opening, but also one of my favorites from the album.
The second song is called SEE URSELF A GOD and it follows in the footsteps of LOVE IS A WEAPON, mainly because it talks about the conflict that happens between two people who have just broken up for whatever reason. No matter the type of relationship, when a story ends, there are always two versions. However, the person most in the wrong is often the one who will try to find some kind of defense. And it’s very true: no one will try harder to tarnish someone’s reputation than the person at fault in the story. It openly describes an abusive relationship in which there was an obvious imbalance: it’s also interesting that it comes directly after LOVE IS A WEAPON, since it is often the purest souls who fall into the trap of manipulators. Musically speaking, we’re dealing with something extremely powerful that could almost be a musical representation of Rage. Rage against the person, but also against oneself for falling into such an easy trap.
The next song is LOST, and here, we change tone. No more anger, rage, questioning, but rather the phase of self-reflection. The nostalgia, the desire to go back in time to fix what could have been, the « what if? », … all the feelings that follow the end of a relationship that ended tragically. This is how we quickly understand that the album truly covers the different stages of grief, which also apply to relationships. The third song directly references the third stage: bargaining, which directly follows the stages of denial and anger – which can respectively be applied to the first and second songs. Kami perfectly expresses this feeling, putting words to things that are difficult to explain, but somehow, she finds a way to highlight the entire complexity of this period that we have all gone through.
And it’s because we can spot this pattern that we’re not really surprised to see that the fourth song on this album, UR GONE, covers the stage of Depression. Kami also stated that this album corresponded precisely to the different stages of grief and everything we can feel when it comes to Love in the broadest sense of the word. How powerful it can be as a feeling, but also how destructive.
SICK begins, and right away, we have a song worthy of this metalcore offshoot: baddiecore. Sensuality is present throughout this track, which mixes strong tones with a dark, soft atmosphere, contrasting with the singer’s gentle voice. This song could be an UFO, because the truth is, it genuinely makes me think of a song Dove Cameron could have written – and that’s a compliment because I love Dove. If the contrast could be surprising, it actually makes perfect sense since this is a song from the point of view of a pseudo-egotrip, taking on the fifth and final stage of grief: acceptance. Not necessarily that everything is going well, but rather accepting that the damage is done, and above all, accepting that you need to give yourself time to heal.
You can often tell from the first few songs if an album is promising, and this one starts off without a single mistake. So we can move forward confidently with the first song we already knew before the album’s release, DIRTY. We’re no longer in the stages of grief, but rather in the reconstruction of a relationship, and this song evokes the way past wounds may have impacted us. The first verse actually shows a reversal of the dynamics: « I′ve been known for messing up things, And I don’t want to ruin you, baby […] I′m so bad, so filthy But you′ve been so good to me, yeah » The role of predator and prey seems to be reversed, as if the vulnerable person from the first song suddenly became everything they had tried to fight against.
LOSE ALL FEELINGS begins, and very quickly, we change musical direction again. Here, we’re talking about the feeling of euphoria that we try to find again after being broken and feeling completely uninhibited from all sensations: the heart has been broken so badly, the mind so messed up that, in the end, we become numb to pain. So, we try everything to regain some semblance of feeling, even if it means going against our own principles, even if it means risking getting hurt: because what comes through in this song is that feeling pain is always better than feeling nothing.
NO ONE BUT U represents renewal. Because here, we’re talking about renewal, about feelings resurfacing in a new relationship, but still being impacted by past wounds. There is still a certain restraint, mainly out of fear of falling back into the vicious cycle of grief. « I was done with love One kiss, you saved me I′ll give you my heart But don’t you break me »
CRASHOUT begins, and it expresses the ghost of the past that remains there, that lingers, that makes us question everything, as if we were forbidden from happiness, as if the culprit’s goal was to let us sink deeper into our misery and stay there. It brings out the manipulative aspect, the fragilities caused by the abuser resurfacing – and while the theme remains quite obvious, it becomes even clearer when you have the full album.
The next song is HEARTLESS, which was also released a few months ago. Here, we’re talking about fragile reconstruction after having seen your heart broken. The fear of suffering if you open your heart again. These are the fragile beginnings of a renewal accompanied by every possible doubt imaginable. Trust being given again, attachment being reborn. The moment of doubt, of fear, and the moment when you absolutely shouldn’t listen to your own demons. Melodically, we have a ballad here, as if it were about putting down the weapons, giving up and accepting the situation. She opens her heart, shows her vulnerability.
PSYCHO, also released a few months ago, begins, and here we have a return of Rage in the literal sense of the word. Here, we’re once again talking about this past relationship, which Kami also mentioned when discussing how her partner didn’t actually love her, but simply wanted to control her. And it is exactly all the emotions that follow such a realization that we feel through these lyrics and this song. We also have a music video that conveys the euphoria that this kind of creation can generate just as well, often ending in rage and disgust, almost directed at ourselves for having fallen into such a trap.
HEART ATTACK follows, and once again, we’re on a ballad. Here, grief is the theme, and it is especially the moment where she draws this boundary between herself and the person who caused her harm. The acceptance, once again, that in the end, this relationship will lead nowhere, that the moments of pain are too present. « Once you go, there’s no coming back », inviting the definitive closure of this door: she finally chooses herself.
The ballads continue as it is time for SUFFERING to be heard, and this time, it is once again a rebirth that takes place within the song. The rebirth of a new relationship, of these different feelings and this desire to connect with someone, but which unfortunately ends, again and again, in self-sabotage. She isn’t in a good place to be with someone, but she wants to; it evokes the vicious cycle. Having fallen so low, no longer trusting yourself but also no longer trusting others. This desire to hide your vulnerability while constantly needing someone to try to move forward. This is the painful stage of reconstruction, where we learn to know ourselves again.
The armor finally falls, Love is reborn, and with it, the relationship. The flame starts burning again, and that is exactly what THE END evokes. The doubts of a new relationship, but the confirmation that, in the end, these feelings are there, the promise of a bright future, of becoming the best version of yourself even during the most painful moments. « Baby, I’ll do everything I said. I’ll make it real and not just in our heads, I can see us make it ’til the end. » She promises that she won’t reproduce the patterns that were inflicted upon her, that she will work against her own fear and pain, and that she will hold on to the person she loves, doing everything she can to make it work. This is, by the way, still one of my favorites from this album.
INTERNALLY BLEEDING ultimately evokes the end of the relationship, and it may also be the most powerful one when it comes to this theme, partly because it is the one that closes our album. Because here, on top of the pain of realizing that you are alone, there is also a certain sense of resilience. The pain is there, and it is vivid, the reconstruction will be long, however, one sentence, one sentence catches my attention: « And after all this love, I’m defeated, internally bleeding on my own. I’m better alone. » Despite the pain, despite the fear, the desire to grow and love, staying alone, at least while healing, may be the greatest gift we can give ourselves.
But ultimately, what is the album worth?
A masterpiece in the literal sense of the word and perhaps one of my favorite releases of 2026. Kami Kehoe has released an album that we can all relate to if we have already experienced heartbreak, with its lows, its highs, its resilience and its relapse. I would say that the main message is simply not to destroy yourself, not to blame yourself. Love is a destructive feeling, but it is also one of the most beautiful feelings there is and one that we are capable of experiencing. Some people will abuse it, as is made explicit here, but sometimes, in the macabre ocean, there will be lights to hold on to. But above all, don’t abandon yourself and lose yourself under the pretext of. We can simply highlight one thing, which may serve as a moral lesson – or maybe not. It’s not supposed to be complicated. It’s not supposed to be a weapon, turned towards destroying someone. It’s a beautiful lesson, a beautiful story to listen to, an album that tells a certain narrative that is important to hear: but above all, if someone truly loves you, then they won’t make you suffer. (On a side note, it might be responsible for a lot of breakups, but honestly, rightfully so. We shouldn’t settle for the bare minimum; quite the opposite, because someone who truly loves you will bend over backwards for you.)
