[English version below] Sorti le 28 août 2026 via Thriller Records / InVogue Records, Not Broken Enough est le deuxième album de Catch Your Breath. Après un premier opus qui avait permis au groupe américain de se faire rapidement une place dans la scène metal moderne, cette suite était forcément attendue avec curiosité. Une grande partie de l’album était déjà connue grâce aux nombreux singles sortis en amont, laissant finalement seulement cinq véritables nouveautés : Contaminated, Red Alert, Carnivore, The Basement et Hollow Dreams. Mais cela permet aussi de retrouver des titres déjà appréciés et de découvrir comment ils s’intègrent à l’ensemble de l’album.
Dès Contaminated, on retrouve le Catch Your Breath que l’on connaît : une production très propre, un son moderne et ce timbre de voix immédiatement reconnaissable. Le chanteur maîtrise aussi bien son chant clair que son chant saturé, avec une vraie dimension émotionnelle. Red Alert poursuit dans cette direction avec une ambiance un peu différente mais parfaitement cohérente, jusqu’à un premier break lourd et vraiment efficace. L’album démarre donc sur une très bonne dynamique. Cette alternance entre passages calmes et moments plus puissants fonctionne particulièrement bien. Blood Money, que l’on connaissait déjà et que l’on avait pu entendre en live, reste notamment l’un des titres les plus marquants. Très entraînant et puissant, il contient beaucoup de chant saturé et possède clairement un énorme potentiel live. On retrouve également les éléments modernes qui font l’identité du groupe : ajouts électroniques, instruments très présents et basse bien mise en avant.
Certaines nouveautés prennent davantage le temps d’installer une ambiance. Carnivore, plus doux que ce que son titre pourrait laisser penser, permet notamment de faire respirer l’album. S’il paraît plus calme après la puissance de Blood Money, il reste très bien produit et s’intègre naturellement à l’ensemble. Cette diversité permet justement à l’album de ne pas être constamment dans la démonstration. Et parmi les nouveautés, The Basement constitue une vraie bonne surprise. Le morceau commence de manière très planante, presque pop grâce aux effets électroniques, avant d’exploser sur le refrain lorsque les instruments s’ajoutent. Cette dualité d’ambiance est particulièrement intéressante et montre une nouvelle fois que Catch Your Breath sait jouer avec différentes atmosphères tout en conservant son identité.
L’aspect émotionnel reste également au cœur de Not Broken Enough. Control, qui avait déjà marqué à sa sortie et en live, en est un très bon exemple. Son refrain reste immédiatement en tête et le groupe continue d’aborder explicitement la santé mentale et le vécu. Cette dimension, déjà remarquée en concert, est encore plus présente sur ce second opus et donne une véritable profondeur à l’album. Lost poursuit également cette ambiance avec ses nombreux ajouts électroniques, qui peuvent parfois rappeler Bad Omens, tout en conservant une belle place pour l’instrumental et une forte intensité émotionnelle. Le fait que plusieurs titres soient déjà connus n’empêche finalement pas l’album de fonctionner comme un ensemble. Rewind ou Dark, sortis bien avant l’album, trouvent naturellement leur place aux côtés des nouveaux morceaux. Catch Your Breath est pourtant un groupe relativement récent qui s’est fait une place rapidement grâce à un style reconnaissable et des productions de qualité. Le featuring de [Gen]inside avec Kami Kehoe apporte également une petite variation intéressante. Sa voix féminine se marie très bien à celle du chanteur et apporte une belle couleur au morceau, même si la composition reste assez classique pour le groupe. Enfin, Hollow Dreams termine l’album sur une note plus douce et très centrée sur la voix, offrant une conclusion cohérente à l’ensemble.
Au final, Not Broken Enough est un album solide, cohérent et particulièrement riche en émotion. Catch Your Breath poursuit très correctement ce qui avait été commencé avec le premier album, tout en confirmant une identité musicale déjà bien installée. La production est toujours très propre, le style immédiatement reconnaissable et les différents éléments électroniques et instrumentaux sont parfaitement maîtrisés. Même si une partie de l’album était déjà connue avant sa sortie, les nouveaux morceaux apportent suffisamment de matière pour compléter l’ensemble, avec notamment The Basement comme belle surprise. Entre les passages planants, les refrains accrocheurs et les moments plus lourds, Not Broken Enough confirme surtout que Catch Your Breath a encore de belles choses à proposer. Une suite réussie et un album qui devrait prendre encore plus d’ampleur en live.

Following a debut that quickly established the American band within the modern metal scene, this follow up was naturally awaited with curiosity. Much of the album was already familiar thanks to numerous pre release singles, leaving only five truly new tracks: Contaminated, Red Alert, Carnivore, The Basement, and Hollow Dreams. However, this also offers the chance to revisit beloved songs and discover how they fit into the album as a whole.
Right from Contaminated, we encounter the Catch Your Breath we know: pristine production, a modern sound, and that instantly recognizable vocal timbre. The vocalist masters both clean and harsh vocals, infusing them with genuine emotional depth. Red Alert continues in this vein with a slightly different, yet perfectly cohesive, atmosphere, leading into a heavy, highly effective initial breakdown. The album thus kicks off with great momentum. The interplay between quieter passages and more powerful moments works particularly well. Blood Money, already familiar from live performances, remains a standout track. Highly infectious and powerful, it features heavy use of harsh vocals and clearly possesses massive live potential. The band’s signature modern elements are also present: electronic flourishes, prominent instrumentation, and a driving bassline.
Some of the new tracks take more time to establish an atmosphere. Carnivore, softer than the title might suggest, provides a welcome breather for the album. While it feels calmer following the intensity of Blood Money, it remains expertly produced and fits naturally into the overall flow. This diversity ensures the album avoids being a constant display of technical prowess. Among the new tracks, The Basement proves to be a genuinely pleasant surprise. The track begins with a very atmospheric, almost pop like feel, thanks to electronic effects, before exploding into the chorus as the instruments kick in. This contrast in mood is particularly interesting, demonstrating once again that Catch Your Breath knows how to play with different atmospheres while maintaining its own identity.
The emotional aspect also remains central to Not Broken Enough. Control, which made an impact upon its initial release and in live performances, is a prime example. Its chorus is instantly catchy, and the band continues to openly address mental health and personal experiences. This dimension, already evident in their live shows, is even more pronounced on this second record, lending the album genuine depth. Lost continues this atmospheric trend with its extensive use of electronics, at times reminiscent of Bad Omens, while still leaving plenty of room for instrumentation and intense emotion. The fact that several tracks were already known doesn’t stop the album from working as a cohesive whole; songs like Rewind and Dark, released well before the album, fit naturally alongside the new material. Catch Your Breath is a relatively new band, yet they have quickly carved out a niche thanks to a distinctive style and high quality production. The guest feature by Kami Kehoe on [Gen]inside also adds an interesting touch; her female vocals blend beautifully with the lead singer’s voice, adding a lovely texture to the track, even if the composition remains fairly typical for the band. Finally, Hollow Dreams closes the album on a softer, vocal driven note, providing a fitting conclusion to the record.
Ultimately, Not Broken Enough is a solid, cohesive, and deeply emotional album. Catch Your Breath successfully builds on the foundation laid by their debut while cementing an already well established musical identity. The production is consistently polished, the style is instantly recognizable, and the electronic and instrumental elements are expertly handled. Even though part of the album was already familiar prior to its release, the new tracks offer enough substance to round out the record, with The Basement standing out as a particularly pleasant surprise. With its blend of atmospheric passages, catchy choruses, and heavier moments, Not Broken Enough confirms above all that Catch Your Breath still has great things to offer. It is a successful follow up, an album that is sure to take on even greater impact in a live setting.
