[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Huit ans après Written In Blood (2018), The Casualties sont ENFIN de retour avec leur douzième album studio , Detonate qui sortira ce vendredi 27 mars via Hellcat Records/Epitaph Records. Et croyez-nous, leur énergie est intacte!
L’album s’ouvre sur une courte Intro (TOO LITTLE,TOO LATE), un sample de zapping sur des reportages d’actualités tous plus oppressants les uns que les autres et un électrocardiogramme donne le ton d’entrée de jeu, les Casualties ne sont pas là pour rigoler et après tout c’est bien comme ça qu’on les connaît…La fin de l’électrocardiogramme nous conduit directement au morceau titre Detonate et son cri d’ouverture qui déboule sur un morceau Punk-Hardcore purement new-yorkais, c’est rapide, brut et putain de catchy! En moins de deux minutes, le groupe nous a déjà retourné tout en dénonçant un sujet d’actualité : les injustices et les inégalités qui sont devenues la norme dans tant d’aspects de la société. Un autre single suit à savoir People Over Power et un refrain purement hymnique qui risque de faire fureur en live là encore c’est hyper rapide, on ne voit pas l’écoute passer et parfois ça fait du bien de poser son cerveau mais pas trop non plus, l’album nous invite à réfléchir sur les aspects bien négatifs de notre société ici on se fait piétiner par les gouvernements et les mauvaises nouvelles en espérant une transformation totale du système. Empire Falls prend la suite et ralentit un peu la cadence tout en restant relativement entraînant, le tout soutenu par une très belle ligne de basse de Doug Wellmon là encore on ne pourra que se surprendre à scander les paroles et à lever le poing!
Allies And Assassins c’est exactement le genre de morceau qui foutra le bordel en concert, un bon pogo et c’est reparti avec ses refrains toujours aussi puissants c’est typiquement le genre de titre sur lequel une fosse aime se défouler! « We are We are We’re Free Free to be what we wanna be » et on repart sur Brick By Brick et son intro parlée par Vinnie Stigma (Agnostic Front) avant d’enchaîner sur une ligne de basse qui va encore bien débuter le morceau et ce Brick By Brick scandé comme un cri de ralliement, le genre de trucs qui marchent parfaitement bien et les paroles restent calibrées pour foutre un coup de pied dans la fourmilière » They’re taking your freedom away.When I was much young my father told me « Never trust the government and fuck the police » Years go by it’s the same old things. Liberty and Justice strangled by greed.Mass surveillance they watch you everywhere ».
Few The True s’ouvre avec un riff typé Country, le genre de titre avec des sing-along à la Dropkick Murphys, encore une pépite pour le live avant Now And Tomorrow plus inspirée Punk laissant le Hardcore de côté. L’avantage de ce genre d’album et de ce genre musical c’est les lignes de basse solides et bien mises en avant, le boulot de Doug Wellmon porte énormément de morceaux ici et son travail est dantesque. Après un Eye For An Eye un poil répétitif, on part sur Pigs On Fire qui va mélanger l’anglais et l’espagnol, ça te bombarde , ça te scotche et ça te fait toujours plus enrager contre les fachos (« Fogo nos Fascistas » littéralement « Au feu les fascistes »). L’avant-dernier titre Streets Of Hatred mélange Hardcore et un côté musical un peu plus léger qui fonctionne très bien en contraste, un morceau agréable à l’écoute avant le dernier brûlot Wake Up, Kill , Repeat, un final qui te montre que The Casualties sont toujours forts et qu’ils savant ce qu’ils font. Une très bonne dernière note qui te laisse en terrain conquis et prêt à tout brûler!
La conclusion sera Punk : The Casualties ont toujours le feu sacré, ce nouvel album en est la preuve en gros t’aime The Casualties, bienvenue à bord, t’aime pas : Vas te faire f***** (bon si t’as le droit de pas aimer mais on a dit Punk la Conclusion)

[ENGLISH VERSION] Eight years after *Written In Blood* (2018), The Casualties are FINALLY back with their twelfth studio album, *Detonate*, set to be released this Friday, March 27, via Hellcat Records/Epitaph Records. And trust us, their energy is as strong as ever!
The album opens with a short intro (TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE), a sample of channel-surfing through news reports, each more oppressive than the last, and an electrocardiogram sets the tone right from the start—The Casualties aren’t here to mess around, and after all, that’s exactly how we know them… The end of the electrocardiogram leads us straight into the title track, “Detonate,” and its opening scream, which bursts into a purely New York-style punk-hardcore track—it’s fast, raw, and damn catchy! In less than two minutes, the band has already blown us away while addressing a timely issue: the injustices and inequalities that have become the norm in so many aspects of society. Another single follows: “People Over Power,” featuring a purely anthemic chorus that’s bound to be a hit live. Once again, it’s blazing fast—the track flies by—and sometimes it feels good to switch off your brain, but not too much. The album invites us to reflect on the deeply negative aspects of our society; here, we’re being trampled by governments and bad news, hoping for a total transformation of the system. “Empire Falls” takes over and slows the pace down a bit while remaining relatively catchy, all backed by a beautiful bass line from Doug Wellmon—once again, you’ll find yourself chanting the lyrics and raising your fist!
“Allies And Assassins” is exactly the kind of track that’ll cause a ruckus at a concert—a good mosh pit and off we go with its choruses as powerful as ever; it’s typically the kind of song a crowd loves to let loose to! “We are We are We’re Free Free to be what we wanna be” and we’re off again with “Brick By Brick” and its spoken intro by Vinnie Stigma (Agnostic Front) before launching into a bass line that kicks the song off perfectly, and that “Brick By Brick” chanted like a rallying cry— the kind of stuff that works perfectly, and the lyrics are tailored to stir up a hornet’s nest: “They’re taking your freedom away. When I was much younger, my father told me, ‘Never trust the government and fuck the police.’ Years go by, it’s the same old things. Liberty and Justice strangled by greed. Mass surveillance—they watch you everywhere.”
“Few The True” opens with a country-style riff, the kind of track with sing-alongs like Dropkick Murphys—another gem for live shows—before “Now And Tomorrow,” a more punk-inspired track that leaves hardcore behind. The strength of this kind of album and this musical genre lies in the solid, prominent bass lines; Doug Wellmon’s work carries a lot of the tracks here, and his playing is epic. After the slightly repetitive “Eye For An Eye,” we move on to “Pigs On Fire,” which mixes English and Spanish—it hits you hard, hooks you, and makes you even more enraged against the fascists (“Fogo nos Fascistas,” literally “Fire the Fascists”). The penultimate track, “Streets Of Hatred,” blends hardcore with a slightly lighter musical side that works very well as a contrast—a pleasant track to listen to before the final scorcher, “Wake Up, Kill, Repeat,” a finale that shows you The Casualties are still strong and know exactly what they’re doing. A great closing track that leaves you feeling conquered and ready to burn it all down!
The conclusion is Punk: The Casualties still have that fire in them, and this new album is proof of it. Basically, if you love The Casualties, welcome aboard; if you don’t: Go f*** yourself (well, you’re allowed not to like it, but we said Punk is the conclusion).
