[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Hellripper est de retour dans quelques jours (27 mars) avec son nouvel et quatrième album Coronach et une nouvelle signature chez Century Media!
Hunderprest commence fort avec des riffs agressifs qui engage une certaine agressivité qui découle du style Speed Metal mais avec une inspiration également Rock N Roll et un chant qui se rapproche du Black Metal, les parties de guitares nous transportent devant tant de virtuosité et mêlées aux touches de clavier, le tout est vraiment agréable à l’oreille. James McBain ne nous a pas habitués à moins bien et ce nouvel album débute sur les chapeaux de roue! Mais revenons sur ce titre Hunderprest emprunté à la légende du vampire de l’abbaye de Melrose et du chapelain pêcheur qui a hérité de ce surnom car il avait l’habitude de chasser avec sa meute de chien. Kinchyle (Goatkraft and Granite) et son côté Old-School Heavy accrocheur accompagné de ses choeurs fédérateurs vont faire de ce morceau un must-have en live! Là encore pour l’explication Kinchyle est le cri de ralliement du clan écossais Mcbain, là encore on ne peut que noter la référence aux origines de la tête pensante du groupe qui a vécu à Aberdeen pendant son enfance.
On continue avec un début plus mélancolique et mélodique pour The Art Of Resurrection mais chasser le naturel et la chèvre revient au galop! Même si le côté extrême reste bien encré dans ce nouveau titre, la mélancolie présente se fait toujours ressentir avec un côté peut-être un peu plus pesant et un peu moins « réjouissant ». Baobhan Sith (Waltz of the Damned) revient à ce que le début de l’album pouvait proposer, c’est rapide et agressif en soit presque tout ce qu’on demande à Hellripper avec des parties qui en feront headbanger plus d’un, c’est rythmé et entraînant bref ça fonctionne bien. Une petite note historique là encore une Baobhan Sith est un type de vampire femme dans les Highlands écossais, elles sont présentées comme de belles femmes qui séduisent leurs victimes avant de les attaquer et de les vider de leur sang (tout un programme sur le folklore écossais qui donne envie de découvrir ses histoires). Blakk Satanik Fvkkstorm est un morceau se rapprochant du Speed Metal avec toujours ce chant virulent et des riffs à la croisée du Black et du Thrash, c’est catchy et accrocheur et on en redemande!
Les esprits se calment quelques secondes avec l’introduction de Mortercheyn une composition plus épique en contraste avec la froideur plus qu’évidente des racines Black Metal de cet avant-dernier morceau avant le final sur Coronach. Un titre plus atmosphérique qui penche toujours du côté du BM et qui s’ouvre avec quelques notes de la marche funèbre de Chopin. James nous délivre une nouvelle fois une performance vocale de haute voltige entre spoken words, chant clair mais aussi parties profondément Black et Death Metal le tout parfois entrecroisé. Ce grand final contient également des notes de cornemuse jouées par Antonio Rodriguez.
Hellripper ne déçoit pas avec ce nouvel album! Coronach aborde les deux parties de sa musique aussi intense que rapide tout en gardant certaines parties plus mélodiques et longues comme sur le morceau éponyme.

[ENGLISH VERSION] Hellripper are back in a few days (27 March) with their new and fourth album, Coronach, and a new deal with Century Media!
Hunderprest gets off to a flying start with aggressive riffs that channel a certain aggression typical of Speed Metal, yet with Rock ‘n’ Roll influences and vocals reminiscent of Black Metal. The guitar parts are a feast for the ears, showcasing such virtuosity and blending seamlessly with the keyboard touches – the whole thing is a real treat for the ears. James McBain has never let us down, and this new album gets off to a flying start! But let’s return to the track Hunderprest, named after the vampire legend of Melrose Abbey and the sinful chaplain who earned this nickname because he used to hunt with his pack of dogs. Kinchyle (Goatkraft and Granite), with its catchy old-school heavy vibe and unifying backing vocals, is set to be a live essential! Once again, Kinchyle is the rallying cry of the Scottish McBain clan; once again, one cannot help but note the reference to the origins of the band’s mastermind, who spent his childhood in Aberdeen.
We continue with a more melancholic and melodic start to The Art Of Resurrection, but you can’t fight nature, and the goat comes galloping back! Even though the extreme side remains firmly rooted in this new track, the melancholy is still palpable, with a feel that’s perhaps a little heavier and a little less ‘uplifting’. Baobhan Sith (Waltz of the Damned) returns to what the start of the album offered; it’s fast and aggressive – in essence, almost everything one could ask for from Hellripper – with sections that will have more than a few headbangers nodding along; it’s rhythmic and catchy – in short, it works well. A brief historical note: once again, a Baobhan Sith is a type of female vampire found in the Scottish Highlands; they are described as beautiful women who seduce their victims before attacking them and draining them of their blood (a whole chapter of Scottish folklore that makes you want to explore these stories). Blakk Satanik Fvkkstorm is a track verging on speed metal, still featuring that fierce vocals and riffs at the crossroads of black and thrash; it’s catchy and gripping, and leaves you wanting more!
Things calm down for a few seconds with the introduction of Mortercheyn, a more epic composition that contrasts with the unmistakable coldness of the Black Metal roots of this penultimate track before the finale on Coronach. A more atmospheric track that still leans towards Black Metal, opening with a few notes from Chopin’s Funeral March. James once again delivers a high-flying vocal performance, switching between spoken word, clean vocals, and deeply Black and Death Metal sections, all sometimes interwoven. This grand finale also features bagpipe notes played by Antonio Rodriguez.
Hellripper does not disappoint with this new album! Coronach tackles both sides of their music—as intense as it is fast—whilst retaining certain more melodic and extended sections, as on the title track.
