[English below] Erra est de retour avec un nouvel album intitulé Silence Outlives The Earth sorti ce vendredi 6 mars 2026. Le groupe de metalcore progressif signe ainsi son septième album studio, le troisième au sein du label UNFD et ce deux ans seulement après la sortie de l’excellent Cure, un opus que nous avions particulièrement apprécié. On se demande donc ce que nous réservent les américains cette fois-ci. Cet album sera t’il dans la continuité du précédent ?
Stelliform démarre cet album, c’est un titre qui rentre direct dans le vif du sujet, lourd, mélodique, bourré des dissonances. Le refrain comporte pourtant un chant très doux. On retrouve Erra qui maîtrise plus que jamais son sujet et ses sonorités propres. On avait déjà adoré Cure et on a l’impression qu’ils sont encore monté d’un cran dans leur créativité/style. C’est entraînant et on entre directement dans l’album avec beaucoup de plaisir, nous sommes très content de les retrouver.
Le second titre, Further Eden se glisse dans la continuité de Stelliform avec un chant très doux accompagné d’un scream plus puissant et percutant. Niveau instru on sens que les musiciens se sont beaucoup amusés lors de l’écriture de l’album car on retrouve de nombreux riffs différents et pleins de petites sonorités sympa ça et là. On assiste au premier breakdown plus prog que jamais, lequel nous aura su.rpris directement à la première écoute. On se retrouve à le relancer plusieurs fois pour l’analyser et l’apprécier à sa juste valeur : un ensemble de pitch harmoniques super bien exécutés et qui rendent le morceau vraiment particulier.
Gore of Being s’enchaîne, plus violent et instantanément entraînant. Le titre pourrait nous rappeler l’énergie d’un We Came As Romans récent. Les riffs de guitare sont encore une fois un pur plaisir auditif, instrumentalement comme au niveau de la voix c’est puissant mais mélodique à la fois. Si vous êtes amateurs du genre, ce genre de titre ne pourra que vous plaire d’autant qu’il comporte un moment de chant pur sans instru et qui débouche sur un breakdown, on a hate de pouvoir écouter ça en live… Espérons que Erra se décide à passer en France !
Black Cloud nous entraîne de par son Where Are You Now super mélodique. La voix de Cavey nous emporte de par les émotions qu’il sait transmettre. Le morceau est plus calme et se veut plus calme par rapport au précédent mais cela ne dérange en aucun point, cela marque comme une pause dans notre écoute. Un coup de coeur absolu dès notre première écoute !
On entre dans le « dur » avec Cicada Siren, un titre beaucoup plus bourrin et qui dénote à merveille avec Black Cloud. Beaucoup de screamo et de riffs puissants, l’ambiance est pourtant loin d’être agressive et on ressens encore une grande intensité émotionnelle à travers le chant. Echo Sonata s’enchaîne parfaitement, encore une fois, avec plus de douceur et une basse bien présente. On aime beaucoup le mixage de l’album, les titres s’enchaînent de façon percutante et fluide. Le titre sera un nouveau coup de coeur pour nous : énergique et pourtant doux, à l’image de ce nouvel album finalement !
On poursuis notre écoute sur Lucid Threshold et Spiral (Of Liminal Infinity) qui se trouvent être dans la continuité des autres titres : encore et toujours un chant clair maîtrisé accompagné d’un scream puissant et une instru savamment étudié. Les riffs de guitares sont riches et techniques, la basse se fait très présente comme pour allourdir ou arrondir le tout dépendamment du moment. Mais ce qui nous marque le plus c’est surtout cette atmosphère générale, bien propre à Erra.
La fin de cet album est composé de trois titres semblant former un triptyque puisque les titres sont précédés d’un I, II et III. Nous commençons avec The Many Names Of God où l’on ressent de pleins fouet une violence et une lourdeur, presque imposantes notamment apporté une compo très djent niveau guitare. In The Gut Off The Wolf continue dans cette lancée. Nous sommes loin de la volupté des deux titres précédent : place ici au gros scream vénère et efficace. L’album nous propose énormément de choses différentes ! Et que vous aimiez les sonorités énervées ou plus douces, au final vous y trouverez votre compte, à condition évidemment d’aimer le métal moderne, progressif et – même si ça n’est pas un genre – le djent ainsi que les riffs léchés. Force est de constater que Silent Outsives The Earth coche de notre côté beaucoup de case parmis ce que l’on aime. Aucune déception donc du début à la fin. La troisième partie de ce trio, Twilight In The Reflection Of Dreams nous apporte un titre où une certaine douceur portée par le chant est mêlée au génie des musiciens de la formation. Soulignons le talent de Jesse Cash à la guitare : du taping omnipresent dans des riffs déjà techniques sachant que ce dernier est également chanteur clair de la formation.
L’album se fini là, et déjà l’envie de le relancer se fait ressentir. Ne serait-ce que pour l’analyser de nouveau et l’apprécier encore et encore. Avis aux amateurs de metal progressif : ne passez pas votre chemin, Erra est une groupe à suivre et leurs derniers albums ne pourront nullement nous donner tort. Depuis déjà leur album éponyme, les américains nous ont montré qu’ils ont trouvé une direction propre et intéressante. Avis donc aux amateurs de Currents ou encore Tesseract, vous pourriez avoir un véritable coup de coeur. Une chose est sûre, pour nous, Erra nous offre ici un des albums qui marquera 2026 et nous espérons les voir passer en France … Prochainement !

[ENGLISH VERSION] Erra is back with a new album titled Silence Outlives The Earth, released this Friday, March 6, 2026. The progressive metalcore band has thus released its seventh studio album, its third on the UNFD label, and just two years after the release of the excellent Cure, an album we particularly enjoyed. So, we wonder what the Americans have in store for us this time. Will this album be a continuation of its predecessor?
« Stelliform » kicks off the album with a track that gets straight to the point: heavy, melodic, and full of dissonance. The chorus, however, features very soft vocals. Erra is back, more in control than ever of their craft and their signature sound. We already loved Cure, and we get the impression that they’ve taken their creativity and style to another level. It’s catchy, and we’re immediately drawn into the album with great pleasure; we’re very happy to have them back.
The second track, Further Eden, follows in the footsteps of Stelliform with very soft vocals accompanied by a more powerful and impactful scream. Instrumentally, it’s clear the musicians had a lot of fun writing the album, as there are many different riffs and plenty of nice little sounds scattered throughout. We’re treated to the first breakdown, more progressive than ever, which immediately grabs our attention on the first listen. We find ourselves playing it several times to analyze and appreciate it fully: a set of superbly executed pitch harmonics that make the track truly unique. Gore of Being follows, more aggressive and instantly catchy. The track might remind us of the energy of a recent We Came As Romans album. The guitar riffs are once again a pure auditory pleasure; instrumentally and vocally, it’s powerful yet melodic at the same time. If you’re a fan of this genre, you’ll love this kind of track, especially since it features a moment of pure vocals without any instrumental accompaniment that leads into a breakdown. We can’t wait to hear it live… Let’s hope Erra decides to come to France!
Black Cloud draws us in with its super melodic « Where Are You Now. » Cavey‘s voice captivates us with the emotions he conveys. The track is calmer and intentionally more subdued compared to the previous one, but this isn’t a problem at all; it creates a welcome pause in the listening experience. An absolute favorite from the very first listen! We move into the « heavy stuff » with « Cicada Siren, » a much more aggressive track that contrasts perfectly with Black Cloud. Lots of screamo and powerful riffs, yet the atmosphere is far from aggressive, and we still feel a great emotional intensity through the vocals. Echo Sonata follows perfectly, once again with more gentleness and a prominent bass. We really love the album’s mix; the tracks flow together seamlessly and powerfully. The title track is another favorite of ours: energetic yet gentle, perfectly reflecting the album as a whole!
We continue listening to « Lucid Threshold » and « Spiral (Of Liminal Infinity), » which follow the same pattern as the other tracks: once again, expertly controlled clean vocals accompanied by powerful screams and meticulously crafted instrumentation. The guitar riffs are rich and technical, and the bass is ever-present, adding weight or rounding out the sound depending on the moment. But what strikes us most is the overall atmosphere, so characteristic of Erra.
The album concludes with three tracks that seem to form a triptych, as they are preceded by I, II, and III. We begin with « The Many Names Of God, » where we are immediately struck by the sheer force and heaviness, almost imposing, particularly due to the very djent-like guitar work. In The Gut Off The Wolf continues in this vein. We’re far from the sensuality of the two previous tracks: here, the focus shifts to raw, aggressive screams. The album offers a huge variety of styles! Whether you prefer aggressive or softer sounds, you’ll ultimately find something to enjoy, provided, of course, that you like modern, progressive metal and—even if it’s not a genre—djent, as well as polished riffs. It’s clear that Silent Outstives The Earth ticks many of the boxes we love. No disappointment from beginning to end. The third part of this trio, Twilight In The Reflection Of Dreams, offers a track where a certain gentleness, conveyed by the vocals, is blended with the musicians’ genius. Jesse Cash‘s guitar talent is particularly noteworthy: his tapping is omnipresent in already technical riffs, especially considering he’s also the band’s clean vocalist.
The album ends here, and the urge to play it again is already palpable. If only to analyze it again and appreciate it again and again. Notice to all progressive metal fans: don’t miss out, Erra is a band to watch, and their latest albums certainly confirm our opinion. Since their self-titled debut, the Americans have shown us they’ve found their own unique and compelling direction. So, fans of Currents or Tesseract, take note: you might just fall in love with them. One thing is for sure: for us, Erra has delivered one of the albums that will define 2026, and we hope to see them tour France… soon!
