[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Après un premier album sorti en 2023, Predatory Void (avec des membres de Amenra, Oathbreaker ou encore Cobra The Impaler) sortira ce vendredi 6 février, un nouvel EP composé de quatre titres. Intitulé Atoned In Metamorphosis, il sortira via le nouveau label du groupe, Pelagic Records.
C’est avec Make Me Whole que débute ce nouvel EP, une ouverture simple avec la voix de Lina R. et une mélodie toute aussi simple qui nous donne l’impression d’assister à un rituel de sorcière comme une invocation avant que la session instrumentale ne vienne rompre cette espèce de quiétude et donner une nouvelle intensité à la composition. On poursuit le voyage introspectif avec le single New Moon où l’ambiance change radicalement autant au niveau du chant que de la mélodie qui vient frapper du côté du Black Metal, même si la vocaliste continue à nous envoûter avec son chant clair qui semble presque fou par moments mais aussi ses cris qui sortent tout droit de ses tripes. Ce nouveau morceau est plus lourd, plus intense , plus pesant tout simplement plus émotionnel et débarque en parfait contraste avec le précédent ce qui montre les deux facettes de Predatory Void. Peeling Cycle reprend sur un rythme plus lancinant et continue sur ce contraste alternant chant clair/passages plus aériens et scream/passages plus bruts et c’est particulièrement ce qui plaît dans les morceaux de la formation belge. Le titre s’éteint brutalement pour passer déjà au final sur Contemplation qui ressemble à quelque chose de plus imprévisible mais pas moins intense ni moins viscéral avec une fin aussi abrupte que celle de Peeling Cycle.
Quatre titres, ce sera sûrement un peu trop court pour ceux qui attendaient un album complet de Predatory Void mais au final ils seront sûrement toujours aussi conquis par la beauté, la musicalité et la violence de ces nouveaux morceaux sur lesquels on distinguent les influences de leurs projets en dehors. [ENGLISH VERSION] Following their debut album released in 2023, Predatory Void (featuring members of Amenra, Oathbreaker and Cobra The Impaler) will release a new four-track EP on Friday 6 February. Entitled Atoned In Metamorphosis, it will be released via the band’s new label, Pelagic Records.
The new EP opens with Make Me Whole, a simple introduction featuring Lina R.‘s vocals and an equally simple melody that gives us the impression of witnessing a witch’s ritual, like an invocation, before the instrumental session breaks this sense of tranquillity and brings a new intensity to the composition. The introspective journey continues with the single New Moon, where the atmosphere changes radically in terms of both vocals and melody, leaning towards black metal, even though the vocalist continues to captivate us with her clear singing, which seems almost crazy at times, and her cries that come straight from the gut. This new track is heavier, more intense, more weighty, simply more emotional, and arrives in perfect contrast to the previous one, showing the two sides of Predatory Void. Peeling Cycle picks up with a more haunting rhythm and continues this contrast, alternating between clear vocals/more ethereal passages and screams/more raw passages, which is particularly appealing in the Belgian band’s tracks. The track ends abruptly, moving straight on to the finale, Contemplation, which is more unpredictable but no less intense or visceral, with an ending as abrupt as that of Peeling Cycle.
Four tracks may be a little too short for those who were expecting a full album from Predatory Void, but in the end they will surely still be won over by the beauty, musicality and violence of these new tracks, which reveal the influences of their other projects. Here’s hoping for a follow-up very soon!
