Le groupe croate de Folk / Power Metal Manntra nous propose son nouvel album intitulé Titans, disponible depuis le 14 Mars 2025 par le label Napalm Records.
Ils se sont fait connaitre notamment avec leur participation pour la sélection croate de l’Eurovision en 2019.
Pour commencer ce périple au cœur de la mythologie croate médiévale, Ceremony se place inévitablement avec son introduction instruments/chœurs qui enchaine directement avec le titre éponyme Titans. Ce dernier propose une structure tout à fait classique pour le style et reste entêtante. On reprend la même recette avec Teuta, The Heart Of The Storm, Unholy Water (Voda), My Sandman et leurs refrains fédérateurs.
Skal va se positionner comme allant droit au but dans la composition en s’inspirant directement par exemple du groupe Beyond the Black surtout sur leur dernier album éponyme ou encore All For Metal leur collègue de Power Allemand où les similitudes sont flagrantes. Tout comme pour Higher qui m’a fait penser à la chanson Wishmaster du groupe légendaire Nightwish avec la même signature rythmique vocale.
On accélère très légèrement la cadence avec Riders In The Dawn qui va venir donner un coup de fouet mais celui-ci n’aura pas vraiment l’effet escompté, puisque l’ambiance et le ressenti vont retomber comme un soufflé par manque de nouveauté depuis le début. Pour la suite un morceau en deux partie avec Forgotten Pt.1 et Forgotten Pt.2 – The Ritual qui communiquent entre elles comme fond sonore, en mettant en place de manière figurative la préparation ainsi que le rituel. Deux titres qui aurait mérités d’être un peu plus poussés. Et ENFIN la conclusion avec Nav qui est à la hauteur du reste de cette fin d’opus, longue et qui manque cruellement de punch.
Manntra nous propose un bon album dans l’ensemble, malgré de bonnes idées et une richesse instrumentale, celui-ci reste très long à écouter et devient très répétitif. Un album qui pourrait plaire sans soucis mais aux fans hardcores et passionnés de culture.

Croatian folk/power metal band Manntra have released their new album, Titans, on March 14, 2025 via Napalm Records.
They made a name for themselves with their participation in the Croatian selection for Eurovision in 2019.
To begin this journey into the heart of medieval Croatian mythology, Ceremony inevitably takes its place with its instrumental/choral introduction, which segues directly into the eponymous Titans. The latter offers a classic structure for the style, and remains heady. The same recipe is followed by Teuta, The Heart Of The Storm, Unholy Water (Voda), My Sandman and their unifying choruses.
Skal’s songwriting is straight to the point, drawing inspiration directly from Beyond the Black, especially on their latest self-titled album, and from German power band All For Metal, where the similarities are obvious. As with Higher, which reminded me of the song Wishmaster by the legendary band Nightwish, with the same signature vocal rhythm.
The pace picks up very slightly with Riders In The Dawn, which kicks things up a notch, but doesn’t really have the desired effect, as the mood and feel fall like a soufflé due to the lack of novelty from the start. This is followed by a two-part track with Forgotten Pt.1 and Forgotten Pt.2 – The Ritual, which communicate with each other as background music, figuratively setting up the preparation and the ritual. Two tracks that would have deserved to be pushed a little further. And FINALLY the conclusion with Nav, which is on a par with the rest of this opus: long and sorely lacking in punch.
Overall, Manntra offers us a good album, but despite its good ideas and instrumental richness, it remains very long to listen to and becomes very repetitive. An album that could easily please hardcore fans and culture buffs.
