Les américains de Cane Hill sont de retour avec un nouvel album, intitulé A piece of me I never let you find. Ce dernier sera disponible dès le 25 octobre, via Out of Line Music.
The pain ends when you let go est assez court. Il s’agit d’une introduction plutôt instrumentale, le chant étant assez loin. On entre tout en douceur, avec un sentiment de flottement, dans ce nouvel opus. The Midnight Sun débute avec des sonorités assez étranges mais qui crée une belle dynamique. Les instruments viennent rapidement se poser dessus, créant quelque chose de lourd et d’envoûtant. L’arrivée du chant va casser ce rythme, avant de rapidement se tourner vers du chant clair, qui apporte une certaine stabilité durant le refrain. Ce titre à un rythme assez changeant et étrange, jouant sur les pauses et les changements rapides et courts. J’ai globalement du mal avec ce premier titre, malgré plusieurs écoutes. Ecstacy in Grief débute sur quelque chose de dynamique et d’agressif. Les instruments semblent se déchaîner et on a ajouté des sonorités atypiques en fond. L’ensemble donne une certaine impression de vitesse et que nous ne contrôlons rien. C’est la dernière partie qui va venir apporter un changement radical, basculant sur une ambiance plus douce mais qui cache bien son jeu car on y découvre un breakdown incroyable.

L’introduction de I always knew that we were doomed donne un bon rythme et va être rejoint par le chant clair. L’ensemble donne un sentiment d’intimité et on se prend vite au jeu. On joue sur le chant qui monte en douceur, avant d’éclater. Il devient plus fort et puissant, venant titiller nos sentiments. Ce titre est très bien maîtrisé et marquant. J’aime beaucoup l’effet que donne les deux types de chants et comment ils s’entremêlent. La dernière partie s’enflamme bien plus et le morceau passe à un niveau encore supérieur. Fade débute en douceur. Le chant semble être un murmure avant de s’imposer un peu plus. Une nouvelle fois, les différents types de chants cohabitent ici et aident à créer une certaine profondeur. Le changement est une nouvelle fois radical car après un peu plus d’une minute, le niveau de violence évolue. Seul le refrain assez aérien nous permet de reprendre notre souffle. Drowing Therapy est un titre assez doux, autant au niveau des instruments que pour le chant mais cela va être de courte durée. On découvre une instrumentalité qui en veut toujours plus et qui joue avec le chant, véritable maître ici.
The sound of roses in bloom est une interlude étrange et atmosphérique. On a l’impression d’entendre des gouttes d’eau qui tombent et on ne sait pas vraiment vers où nous conduit le titre. L’ambiance se modifie avec l’ajout de notes électro. Eye to Eye (iris) débute avec un chant assez calme qui éclate rapidement, avec un très beau scream et surtout surprenant. On joue beaucoup sur les profondeurs et les chants qui alternent entre clair et grave. Les instruments se déchaînent et apportent tout autant de violence que le chant. Ce titre met en avant de très beaux passages instrumentaux, ce qui est sa véritable force. How could you lose est assez rythmé et le chant clair va venir s’y poser. L’ambiance ici est assez douce et flottante, nous transportant et jouant avec nos émotions. On découvre un solo de guitare qui renforce la profondeur et donne un côté aérien intéressant. Un titre tout en douceur où on se laisse emporter.
Permanence in sleep débute avec une instrumentalité assez lourde et un chant au second plan. Celui-ci va rapidement reprendre sa place et apporte de la rapidité et des effets au morceau. De nombreux scream ponctuent ce titre, apportant une belle énergie, cela aide aussi à créer un beau contraste avec le refrain en chant clair. Finding Euphoria est le dernier titre de ce nouvel album et il ouvre sur quelque chose d’énervé au niveau des instruments. Le chant est assez aérien mais il va vite éclater et porter le titre. Une nouvelle fois ces petites pauses en chant clair vont plaisir et aident véritablement l’ensemble. La fin ne nous laisse aucun répit et nous terminons cette écoute avec lourdeur et gravité.
Cane Hill nous propose un nouvel album surprenant. Ils laissent quelque peu la violence de côté pour nous proposer des morceaux où le chant clair et la douceur ont une place importante. Très contente de ce nouvel opus, qui déborde d’énergie et de refrain qui entre en tête.

The Americans of Cane Hill are back with a new album, entitled A piece of me I never let you find. The latter will be available from October 25, via Out of Line Music.
The pain ends when you let go is quite short. This is a rather instrumental introduction, with the vocals being quite far away. We enter gently, with a feeling of floating, into this new opus. The Midnight Sun begins with quite strange sounds but which creates a nice dynamic. The instruments quickly land on top, creating something heavy and captivating. The arrival of the singing will break this rhythm, before quickly turning to clean singing, which provides a certain stability during the chorus. This title has a rather changing and strange rhythm, playing on pauses and quick and short changes. I generally have difficulty with this first title, despite several listens. Ecstacy in Grief begins with something dynamic and aggressive. The instruments seem to be going wild and we added atypical sounds in the background. The whole thing gives a certain impression of speed and that we control nothing. It is the last part which will bring a radical change, switching to a softer atmosphere but which hides its game well because we discover an incredible breakdown.

The introduction to I always knew that we were doomed gives a good rhythm and will be joined by the clean vocals. The whole thing gives a feeling of intimacy and we quickly get into the game. We play on the song which rises gently, before bursting. It becomes stronger and more powerful, tickling our feelings. This title is very well mastered and striking. I really like the effect that the two types of songs give and how they intertwine. The last part ignites much more and the song goes to an even higher level. Fade starts gently. The song seems to be a whisper before becoming a little more imposing. Once again, the different types of songs coexist here and help to create a certain depth. The change is once again radical because after a little over a minute, the level of violence evolves. Only the fairly airy chorus allows us to catch our breath. Drowing Therapy is a fairly gentle track, both in terms of instruments and vocals, but it will be short-lived. We discover an instrumentality which always wants more and which plays with the singing, a true master here.
The sound of roses in bloom is a strange and atmospheric interlude. We have the impression of hearing drops of water falling and we don’t really know where the title is leading us. The atmosphere changes with the addition of electro notes. Eye to Eye (iris) begins with a fairly calm song which bursts out quickly, with a very beautiful and above all surprising scream. We play a lot on the depths and the songs which alternate between clear and serious. The instruments are unleashed and bring just as much violence as the singing. This title highlights very beautiful instrumental passages, which is its real strength. How could you lose is quite rhythmic and the clean vocals will come to rest there. The atmosphere here is quite soft and floating, transporting us and playing with our emotions. We discover a guitar solo which reinforces the depth and gives an interesting aerial side. A very gentle title where you let yourself be carried away.
Permanence in sleep begins with a fairly heavy instrumentality and vocals in the background. This will quickly take its place and brings speed and effects to the piece. Many screams punctuate this track, bringing a nice energy, this also helps to create a nice contrast with the clean singing chorus. Finding Euphoria is the last track of this new album and it opens with something angry in terms of the instruments. The song is quite airy but it will quickly burst out and carry the title. Once again these little breaks in clean singing will be enjoyable and really help the ensemble. The end leaves us no respite and we end this listen with heaviness and gravity.
Cane Hill offers us a surprising new album. They leave violence aside somewhat to offer us pieces where clear singing and gentleness have an important place. Very happy with this new opus, which is full of energy and a chorus that comes first.
