[English version below] En ce dimanche 23 février la tournée européenne de The Devil Wears Prada prenait fin en France, à Paris à la Machine du Moulin Rouge. C’est accompagné de trois groupes que les américains sont venus nous rendre visite cette fois-ci : Senna que nous ne connaissions pas ainsi que Ocean Grove et Kingdom of Giants. Un concert au lineup très solide et qui promettait d’être grandiose. Nous avons eu la chance d’y assister, merci à Opus Live pour l’invitation ainsi qu’à Justine pour les photos !
Il est 18h quand les portes de la Machine du Moulin Rouges s’ouvrent. Avec quatre groupes à l’affiche ce soir, le concert commençait tôt !
C’est Senna qui ouvrait le bal ce soir, le groupe de Metalcore Allemand prenait place sur scène dès 18h15 dans une salle malheureusement encore assez vide. Qu’à cela ne tienne le groupe nous offre une prestation énergique et vachement clean. Au programme : une belle voix claire avec un peu de screamo, une formation assez classique avec un guitariste, un bassiste et un batteur.
Nous arrivons, malheureusement, dans la salle au moment où le groupe entame son second titre, Rain, un morceau super groovy auquel le public a l’air assez réceptif.
Les allemands poursuivent avec Blackout avec le bassiste au chant, un bon duo avec le chanteur principal sur le refrain. Le titre très doux propose néanmoins un breakdown très puissant. À la fin du morceau le vocaliste de la formation prend la parole pour faire crier le public pour TDWP et annonce qu’il reste quelques titres seulement au set de ce soir.
Le public bouge un peu plus sur High Note, sorti récemment (4 février). Le groupe de Metalcore fini sur Rosehip qui parle d’amour et invite le public à se faire un câlin ou à s’embrasser tout en invitant le public à venir leur faire un coucou à leur stand de merchandising à la fin du show.
Il est 18h40 pile quand Ocean Grove, groupe Australien de Nu Metal arrive sur scène en arborant fièrement leurs mulets. Entre temps, la Machine du Moulin Rouge a eu le temps de se remplir pas mal, l’ambiance est donc un peu plus à la fête !
Dès les premières minutes de leur show les Australiens font participer à fond le public en demandant toute sorte de choses dans un public qui s’avère être super réceptif : on saute de partout pendant Fly Away, le pit est ouvert pendant CELL DISISION et on hurle avec Dale, le vocaliste super énergique de la formation pendant Startosphere Love.
Les membres d’Ocean Grove ont définitivement une bonne vibe et s’amusent sur scène. Le bassiste et le chanteur changent de place pendant un morceau ce qui change drastiquement le ton et l’ambiance mais le tout se veut toujours joyeux et plein d’entrain. Certains titres comportent plus de rap mais le tout reste mouvementé avec un vocaliste qui saute sur scène comme un kangourou ou encore le batteur qui nous offre un solo de batterie.
Néanmoins Ocean Grove propose aussi des titres plus chargés en émotion comme LAST DANCE pendant lequel le public allume le flash de son téléphone. Dale prend alors la parole pour dire qu’Ocean Grove est super content d’être de retour en France, qu’ils sont toujours reçus avec beaucoup d’amour.
My disaster derrière refait partir le public sur un pit plus violent et ça fait du bien après s’être reposé pendant un morceau ! Enfin les australiens finissent leur prestation pleine d’énergie en beauté avec Junkie$.
Il est déjà 19h45, et on a pas du tout vu le temps passer, quand Kingdom Of Giants arrive enfin sur scène (il faut reconnaître que si j’aime beaucoup TDWP j’étais surtout là pour eux ce soir!)
Les Américains arrivent sur scène pour un set explosif et lourd comme ils savent si bien en proposer. Leur partie commence avec Asphalt tiré de leur dernier EP de 2024. Un titre qui annonce très bien l’ambiance et qui est chanté en choeur par les fans présents ce soir. C’est sur Night Shift que le groupe poursuit, les deux titres provenant pourtant de deux release différentes se succèdent malgré tout super bien. Kingdom of Giants nous embarque dans une ambiance lourde et mélodique avec ses notes de Synthwave. Le public est décidément conquis et c’est le début du mosh pit pour la soirée.
L’ambiance est loin de redescendre puisque le groupe de Post-Hardcore continue avec Wasted Space, single du dernier EP et qui est littéralement hurlé par le public. On y apprécie le timbre particulier de Dana qui danse sur scène en rythme avec les riffs des musiciens. Alternant décidément les titres de leur dernier album ainsi que ceux du dernier EP on assiste à Blue Dream suivi de Smoke (qui avait été un coup de coeur absolu pour moi lors de l’écoute de Bleeding Star).
Kingdom of giants c’est aussi et surtout des breakdown réussis et donc dans le Pit ça donne de belles choses : du mosh, du circle et du wall of death tout au long du set et notamment sur Scorpion qui suit juste après Smoke. Le set se poursuit dans cette bonne humeur et se fini en apothéose sur la très attendue Wayfinder. Les fans hurlent les paroles et les musiciens donnent tout, le show est à la hauteur de mes espérances. C’était vraiment un super set, ce genre de passage qui vous fait tout oublier ( y compris de prendre des notes !)
Mais la soirée est loin d’être finie et c’est désormais au tour de The Devil Wears Prada, qu’on ne présente même plus, de mettre le feu à la Machine du Moulin Rouge. Il est 20H45 quand la formation arrive sur scène tout sourire : « Bonsoir Morherfuckers ! »
Il n’en faudra pas plus au public pour ouvrir le pit alors même que le premier titre du groupe phare de la soirée n’a pas encore été lancé !
C’est avec Mammoth que les américains démarrent un set plus que mouvementé, dès le départ le guitariste demande un circle pit pendant que Mike hurle un : » Mes amis how are you doing ? « On peut dire que c’est un gros démarrage et le groupe de Metalcore ne laisse pas l’ambiance retomber, il enchaîne directement sur le morceau suivant : Wachtower qui est acclamé par la foule qui hurle les paroles. Les titres s’enchaînent : Danger:wildman et Born to lose, tout se passe tellement vite dans un public déjanté à l’image des américains sur scène.
À la fin du titre, le frontman, prend la parole « Yes, we are, we are here at the machine at the moulin rouge, this is fuckin great ! » are you guys good, even in the back. We are tdwp and we fukin’ love Paris. This song goes to our best friends in France landmarks and it’s called salt ». Le public, dont de nombreuses personnes étaient présentes au concert de Landmarks l’année passée et dont The Devil Wears Prada était l’un des guest, hurle au nom du titre mais aussi du groupe de Metal français, comme pour souligner sa fierté. La formation enchaîne Salt et Broken dans une ambiance légère et festive, et demande sur le second son des crowdsurfeurs qui se feront massivement nombreux pour le plus grand plaisirs des musiciens (et sûrement aussi des agents de sécurité !)
Avant de lancer Ritual Mike demande qui était présent au concert de l’an dernier avec Landmarks, beaucoup de mains se lèvent, le groupe est tout sourire et poursuit son set. L’ entièreté, ou presque, de la salle hurle les paroles avec le groupe qui, demande si tout va bien à la fin de la chanson et ils se lancent dans une cover d’Excision avec le titre Reasons.
Le guitariste prend la parole à la fin du titre et plaisante en disant qu’il a fait 4 ans de français à l’école mais qu’il est nul. C’est dans cette ambiance légère que le groupe lance Noise tout en motivant la foule à faire mieux que Londres et à tout donner. À ces mots le public repart de plus belle et le groupe enchaîne les sons : Termination pendant laquelle Jeremy (guitariste) quitte la scène pour se rendre au bar en passant par la fosse (il avait précédemment demandé au public comment s’y rendre et tout le monde lui avait répondu en montrant le fond de la salle du doigt). La soirée se poursuit dans la même énergie, Mike reprend la parole pour dire que la chanson suivante veut dire beaucoup pour lui, pour le groupe et qu’ils espèrent que pour nous aussi. Il est temps pour TDWP de jouer Chemical pendant laquelle le public entier chante et allume le flash de son téléphone. C’est décidément le moment « émotion » du set.
Une nouvelle pause est faite, le chanteur explique qu’il reste deux chansons, une nouvelle une ancienne pour ce soir. Entre temps plusieurs membres de The Devil Wears Prada se retrouvent avec des bérets rouges sur la tête ! Sacrifice de l’album Color Decay, le titre récent donc, est joué.
Avant de conclure avec le dernier titre de la soirée le groupe remercie encore les fans d’avoir répondus présents au rendez-vous, expliquant que c’était la dernière date de la tournée européenne et qu’ils sont très heureux d’avoir fini en France à Paris. Ils expriment leur gratitude d’être de retour sur une tournée en main car cela faisait longtemps, Joey prend la parole pour lancer un « oui oui baguette » très drôle et ils finissent avec un morceau archi old school acclamé par les fans les plus anciens : Hey John what’s your name again ?
Le groupe remercie encore le public avant de quitter les planches de la Machine du Moulin Rouge. De notre côté on ressort plus que satisfait de ce concert ! On a déjà hâte de revoir TDWP et Kingdom of Giants chez nous !
[ENGLISH VERSION] On this Sunday, February 23rd, The Devil Wears Prada‘s European tour ended in France, in Paris at the Machine du Moulin Rouge. The Americans came to visit us this time with three bands: Senna, whom we didn’t know, as well as Ocean Grove and Kingdom of Giants. A concert with a very solid lineup that promised to be great. We were lucky enough to attend, thanks to Opus Live for the invitation and to Justine for the photos! It’s 6pm when the doors of the Machine du Moulin Rouge open. With four bands on the bill tonight, the concert started early!
Senna opened the show tonight, the German metalcore band took to the stage at 6:15pm in a room that was unfortunately still quite empty. No matter, the band gave us an energetic and really clean performance. On the program: a beautiful clear voice with a bit of screamo, a fairly classic formation with a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer.
We arrive, unfortunately, in the room at the moment when the group begins its second title, Rain, a super groovy piece to which the audience seems quite receptive.
The Germans continue with Blackout with the bassist on vocals, a good duet with the main singer on the chorus. The very soft title nevertheless offers a very powerful breakdown. At the end of the song the vocalist of the group takes the floor to make the audience scream for TDWP and announces that there are only a few songs left in tonight’s set.
The audience moves a little more on High Note, recently released (February 4). The Metalcore group ends with Rosehip which talks about love and invites the audience to hug or kiss each other while inviting the audience to come and say hello to them at their merchandising stand at the end of the show.
It’s exactly 6:40 pm when Ocean Grove, an Australian nu metal band, arrives on stage, proudly sporting their mullets. In the meantime, the Machine du Moulin Rouge has had time to fill up quite a bit, so the atmosphere is a little more festive!
From the first minutes of their show, the Australians get the audience fully involved by asking for all sorts of things from an audience that turns out to be super receptive: people jump everywhere during Fly Away, the pit is open during CELL DISISION and they scream with Dale, the band’s super energetic vocalist during Startosphere Love.
The members of Ocean Grove definitely have a good vibe and are having fun on stage. The bassist and the singer change places during a song, which drastically changes the tone and the atmosphere, but everything is always joyful and full of enthusiasm. Some songs have more rap, but everything remains lively with a vocalist who jumps on stage like a kangaroo or the drummer who offers us a drum solo.
Nevertheless, Ocean Grove also offers more emotionally charged songs like LAST DANCE during which the audience turns on their phone flash. Dale then takes the floor to say that Ocean Grove is super happy to be back in France, that they are always received with a lot of love.
My disaster behind gets the audience going again on a more violent pit and it feels good after having rested for a song! Finally, the Australians finish their energetic performance in style with Junkie$.
It is already 7:45 p.m., and we didn’t see the time go by at all, when Kingdom Of Giants finally arrives on stage (it must be said that if I really like TDWP I was especially there for them tonight!)
The Americans arrive on stage for an explosive and heavy set as they know so well how to offer. Their part begins with Asphalt taken from their latest EP of 2024. A song that announces the atmosphere very well and which is sung in unison by the fans present tonight. The band continues with Night Shift, the two tracks coming from two different releases still follow each other really well. Kingdom of Giants takes us into a heavy and melodic atmosphere with its Synthwave notes. The audience is definitely won over and it’s the start of the mosh pit for the evening.
The atmosphere is far from going down since the post-hardore band continues with Wasted Space, a single from the latest EP and which is literally screamed by the audience. We appreciate the particular tone of Dana who dances on stage in rhythm with the musicians’ riffs. Alternating between the tracks from their latest album and those from the latest EP, we see Blue Dream followed by Smoke (which had been an absolute favorite for me when listening to Bleeding Star).
Kingdom of giants is also and above all successful breakdowns and so in the Pit it gives great things: mosh, circle and wall of death tour throughout the set and especially on Scorpion which follows just after Smoke. The set continues in this good mood and ends in apotheosis on the highly anticipated Wayfinder. The fans scream the lyrics and the musicians give tout, the show lived up to my expectations. It was really a great set, the kind of thing that makes you forget everything (including taking notes!)
But the evening is far from over and it is now the turn of The Devil Wears Prada, who need no introduction, to set the Moulin Rouge Machine on fire. It is 8:45 pm when the band arrives on stage all smiles: « Good evening Morherfuckers! ».
It won’t take more for the audience to open the pit even though the first song of the evening’s flagship group has not yet been launched!
It is with Mammoth that the Americans start a more than eventful set, from the start the guitarist asks for a circle pit while Mike shouts: « My friends how are you doing? » We can say that it is a big start and the metalcore group does not let the atmosphere drop, it continues directly on the next song: Wachtower which is cheered by the crowd who shout the lyrics. The songs follow one after the other: Danger:wildman and Born to lose, everything happens so quickly in a crazy audience like the Americans on stage. At the end of the song, the frontman speaks « Yes, we are, we are here at the machine at the moulin rouge, this is fuckin great! » are you guys good, even in the back. We are tdwp and we fukin’ love Paris. This song goes to our best friends in France landmarks and it’s called salt ». The audience, many of whom were at the Landmarks concert last year and of which The Devil Wears Prada was one of the guests, screams the name of the title but also of the French metal band, as if to underline its pride. The band enchants Salt and Broken in a light and festive atmosphere, and asks for the second song crowdsurfers who will be massively numerous for the greatest pleasure of the musicians (and surely also the security guards!)
Before launching Ritual Mike asks who was present at last year’s concert with Landmarks, many hands go up, the band is all smiles and continues its set. The entirety, or almost, of the room screams the lyrics with the band who, asks if everything is okay at the end of the song and they launch into a cover of Excision with the title Reasons.
The guitarist speaks at the end of the title and jokes by saying that he did 4 years of French at school but that it sucks. It is in this light atmosphere that the group launches Noise while motivating the crowd to do better than London and to give everything. At these words the audience starts again more beautifully and the group continues the sounds: Ending during which Jeremy (guitarist) leaves the stage to go to the bar via the pit (he had previously asked the audience how to get there and everyone had answered him by pointing to the back of the room). The evening continues in the same energy, Mike takes the floor again to say that the next song means a lot to him, to the group and that he hopes that for us too. It is time for TDWP to play Chemical during which the entire audience sings and turns on the flash of their phone. It is definitely the « emotional » moment of the set.
A new break is taken, the singer explains that he has two songs, one new and one old for tonight. In the meantime several members of The Devil Wears Prada find themselves with red berets on their heads! Sacrifice of the album Color Decay, the recent title therefore, is played.
Before concluding with the last title of the evening the group thanks again the fans for having responded to the meeting, explaining that it was the last date of the European tour and that they are very happy to have finished in France in Paris. They express their gratitude to be back on a tour in hand because it had been a long time, Joey takes the floor to launch a very funny « oui oui baguette » and they finish with an archi old school song acclaimed by the oldest fans: Hey John what’s your name again?
The group thanks again the audience before leaving the boards of the Machine du Moulin Rouge. For our part we come out more than satisfied with this concert! We can’t wait to see TDWP and Kingdom of Giants again at home!
