[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] The Defect, duo d’Electronic Rock , est le nouveau projet de Jonny Mcbee (The Browning) et leur premier album Death x Destiny est disponible depuis le 7 février dernier via FiXT.
ANNIHILATE commence avec une intro très Nine Inch Nails mais bien vite les riffs de guitare prennent place et on distingue la voix du frontman même si le calme revient vite pour le premier couplet interprété par la chanteuse du duo, Moon. Un morceau très Industrial Metal avec quelques influences plus Nu-Metal malheureusement pour l’instant ça ne semble pas très convaincant. RUN prend la suite et là encore le tout semble bien lisse dès le départ malgré les influences plus modernes qui auraient pu être bien plus exploitées. Le single INTO THE VOID devient plus intéressant notamment au niveau du chant avec une vraie exploitation des deux voix autant au niveau du chant clair que des cris. DREAMWALKER revient à quelque chose de beaucoup plus Electro tandis que LOST IN THE SHADOWS revient à un morceau avec plus d’influence Metalcore.
IMMORTAL est un feat avec The Browning (peu surprenant) qui lie parfaitement les influences des deux projets mais en soit le morceau est peu original même si il est probablement plus énergiques que les compositions précédentes tout comme DEFIANCE. Le dernier morceau A WAY OUT est plus une ballade plus douce pour conclure ce premier album où on découvre les deux voix sans artifices.
The Defect semblait être un groupe prometteur après les avoir découverts avec INTO THE VOID malheureusement le côté trop Electro est beaucoup trop présent ici pour apprécier vraiment le côté plus Metal. L’album saura quand même trouver sa place dans la discothèque des amateurs de Metal Fusion.

[ENGLISH VERSION] Electronic Rock duo The Defect are the new project of Jonny Mcbee (The Browning), and their debut album Death x Destiny has been available since February 7 via FiXT.
ANNIHILATE kicks off with a very Nine Inch Nails intro, but soon the guitar riffs take over and the frontman’s vocals come into their own, although the calm soon returns for the first verse sung by the duo’s female vocalist, Moon. A very Industrial Metal track with some Nu-Metal influences, unfortunately it doesn’t sound very convincing at the moment. RUN follows, and here again the whole thing sounds very smooth from the outset, despite the more modern influences that could have been much more exploited. The single INTO THE VOID becomes more interesting, particularly in terms of the vocals, with a real exploitation of the two voices, both clear and screaming. DREAMWALKER returns to something much more Electro, while LOST IN THE SHADOWS returns to a more Metalcore-influenced track.
IMMORTAL is a feat with The Browning (hardly surprising) which perfectly reads the influences of both projects, but in itself the track is not very original, even if it is probably more energetic than the previous compositions, just like DEFIANCE. The final track, A WAY OUT, is more of a softer ballad, concluding this debut album in which we discover the two voices without artifice.
The Defect seemed to be a promising band after discovering them with INTO THE VOID, but unfortunately the Electro side is far too present here to really appreciate the more Metal side. The album will nevertheless find its place in the discotheque of Fusion Metal fans.
