[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Simone Simons , chanteuse du groupe Epica, sortira son premier album solo Vermillion le 23 Aout 2024 chez Nuclear Blast. Simone est accompagnée d’Ayreon sur ce projet.
L’album s’ouvre sur Aeterna premier single sorti, le morceau commence par une intro rapide et électro avant de partir dans du symphonique avec la douce voix mélodieuse de Simone, le morceau est très bon avec des choeurs retentissants, sa voix nous transporte dans son univers différent de ce qu’on connaissait jusqu’à présent. A mid-tempo on retrouve une puissance de riffs avec un refrain en latin avant de repartir en sonorités électroniques pour le final du morceau.
Vient ensuite je pense mon morceau préféré de l’album, In love we rust, on retrouve dans le clip une Simone simple qui se livre à nous dans son plus simple appareil (sa vie personnelle ne nous regarde pas mais cela laisse tout comprendre). C’est un très beau morceau sur l’amour ‘It hurts too much to let it go » , la mélodie est lente et mélancolique comme la voix de Simone, jusqu’au solo d’Ayeron Arjen Lucasse.
C’est une belle balade d’une profonde tristesse et déception sur les relations amoureuses vouées à l’échec. Le troisième morceau est un duo avec Alissa White Gluz (Arch Enemy) on retrouve des notes entrainantes avec la voix de Simone mélancolique au début rejointe en chant clair par Alissa avant que celle-ci growl. Alissa nous offre un mélange de chant clair et growl ajouté au chant de Simone et c’est une réussite.
Fight or flight commence par une mélodie mystérieuse et mélancolique avec la voix toute aussi mélancolique de Simone Simons, chanson avec peut-être des remords ou un règlement de comptes « The feeling is done » avec la mélodie langoureuse d’Ayeron en fond. C’est un morceau lent mais très beau avec sa voix magnifique pleine d’emotions.
Au milieu du morceau les harmonies orchestrales des violons nous transportent encore plus dans l’univers d’une Simone Simons qu’on découvre sous un nouveau jour. The weight of my world reprend rapidement avec une intro un peu électro et une voix synthétisée avec de partir dans une vibe dancing avec ce mélange symphonique qui nous ouvre une nouvelle facette de Simone sur cet album. Vient ensuite Vermillon dreams qui commence par un orchestre et du synthé orchestré toujours par Arjen Lucassen. La douce voix de Simone commence sur une mélodie pesante en fond avant de partir dans un synthé de nouveau « I know I’ve lost my world », la mélancolie est bien présente une fois de plus. The core commence par une batterie puissante avec un côté électro toujours avec un refrain rapide avec des choeurs qui growlent qui accompagnent à merveille la voix de la chanteuse. C’est un morceau qui bouge bien.
Dystopia, le morceau suivant commence aussi par une intro synthé avant de repartir dans le symphonique puissant d’Ayeron, avec une batterie puissante et toujours cette voix mélodieuse qui nous transporte. R.E.D nous retrouvons en guest Mark Jansen (Epica). Rise Evolve Dominate est un morceau dans le même style électro que les autres, Dark night of the soul clôt cet album de façon magistrale il commence par une douce mélodie mélancolique, c’’est une balade mélancolique encore.
Vermillon est un très bon album qui change de ce dont nous avons l’habitude avec Epica.
Nous découvrons une nouvelle facette de Simone Simons qui nous fait voyager dans son univers accompagné d’Ayeron.
[ENGLISH VERSION] Simone Simons singer of the group Epica will release her first solo album Vermillion on August 23, 2024 on Nuclear Blast. Simone is accompanied by Ayreon on this project.
The album opens with Aeterna, the first single released, the song begins with a fast and electro intro before going into the symphonic with the sweet melodious voice of Simone, the song is very good with resounding choirs, her voice transports us into her different universe than what we knew until now. At mid tempo we find a power of riffs with a Latin chorus before returning to an electronic sound for the finale of the piece.
Next comes I think my favorite track from the album In love we rust, we find in the clip a simple Simone who opens up to us in her simplest way (her personal life is none of our business but that lets us understand everything). It’s a very beautiful piece about love ‘It hurts too much to let it go‘ the melody is slow and melancholic like Simone‘s voice, up to Ayeron Arjen Lucasse‘s solo. It’s a beautiful ride of deep sadness and disappointment about romantic relationships doomed to failure.
The third piece is a duet with Alissa White Gluz (Arch Enemy) we find lively notes with the voice of Simone melancholy at the beginning joined in clean singing by Alissa before this one grows. Alissa offers us a mixture of clean and growl vocals added to Simone‘s vocals and it is a success. Fight or flight begins with a mysterious and melancholic melody with the equally melancholy voice of Simone Simons, a song with perhaps remorse or a settling of scores “The feeling is done” with the languorous melody of Ayeron in the background. It’s a slow but very beautiful piece with her magnificent voice full of emotion.
In the middle of the piece, the orchestral harmonies of the violins transport us even further into the world of Simone Simons which we discover in a new light.
The weight of my world resumes quickly with a slightly electronic intro and a synthesized voice with a dancing vibe with this symphonic mixture which opens up a new facet of Simone on this album. Then comes Vermillon dreams which begins with an orchestra and synth orchestrated again by Arjen Lucassen.
Simone‘s soft voice begins with a heavy melody in the background before moving into a synth again « I know I’ve lost my world« , the melancholy is very present once again. The core begins with powerful drums with an electro side always with a fast chorus with growing choruses which perfectly accompany the singer’s voice.
It’s a piece that moves well. Dystopia, the following track also begins with a synth intro before returning to the powerful symphonic of Ayeron, with powerful drums and always this melodious voice which transports us. R.E.D we find as guest Mark Jansen (Epica), Rise Evolve Dominate is a piece in the same electro style as the others. Dark night of the soul ends this album in a masterful way. It begins with a soft melancholic melody, it’s another melancholic stroll.
Vermillion is a very good album which changes from what we are used to with Epica. We discover a new side of Simone Simons who takes us on a journey into her world accompanied by Ayeron.
