[English version below] Les japonais de MAN WITH AMISSION sortiront ce 12 mars leur nouvel EP intitulé XV EP. Loin d’être seulement une compilation live de titres que l’on connait déjà, les loups nous présentent également de nouveaux titres. Nous avons eu la chance d’écouter cet EP en avant première : alors qu’en est-il ?
L’EP commence avec Vertigo, un son très court qui comporte tout les éléments de la recette habituelle des japonais : on y retrouve le chant principal de Tokyo Tanaka qui impose de par son timbre, les effets très street apportés par DJ Santa Monica, un solo de guitare très sympa, un moment plus calme avec un effet de reverb et au final on se retrouve avec du bon rock bien accrocheur ! Que demander de plus ?
Circles suit derrière avec un riff sympa et nostalgique par dessus lequel est placé un effet. C’est un titre plus calme mais un coup de coeur total. Le morceau fait un peu penser à la vibe de leur album de 2014 Tales of Purefly. On imagine déjà les chœurs en fond être chantés par les fans en concert ! On a donc hâte d’y assister ! (MAN WITH A MISSION sera de retour en France en octobre pour deux dates à Paris et Lyon).
Reaching the sky est, quant à elle, une musique chantée en japonais , la première partie est assez classique et entrainante, la fin, quant à elle est plus décousue et le chant est rappé. Nous finissons notre chronique avec Whisper of the fake. Le chant se veut plus nasillard : Tokyo Tanaka y est sûrement accompagné de Jean-Ken Jonnhy. Le titre nous plonge une fois encore dans un sentiment de nostalgie et se veut plus calme. Il pourrait s’apparenter à une balade, une manière de finir en douceur l’EP puisque le reste s’avère être une version live de la tournée Kizuna no Kiseki à Mexico, un bonus qui sera apprécié des fans ayant pu s’y rendre car l’année dernière MWAM a fait une grosse tournée mondiale !
Le groupe fête ses 15 ans cette année et ça n’est pas pour nous rajeunir puisque nous les suivons depuis leurs débuts ! Des évènements sont très sûrement à attendre : déjà la tournée européenne a été annoncée pour octobre et celle ci passera par Paris et Lyon. Les fans ont pu découvrir ça la semaine dernière avec joie. Ensuite, le groupe fêtait les 10 ans de son album Tales of Purefly et c’est l’un des albums dans lequel ils ont le plus développé leur lore et qui est donc important dans leur discographie, ils annonçaient des surprises à venir pour fêter cela lors de leur concert de l’année dernière à Paris.
Une chose est sûre cet EP est à l’image de leur carrière : énergique, débordant d’idées et d’émotions, un bon mix de plein de choses que les musiciens de la formation apprécient et assemblent pour créer leur propre identité depuis toujours. Les titres sont majoritairement écrit en anglais, peut-être parce que le groupe s’exporte depuis déjà quelques années avec succès, notamment en Europe mais aussi en Amérique.

[ENGLISH VERSION] The Japanese band MAN WITH A MISSION will release their new EP, XV EP, on March 12th. Far from being just a live compilation of already familiar tracks, the wolves also present us with new tracks. We had the chance to listen to this EP in advance: so what’s it like?
The EP begins with Vertigo, a very distinctive sound that incorporates all the elements of the usual Japanese recipe: we find Tokyo Tanaka‘s lead vocals, his imposing timbre, the very street effects provided by DJ Santa Monica, a very nice guitar solo, a calmer moment with a reverb effect, and finally, we end up with some good, catchy rock! What more could you ask for?
Circles follows with a nice, nostalgic riff overlaid with an effect. It’s a calmer track, but a total favorite. The song is somewhat reminiscent of the vibe of their 2014 album, Tales of Purefly. We can already imagine the background choruses being sung by fans in concert! We can’t wait to see it! (MAN WITH A MISSION will be back in France in October for two dates in Paris and Lyon).
Reaching the Sky is a song sung in Japanese. The first part is quite classic and catchy, while the end is more disjointed and the vocals are rapped. We end our review with Whisper of the Fake. The vocals are more nasal: Tokyo Tanaka is probably accompanied by Jean-Ken Jonnhy. The track once again immerses us in a feeling of nostalgia and is intended to be calmer. It could be considered a ballad, a way to gently end the EP, since the rest turns out to be a live version of the Kizuna no Kiseki tour in Mexico City. This bonus will be appreciated by fans who were able to attend, as last year MWAM went on a major world tour!
The band is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, and that doesn’t make us any younger, since we’ve been following them since their debut! Events are certainly on the horizon: the European tour has already been announced for October, which will take in Paris and Lyon. Fans were delighted to discover this last week. Then, the band celebrated the 10th anniversary of their album Tales of Purefly, one of the albums in which they most developed their lore and is therefore an important part of their discography. They announced upcoming surprises to celebrate this during their concert last year in Paris. One thing is certain, this EP is a reflection of their career: energetic, overflowing with ideas and emotions, a good mix of many things that the musicians of the band have always appreciated and assembled to create their own identity. The songs are mostly written in English, perhaps because the group has been exporting itself for several years now with success, particularly in Europe but also in America.
