LIKE ROSES : After It Ends [FR/EN]

[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Après avoir sorti 3 EP, le duo Pop-Punk/Emo qui nous rendra tous nostalgiques de l’âge d’or des années 2000, LIKE ROSES , s’apprête à sortir son tout premier album After It Ends ce 22 octobre via Hopeless Records.

« Is this all that’s left of me?

[ENGLISH VERSION] After releasing three EPs, the pop-punk/emo duo that will make us all nostalgic for the golden age of the 2000s, LIKE ROSES, is set to release its debut album, *After It Ends*, on October 22 via Hopeless Records.

“Is this all that’s left of me?” sings Amy Schmalkuche as the opening line of the album’s first track, “Sweet!” At times, you get the impression of influences from Boys Like Girls (the opening riff), but with a more modern sound and a rawer, more unpolished voice, almost grunge-style guitar riffs, and above all, it speaks to you of regrets and hopes—in short, it’s the perfect emo track to remind you that you’re still stuck in your nostalgia and waiting for a new My Chemical Romance album, but Like Roses is probably what will make you want to step outside your comfort zone and listen to something other than your old albums gathering dust! A vulnerability imbued with strength—that’s what you feel when listening to “Nowhere.” “I just wanna be happy” it’s the perfect response to all those old emo wimps who whined about their girlfriends leaving them. Here’s the female response that’ll just tell you “You want to be happy—you lost your boyfriend, but deep down you knew he wasn’t right for you, so pick yourself up—you’re stronger than that.” The instrumental and the singer’s voice make the whole thing even more sincere and raw—and that’s probably exactly what we’re looking for when we listen to music today!

“Swallow” is the energy we all need to realize that sometimes we’re better off alone than in bad company (whether in friendship or romance). Like Roses knows how to blend raw emotions with an energetic instrumental that taps into your deepest reserves to make you jump all over the place (and that “Where have you been?” almost screamed in the background before the chorus—pure gold). “Buried” is a track that’s a bit like Stand Atlantic’s Coded but without being purely influenced by anyone else; the duo blends a host of musical influences to create a unique sound that transports us instantly and has us doing a few two-steps in the pit. Then the energy subsides, letting us drift away on something pure with “Light” a guitar-and-vocals ballad—and sometimes that’s all we need to appreciate a quiet track: raw, sincere emotions, unfiltered yet with a touch of restraint… before everything explodes—no more restraint, a rawer edge, and the return of incisive riffs and drums—all of which shatter the tranquility and pull no punches.

“Sheets” is the classic pop-punk track that brings a little sunshine into your life—it’s catchy, it sticks in your head with its super-catchy chorus—in short, once again, Like Roses hits the mark perfectly! “Closer” is the kind of track that’ll grab you and never let go—you’ll already want to let it all hang out and spend your day listening to it on repeat, letting yourself be carried away by the melody and Amy’s voice (seriously, give this girl a Grammy). The album wraps up with “Happier” once again, the perfect finale for this debut album. It’s nothing more and nothing less than the duo’s signature sound, with an ending that’s perhaps a bit abrupt, as if we were in the same room with them and they were simply finishing up their performance.

An album title that sounds like an ending but promises a bright future for Like Rosesshort yet raw, intense, and sincere songs, all wrapped in a nostalgic atmosphere that will remind us all of our teenage years!
