[ENGLISH BELOW] Une nouvelle édition du Day Of Hardcore a eu lieue ce samedi 4 Mai 2024 à La Nef d’Angoulême, nous avons eu l’occasion d’aller y faire un petit tour. Un énorme merci à ma collègue Mary pour les photos, à La Nef et l’organisation pour leur accueil et à Andrew de Comeback Kid et Denise de Kinda pour les accréditations!
Et cette journée placée sous le signe du Hardcore commence avec Calcine, et le moins que l’on puisse dire c’est que le public se chauffe doucement malgré l’énergie prédominante du groupe et surtout de la chanteuse qui nous a proposé une performance incroyable.
Puis c’est au tour de Who I Am et tous ceux qui font des concerts de la scène locale les connaissent. Le groupe n’a plus rien a prouvé et fait monter l’ambiance d’un cran sans pour autant que l’anarchie s’installe.
Et voici venu le temps de la grosse claque de la soirée pour moi, le groupe sur lequel je me suis le plus amusé et c’est Sorcerer. Le chanteur a une telle énergie sur scène qu’il faut apprendre à le suivre et le public est très réceptif, et est composé aussi bien de personnes comme moi qui profite d’un petit festival pour découvrir que de fans du premier jour qui s’habillent en côte de maille (référence à la cover de leur premier album).
Ensuite nous avons eu le droit à Grove Street (les fans de GTA auront reconnu la référence) qui nous proposent une performance qui plait énormément avec un sacré mélange du Beat Hip-Hop des années 90 avec des sons purs Hardcore.
Au tour des allemands de Risk It de faire leur entrée sur scène et c’est dans la continuité du festival, avec une ambiance qui monte de plus en plus au point d’en gâcher le concert pour certains. Des problèmes de sons étaient également présents puisque l’on entendait à peine le chanteur.
La suite m’a marquée car je ne m’attendais pas à une prestance pareille de la part du chanteur de Desolated, aussi bien par son apparence vestimentaire (casquette, capuche, gants et tout en noir), que par son interprétation et son expression scénique sombre. Un groupe aux sonorité plus lentes avec une basse beaucoup plus appuyée que les précèdents qui se démarque sans aucun problème.
Après la claque sur Desolated, il est temps de passer à un des groupes les plus attendus de la soirée à savoir : Arkangel! Le groupe Belge qui compte dans ses rangs des membres de Hangman’s Chair ou encore Wolvennest investit la scène pour faire vibrer la salle au sens propre du terme tant la basse semble hyper forte quand on s’éloigne de la scène. Le pit semble déjà plus discipliné que pour les groupes précédents et l’ambiance est également bien différente à croire que les groupes plus « Old-School » imposent tellement le respect que les moshers font bien plus attention aux autres personnes présentes mais également à leur propre sécurité. Baldur Vilmundarson au chant délivre une performance incroyable mais fera également participer certains membres du public en tendant son micro. Un set de folie et une bonne ambiance font clairement remonter le niveau de cette soirée même si évidemment ça n’allait pas durer…
La soirée va se terminer avec Comeback Kid (et heureusement parce qu’on commence à fatiguer un peu quand même), à peine arrivé sur scène le groupe fout un bordel monstre dans le pit, l’air commence à devenir clairement irrespirable et fera qu’on ne restera pas tout le set (à mon grand désarroi de rater l’iconique Wake The Dead) mais le groupe est toujours hyper énergique en commençant avec False Idols Fall, Heavy Steps ou encore Do Yourself A Favor qui finira d’échauffer les esprits du public. Même si Comeback Kid a sorti un EP récemment, un seul de ces nouveaux titres sera joué ce soir : Trouble In The Winner Circles. En bref, Comeback Kid est toujours une valeur sûre sur scène dont tout le monde attends les morceaux classiques avec grande impatience mais les nouveaux titres ne sont pas vraiment bien représentés (dans un certains sens certains seront ravis)!

A new edition of Day Of Hardcore took place this Saturday, May 4, 2024 at La Nef in Angoulême, and we had the opportunity to go along for the ride.
A huge thanks to my colleague Mary for the photos, to La Nef and the organization for their warm welcome, and to Andrew from Comeback Kid and Denise from Kinda for the invitations.
And this day of hardcore begins with Calcine, and the least we can say is that the audience warms up slowly, despite the predominant energy of the band and especially of the singer, who delivers an incredible performance.
Then it’s Who I Am‘s turn, and anyone who goes to concerts on the local scene knows them. The band have proved themselves beyond any doubt, and take the atmosphere up a notch without any anarchy setting in.
And now it’s time for the big slap in the face of the evening for me, the band I had the most fun with, and it’s Sorcerer. The singer has so much energy on stage that you have to learn to keep up with him, and the audience is very receptive, made up as much of people like me who are taking advantage of a small festival to discover new things, as of die-hard fans who dress up in cote de maille (a reference to the cover of their first album).
Next up was Grove Street (GTA fans will recognize the reference), who put on a hugely enjoyable performance, blending 90s hip-hop beats with pure hardcore sounds.
It was the turn of Germany’s Risk It to take to the stage, and it was a continuation of the festival, with the atmosphere building to the point of spoiling the concert for some. Sound problems were also present, with the singer barely audible.
What followed left a lasting impression on me, as I didn’t expect the Desolated singer to have such a commanding presence, both in terms of his attire (cap, hood, gloves and all in black), his performance and his dark stage expression. A slower-sounding band, with a much heavier bass than their predecessors, that stands out without a hitch.
After the smash hit Desolated, it’s time to move on to one of the most eagerly-awaited bands of the evening: Arkangel! The Belgian band, whose line-up includes members of Hangman’s Chair and Wolvennest, take to the stage to rock the house in the truest sense of the word, as the bass sounds so loud when you move away from the stage. The pit already seemed more disciplined than for the previous bands, and the atmosphere was also very different, suggesting that the more ‘old-school’ bands commanded so much respect that the moshers paid much more attention to the other people in the crowd, as well as to their own safety. Baldur Vilmundarson on vocals delivers an incredible performance, but also gets some members of the audience involved by holding out his microphone. A crazy set and a great atmosphere clearly raised the level of this evening, even if it obviously wasn’t going to last…
The evening comes to a close with Comeback Kid (and thankfully so, because we’re getting a bit tired anyway), and as soon as they take to the stage the band cause a huge mess in the pit, the air starting to become clearly unbreathable and we won’t be able to stay for the whole set (much to my dismay at missing the iconic Wake The Dead) but the band are still super energetic, starting with False Idols Fall, Heavy Steps and Do Yourself A Favor, which will finish by warming up the audience. Although Comeback Kid recently released an EP, only one of the new tracks will be played tonight: Trouble In The Winner Circles. In short, Comeback Kid are still a safe bet on stage, with everyone eagerly awaiting their classic tracks, but the new ones aren’t really well represented (in a way, some will be delighted)!
