[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] En ce jour du Blue Monday (le jour le plus déprimant de l’année) quoi de mieux que de se plonger dans l’écoute du nouvel album du groupe danois Harakiri For The Sky, Scorched Earth, qui sera disponible ce vendredi 24 janvier via AOP Records?
Ce nouvel opus s’ouvre avec Heal Me en collaboration avec Tim du groupe Austère, un morceau qui explose rapidement en un Post-Black Metal très dépressif auquel les deux groupes nous ont déjà habitués, c’est toujours beau et très torturé notamment dans les cris des vocalistes et c’est probablement ce que tout fan de HFTS attend d’un de leurs morceaux. Sur Keep Me Longing on retrouve les diverses influences de Harakiri avec notamment une introduction mélancolique au piano, des mélodies plus éthérées de Folk et toujours des parties plus brutes empruntées autant au DSBM qu’au Post-Metal. Harakiri For The Sky n’est pas un qu’un groupe de Post Black-Metal et le prouve encore une fois avec ce nouveau morceau dévoilé pour la promotion de l’album. Tout comme le titre précédent Without You I’m Just A Sad Song est un morceau très long (plus de 10 minutes) mais invite encore une fois les auditeurs entre fureur noire et moments de mélancolie/réflexion intense.
Le single With Autumn I’ll Surrender est sorti depuis quelques temps et montrait la nouvelle évolution du groupe, une bonne idée en soit pour préparer la fan-base du groupe aux nouvelles sonorités du groupe comme le clavier couplé avec les notes de piano mais aussi les influences plus Folk qui font de ce morceau un des titres les plus accessibles mais aussi accrocheurs de ce nouvel opus. I Was Just Another Promise You Couldn’t Keep montre encore une fois que le groupe est bien connu pour amener tout un tas d’émotions à l’écoute de sa musique ce qui en fera sûrement grincer des dents (les puristes par exemple). Too Late For Goodbyes est un duo avec Serena Cherry du groupe Svalbard, le chant clair de la vocaliste apporte une touche de douceur voir de lumière à un morceau bien sombre où l’influence Black Metal est particulièrement mise en valeur. Ultime morceau et ultime collaboration cette fois-ci avec P.G du groupe Groza sur Street Spirit (Fade Out), cover du groupe Radiohead est un ajout surprenant tout comme l’avait été Song To Say Goodbye de Placebo mais là encore Harakiri For The Sky s’est totalement réapproprié ce titre presque exclusivement interprété en chant clair tout en gardant les cris torturés en arrière-plan.
Harakiri For The Sky délivre ici un bel album tout en gardant un certain équilibre avec leur précédent opus Maere. Le duo se montre toujours créatif et innovant en incorporant de nouvelles sonorités et en s’entourant de certains des plus beaux noms de la scène Metal Extrême actuelle!

[ENGLISH VERSION] On this Blue Monday (the most depressing day of the year), what better way to get into the swing of things than to listen to the new album from Danish band Harakiri For The Sky, Scorched Earth, which will be available this Friday 24 January via AOP Records?
This new opus opens with Heal Me in collaboration with Tim from Austère, a track that quickly explodes into the kind of depressive post-Black Metal we’ve come to expect from these two bands. It’s always beautiful and tortured, particularly in the screams of the vocalists, and that’s probably what every HFTS fan wants from one of their tracks. On Keep Me Longing we find Harakiri‘s various influences, with a melancholy piano introduction, more ethereal folk melodies and still some more raw parts borrowed from both DSBM and Post-Metal. Harakiri For The Sky are not just a Post Black Metal band, and prove it once again with this new track unveiled to promote the album. Like the previous track Without You I’m Just A Sad Song is a very long track (over 10 minutes) but once again invites listeners in between black fury and moments of intense melancholy/reflection.
The single With Autumn I’ll Surrender has been out for some time now, showing the band’s new evolution, a good idea in itself to prepare the band’s fan-base for the new sounds of the band, like the keyboard coupled with the piano notes, but also the more Folk influences that make this track one of the most accessible but also catchy tracks on this new opus. I Was Just Another Promise You Couldn’t Keep shows once again that the band are well known for bringing a whole host of emotions to their music, which is sure to make some people cringe (purists, for example). Too Late For Goodbyes is a duet with Serena Cherry from the band Svalbard, the singer’s clear vocals bringing a touch of softness and even light to a very dark track where the Black Metal influence is particularly highlighted. The final track and final collaboration, this time with P.G from Groza on Street Spirit (Fade Out), a Radiohead cover, is a surprising addition, as was Placebo‘s Song To Say Goodbye, but here too Harakiri For The Sky have totally reappropriated this track, almost exclusively sung in clear vocals, while keeping the tortured screams in the background.
Harakiri For The Sky deliver a fine album here, while maintaining a certain balance with their previous opus, Maere. The duo are as creative and innovative as ever, incorporating new sounds and surrounding themselves with some of the finest names on today’s Extreme Metal scene!
