[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Après leur dernier album Coagulated Bliss sorti l’an dernier, le groupe américain de Powerviolence, Full Of Hell propose cette année un nouvel EP, Broken Sword , Rotten Shield qui est disponible depuis le vendredi 16 mai 2025 via Closed Casket Activities.
C’est le morceau qui donne son nom à ce nouvel EP qui va ouvrir les 15 minutes de Powerviolence/Grindcore qui compose Broken Sword, Rotten Shield! Une influence Hardcore va quand même se greffer à cette composition agressive et brutale à souhait. Les gutturaux du vocaliste vont s’allier à merveille sur un instrumental tout aussi féroce! From Dog’s Mouth, a Blessing est le titre le plus court ici (49 secondes ça passe très vite) un morceau plus influencé Noise alimenté par une énergie presque Punk et on en redemanderait presque. Suit le morceau Corpselight qui baigne quand à lui dans un univers plus Indus, très sombre et très atmosphérique, une influence que j’avais particulièrement aimé sur le remix de Chelsea Wolfe par Full Of Hell. C’est très immersif et les hurlements qui déchirent cette beauté ressembleraient presque à ceux d’un grand méchant loup qui nous poursuit tout long du titre. Lament Of All Things possède quand à lui une approche presque plus Grunge, c’est probablement une des compositions avec le plus de « mélodies » sur cet EP. Mirrorhelm revient à ce que pouvait proposer Corpselight , Full Of Hell propose ici un morceau d’ambiance où seule une voix qui semble lointaine accompagne l’auditeur avant le single Knight’s Oath, un titre sombre mais qui semble également moins brutal que les brûlots présents sur cet opus. La rage étant limitée uniquement aux parties vocales qui accentuent le côté plus sombre voir presque démoniaque du titre. Le dernier et plus long titre de cet EP (4:06) To Ruin and the World’s Ending est une collaboration avec le groupe KRUELTY, plusieurs influences se retrouvent dans ce final comme des passages Doom mâtiné Sludge , un chant presque Black Metal, du Noise Rock mais également un côté plus Death Metal pour un final sombre et oppressant comme on les aime!
Full Of Hell fait du Full Of Hell mais surtout le fait bien ! Les fans de la première heure ne devraient donc pas être dépaysés par ce nouvel EP. Pour ceux qui ne connaîtraient pas le groupe et seraient amateurs de genres plus extrêmes, jetez une oreille à Broken Sword, Rotten Shield, vous ne serez pas déçus!

[ENGLISH VERSION] After their last album, Coagulated Bliss, released last year, the American Powerviolence band Full Of Hell is offering a new EP this year, Broken Sword , Rotten Shield, available since Friday, May 16, 2025 via Closed Caskets Activities.
The track that gives its name to this new EP opens the 15 minutes of Powerviolence/Grindcore that make up Broken Sword, Rotten Shield! A hardcore influence is nevertheless added to this aggressive, brutal composition. The vocalist’s guttural vocals combine perfectly with an equally ferocious instrumental! From Dog’s Mouth, a Blessing is the shortest track here (49 seconds goes by very quickly), a more Noise-influenced track fueled by an almost Punk energy that almost makes you want more. This is followed by Corpselight, a more Indus-influenced track, very dark and atmospheric, an influence I particularly liked on Full Of Hell‘s remix of Chelsea Wolfe. It’s very immersive, and the howls that rip through this beauty almost sound like those of a big bad wolf chasing us throughout the track. Lament Of All Things takes an almost grunge-like approach, and is probably one of the most “melodic” compositions on this EP. Mirrorhelm is a return to the Corpselight style, with Full Of Hell offering an atmospheric track in which only a distant voice accompanies the listener, before the single Knight’s Oath, a dark track that also sounds less brutal than the blistering tracks on this opus. The rage is limited solely to the vocal parts, which accentuate the track’s darker, almost demonic side. The final and longest track on the EP (4:06), To Ruin and the World’s Ending, is a collaboration with KRUELTY, and features a number of influences, such as Doom with Sludge overtones, almost Black Metal vocals, Noise Rock and a more Death Metal feel, for a dark, oppressive finale just the way we like it!
Full Of Hell does Full Of Hell, but does it well! Fans of the band from the very beginning shouldn’t be disappointed by this new EP. For those unfamiliar with the band and fans of more extreme genres, take a listen to Broken Sword, Rotten Shield, you won’t be disappointed!
