[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Le groupe de Death Metal Texan, Frozen Soul sera de retour ce vendredi 8 mai avec son troisième méfait studio, No Place Of Warmth qui sortira via Century Media Records.
C’est avec le titre éponyme No Place Of Warmth que va s’ouvrir ce nouvel album! Une intro angoissante rappelant les vieux slashers des années 80-90 avant que les riffs froids et incisifs ainsi que la rythmique martiale ne viennent prendre le relai. Le vocaliste Chad Green vient vite rafraîchir encore plus l’ambiance avec ses rugissements démoniaques et profonds sur ce morceau qui va ravager les nuques de certains. Mais la surprise est totale puisqu’ici Frozen Soul sont rejoints par rien de moins que l’iconique Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance) qui viendra surprendre en injectant un chant plus Black Metal à l’ensemble dans une partie teintée du Death Metal Old-School mais aussi des influences plus Hardcore de la formation. Les voix des deux vocalistes finiront par fusionner pour le final pour un rendu vraiment intéressant avant que Invoke War A.K.A un des rouleau compresseur de cet album ne résonne avec un Chad Green et ses parties vocales toujours plus immersives mais là encore le groupe a su s’entourer et c’est Rob Flynn de Machine Head qui va les rejoindre ici pour rendre le morceau encore plus écrasant et plus lourd. Invoke War est lourd, efficace et peut-être un peu simple dans sa construction mais au final, ce titre deviendra un des meilleurs morceaux de Frozen Soul en live tout en abordant le sujet de la santé mentale et au combat face au deuil ou encore à la dépression et se veut être l’hymne parfait pour se relever plus fort!
Absolute Zero est très courte (moins d’une minute) avec également une portée politique (prise de position de Frozen Soul contre l’autoritarisme et ceux qui le font régner avec une mention indirecte à ICE), mais le titre est littéralement violent et frappe très fort, pas besoin de fioritures! Dreadnought commence comme un film d’horreur, le groupe va littéralement nous rouler dessus et ça commence avec la ligne de basse de Samantha Mobley mais également cette rythmique plus lente et insidieuse. Encore une fois ils ne sont pas seuls sur ce titre puisque Devin Swank de Sanguisugabogg vient poser sa voix ici et évidemment tout est rendu plus dévastateur que le BOGG s’invite! Chaos Will Reign vient plonger dans les racines plus Hardcore de la formation mais toujours avec cette lourdeur menaçante et froide, Eyes Of Despair va continuer à nous écraser tandis que Ethereal Dreams va instaurer un climat inquiétant.
Skinned By The Wind pourrait presque être vu comme un interlude, une voix samplée sortie tout droit des abysses suivie par une rythmique hyper entraînante et les hurlements du chanteur, c’est court mais c’est aussi gras tout en restant assez pesant. Puis on enchaîne avec le dernier single en date DEATHWEAVER et ses montées en puissance qui ne nous lâcherons pas une seule seconde pour ce morceau très influencé par la mouvance Death Metal des années 90 suivi par Frost Forged qui propose quelque chose de plus moderne mais qui ne perd rien de son authenticité et qui finit de nous matraquer sur son final. A croire que dix morceaux ce n’était pas suffisant, Frozen Soul nous lâche un ultime titre Killin Time (Until it’s Time to Kill) qui donnera autant envie de se jeter à corps perdu dans un pit avec sa très bonne énergie mais aussi d’headbanger joyeusement et n’oublions pas le passage où seules la voix et la basse fusionnent pour donner un résultat effroyablement bon!
Frozen Soul avait déjà mis la barre très haut avec leur album précédent mais No Place Of Warmth continue à pousser le groupe au sommet! C’est efficace, brutal et authentique au final tout ce qu’on aime dans un groupe de Death Metal et qu’on espère voir en live très vite.

[ENGLISH VERSION] The Texan death metal band Frozen Soul are set to return this Friday, 8 May, with their third studio album, *No Place Of Warmth*, which will be released via Century Media Records.
The new album kicks off with the title track, *No Place Of Warmth*! A harrowing intro reminiscent of old-school slasher films from the 80s and 90s, before cold, incisive riffs and a martial rhythm take over. Vocalist Chad Green quickly adds even more intensity to the atmosphere with his deep, demonic roars on this track, which is set to leave some listeners reeling. But the surprise is complete, as here Frozen Soul are joined by none other than the iconic Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance), who throws a curveball by injecting a more Black Metal-style vocal into the mix, in a section tinged with Old-School Death Metal but also the band’s more Hardcore influences. The voices of the two vocalists eventually merge for the finale, creating a truly compelling effect, before ‘Invoke War’—a veritable steamroller of a track on this album—resounds with Chad Green and his ever-more-immersive vocals; yet again, the band has surrounded themselves with talent, and it is Rob Flynn of Machine Head who joins them here to make the track even more crushing and heavier. “Invoke War” is heavy, effective and perhaps a little simple in its construction, but ultimately, this track will become one of Frozen Soul’s best live numbers, whilst tackling the subject of mental health and the struggle with grief or depression, and aims to be the perfect anthem for rising stronger!
Absolute Zero is very short (less than a minute) and also has a political dimension (Frozen Soul’s stance against authoritarianism and those who enforce it, with an indirect reference to ICE), but the track is literally violent and packs a massive punch – no frills needed! Dreadnought begins like a horror film; the band literally run us over, starting with Samantha Mobley’s bassline and that slower, more insidious rhythm. Once again, they’re not alone on this track, as Devin Swank from Sanguisugabogg lends his vocals here – and naturally, everything becomes even more devastating when BOGG joins in! Chaos Will Reign dives into the band’s more hardcore roots, yet retains that menacing, cold heaviness; Eyes Of Despair continues to crush us, whilst Ethereal Dreams sets an unsettling atmosphere.
Skinned By The Wind could almost be seen as an interlude: a sampled voice straight out of the abyss, followed by a highly infectious rhythm section and the singer’s screams. It’s short but it packs a punch, whilst remaining quite heavy. Then we move on to the latest single, DEATHWEAVER, with its building intensity that won’t let up for a single second on this track, heavily influenced by the 90s Death Metal scene, followed by Frost Forged, which offers something more modern yet loses none of its authenticity, finishing by hammering us with its finale. As if ten tracks weren’t enough, Frozen Soul throw in one final track, ‘Killin’ Time (Until it’s Time to Kill)’, which will make you want to throw yourself headlong into a mosh pit thanks to its incredible energy, but also to headbang joyfully – and let’s not forget the section where only the vocals and bass merge to create a terrifyingly good result!
Frozen Soul had already set the bar very high with their previous album, but No Place Of Warmth continues to propel the band to the top! It’s effective, brutal and authentic – ultimately everything we love in a death metal band, and one we hope to see live very soon.
