Le groupe italien Elvenking nous présente son nouvel album intitulé Rites Of Disclosure, disponible le 22 mai 2026 par le label Reaper Entertainment.
L’univers d’Elvenking s’ouvre devant nous avec Blizzards Of Anger, un puissant torrent d’énergie capable de calmer ou de démarrer n’importe quelle tempête de rage, avec sa batterie frénétique et ses chants graves, le groupe montre toutes les possibilités dans cet album. Après la colère c’est la transformation qui est à l’honneur avec Rite Of Passage, un tempo plus mesuré, plus pesant qui représente une vraie bombe à retardement de puissance. L’ambiance se calme avec The Past Is Forever qui apporte un brin de nostalgie dans cette aventure.
Il ne manquait plus qu’une ballade pour compléter la bingo card de cet opus, et c’est The Moon And Magic qui s’en occupe avec beaucoup de douceur et un rythme simple digne d’une valse à trois temps, et cela va continuer avec Ethel et son esprit jovial et presqu’enfantin sous couvert d’une obscurité sous jacente comme le montre l’interlude instrumental. C’est à ce moment que tout explose puisqu’Arrival nous embarque directement dans la phase Power Folk Metal avec une ardeur démesurée où l’on penserait que c’est un autre groupe qui a pris le relai.
Le tempo ralentit d’un cran pour laisser place à plus d’émotion dans No Prayer For The Dying, fini la batterie frénétique et la guitare aux influences Heavy et laissons passer la mélancolie et la tristesse des champs de bataille. Un nouvel espoir apparait avec Children Of Decadence, qui vient remonter le niveau avec beaucoup de punch et hargne. Man Of Iron va rejoindre la liste de ballades déjà présentes, une de plus qui apporte une tristesse supplémentaire pour une courte interlude, là où Salt On The Earth va revenir aux fondamentaux de folk et mettre plus en avant le violon qui va se faire porter par un Metal agressif, pour finir avec Prime Evil qui offre une conclusion classique et sans superflu.
Elvenking nous propose un album assez répétitif et classique dans sa construction. Il n’y aucune surprise et d’effet en lien avec leur style et l’ambiance. C’est un album qui peut s’écouter de façon complétement déstructurée et indépendante. A voir en live si la prestation et les décors arrivent à remonter le niveau et offrir ce qu’il manque à cet opus.

Elvenking’s world unfolds before us with Blizzards Of Anger, a powerful torrent of energy capable of calming or igniting any storm of rage; with its frenetic drums and deep vocals, the band showcases its full range of possibilities on this album. After the anger, transformation takes center stage with Rite Of Passage, a more measured, heavier tempo that serves as a true ticking time bomb of power. The mood calms down with The Past Is Forever, which brings a touch of nostalgia to this adventure.
All that was missing was a ballad to complete the bingo card of this album, and The Moon And Magic takes care of that with great tenderness and a simple rhythm worthy of a waltz in three-four time, and this continues with Ethel and its cheerful, almost childlike spirit beneath an underlying darkness, as shown by the instrumental interlude. That’s when everything explodes, as Arrival plunges us straight into the Power Folk Metal phase with such unbridled intensity that you’d think another band had taken over.
The tempo slows down a notch to make room for more emotion in No Prayer For The Dying; gone are the frenetic drums and heavy-influenced guitar, giving way to the melancholy and sadness of the battlefields. New hope emerges with Children Of Decadence, which raises the bar with plenty of punch and aggression. Man Of Iron joins the existing list of ballads, adding another layer of sadness for a brief interlude, while Salt On The Earth returns to folk roots and highlights the violin, which is carried by aggressive metal, ending with Prime Evil, which offers a classic, no-frills conclusion.
Elvenking offers us an album that is fairly repetitive and classic in its structure. There are no surprises or effects that deviate from their style and atmosphere. It’s an album that can be listened to completely on its own, without any particular order. It’s worth seeing live to see if the performance and stage setup can raise the bar and provide what this album is missing.
