Le groupe de metalcore australien Dream on, Dreamer est de retour suite à leur album What if I told you it doesn’t get better (2020), avec Heavens, disponible depuis le 1er mai.
White Room ouvre tout en douceur, le chant est accompagné d’une seule sonorité. La voix est mise en avant, prenant petit à petit de plus en plus d’ampleur et semble se rapprocher. C’est la dernière partie qui change, suite à une sorte de crépitement qui assombrit les choses et qui va en opposition avec le chant. Les deux s’entrelacent et viennent s’y mêler des notes au piano et des chœurs, clôturant parfaitement ce premier morceau. All my Life débute avec une introduction atmosphérique et le chant est seulement en fond. On poursuit avec la douceur du premier titre qui continue ici. La guitare est assez discrète jusqu’à l’arrivée des autres instruments qui arrivent en force. Ils apporte un certain dynamisme et le chant accélère, tout en conservant ce côté doux. On alterne entre différents passages instrumentaux et cela crée un beau contraste. Se dévoile un moment intense où toutes les sonorités se mêlent et donnent quelque chose d’aérien et de touchant. Follow me to Forever débute avec le chant, seul et cela crée un fort sentiment de douceur mais aussi d’intimité. Les instruments arrivent, semblant planer en fond, avant de prendre de plus en plus d’ampleur. On découvre des passages aériens, assez intenses et qui donnent une bonne impulsion à l’ensemble. La fin vient reprendre la douceur du début, tout aussi captivante et passant au niveau au-dessus, clôturant le titre de manière puissante.

Dans Focused on Heaven, les instruments apportent une belle dynamique tout en installant une sensation de calme à l’arrivée du chant. On rentre rapidement dans le jeu et le groupe crée rapidement une belle alternance. Le chant nous transporte totalement, avec des moments aériens et d’autres plus proches du murmure. Un morceau qui passe à une vitesse folle et auquel on accroche forcément. Seraphim débute dans un véritable tourbillon, jusqu’au chant qui crée une tout autre ambiance, plus dense mais qui le met en avant également. Le refrain vient dynamiser le tout et signe le retour des instruments, qui jouent beaucoup sur les hauteurs. La chose se développe, toujours plus entraînant et ouvre à des chœurs sur la deuxième partie. Après un moment plus doux, le groupe termine sur quelque chose de plus brut, de plus intense. Back to You débute avec un chant puissant et quelques sonorités dans le fond. Il tire en longueur les choses, apportent de la douceur et cela crée une ambiance différente et un sentiment de curiosité. Le titre se développe tout du long et permet une petite pause dans notre écoute.
Like Crystal dévoile une ambiance assez atmosphérique, le chant arrive avec quelques sonorités en fond qui donnent le ton. L’ensemble explose et laisse la place aux instruments, conduisant à quelque chose de très aérien. On oscille vers quelque chose de plus sombre, plus bas et intense. On crée de belles profondeurs, aidé par des chœurs qui changent quelque peu la donne. Dans Since You Left, le chant vient donner un tout autre ton. On nous dévoile un côté plus lumineux et les sonorités évoluent rapidement. Les instruments viennent s’y insérer rapidement et apportent plus d’énergie, oscillant entre deux rythmes alors que le chant semble plus linéaire. La vraie force ici réside dans le refrain qui nous emporte totalement avec lui. All in the Sun a un petit côté atmosphérique. Le chant est lointain et ne va pas prendre sa première place tout de suite. Quand cela arrive, il est seul, il prend son temps et c’est la batterie qui vient s’ajouter, rythmant le tout. On accélère par la suite, jouant sur différents thèmes et incorporant beaucoup de sonorités, donnant un titre assez complet.

C’est le chant qui vient prendre toute la place dans The War Within. Les instruments s’ajoutent plus tardivement et l’ensemble semble plus dense, plus investi avant d’éclater après une bonne minute. Ils nous emporte avec eux dans quelque chose de très aérien mais qui retombe tout aussi vite. Ils jouent avec les rythmes, nous font passer par pleins d’émotions et ponctuent de quelques passages plus brut qui vient donner plus de matière à l’ensemble. Everything vient clôturer l’album et il s’agit d’un morceau simple. Il débute avec une guitare, nous surprenant quelque peu auquel le chant va venir se greffer, duo fonctionnant immédiatement. L’instrumentalité va prendre un peu plus d’ampleur au fil des minutes, tout en conservant une certaine douceur.
Dream on, Dreamer nous livre un nouvel album qui nous transporte totalement. Il oscille entre moment dynamique et d’autres plus doux, plus sentimentaux, continuant à creuser leur univers.

Australian metalcore band Dream on, Dreamer is back following their album What if I told you it doesn’t get better (2020), with Heavens, available since May 1st.
White Room opens gently, the vocals accompanied by a single sound. The voice is brought to the fore, gradually gaining in volume and seeming to draw closer. It’s the final section that changes, following a kind of crackling sound that darkens the atmosphere and contrasts with the vocals. The two intertwine, blended with piano notes and backing vocals, perfectly concluding this first track. All My Life begins with an atmospheric introduction, the vocals only in the background. The gentleness of the first track continues here. The guitar is quite discreet until the other instruments enter with force. They bring a certain dynamism, and the vocals accelerate, while retaining their soft quality. The track alternates between different instrumental passages, creating a beautiful contrast. An intense moment unfolds where all the sounds blend together, resulting in something ethereal and moving. Follow Me to Forever begins with the vocals alone, creating a strong sense of gentleness and intimacy. The instruments enter, seemingly floating in the background, before gradually swell in intensity. We discover ethereal, quite powerful passages that give the whole piece a strong momentum. The ending returns to the gentleness of the beginning, equally captivating and taking it to the next level, closing the track in a powerful way.

In Focused on Heaven, the instruments create a beautiful dynamic while establishing a sense of calm with the arrival of the vocals. You’re quickly drawn in, and the band rapidly creates a wonderful interplay. The vocals completely transport you, with moments of ethereal beauty and others closer to a whisper. It’s a track that flies by and is impossible to resist. Seraphim begins in a veritable whirlwind, culminating in the vocals which create a completely different, denser atmosphere that also brings them to the forefront. The chorus energizes everything and signals the return of the instruments, which make extensive use of the higher registers. The song develops, becoming increasingly catchy and opening up to backing vocals in the second half. After a gentler moment, the band finishes with something rawer and more intense. Back to You begins with a powerful vocal and some background sounds. It takes its time, introducing moments of gentleness that create a different atmosphere and a sense of curiosity. The track develops throughout, allowing for a brief pause in the listening experience.
Like Crystal unveils a rather atmospheric ambiance, the vocals arriving with a few background sounds that set the tone. The whole thing explodes and gives way to the instruments, leading to something very ethereal. We oscillate towards something darker, deeper, and more intense. Beautiful depths are created, aided by choirs that somewhat alter the dynamic. In Since You Left, the vocals take on a completely different tone. A brighter side is revealed, and the sounds evolve rapidly. The instruments quickly join in, adding more energy and oscillating between two rhythms, while the vocals seem more linear. The real strength here lies in the chorus, which completely sweeps us away. All in the Sun has a slightly atmospheric feel. The vocals are distant and don’t immediately take center stage. When they do, they stand alone, taking their time, and the drums then join in, providing the rhythm. The pace then picks up, playing with different themes and incorporating a wide range of sounds, resulting in a fairly complete track.

The vocals take center stage in The War Within. The instruments are added later, and the overall sound feels denser, more intense, before exploding after a good minute. They sweep us away into something ethereal, but it falls just as quickly. They play with rhythms, taking us through a range of emotions and punctuating the track with a few rawer passages that add more substance to the whole. Everything closes the album, and it’s a simple track. It begins with a guitar, somewhat surprising us, to which the vocals are then added, a duo that works immediately. The instrumentals gradually expand as the minutes pass, while maintaining a certain gentleness.
Dream on, Dreamer delivers a new album that completely transports us. It oscillates between dynamic moments and others that are softer and more sentimental, continuing to explore their universe.
