[English version below] Annisokay est de retour avec un nouvel EP intitulé Abyss Part II sorti chez Arising Empire ce 11 avril dernier. Et en effet il s’agit là de la suite du dernier EP en date sorti en 2023 et nommé Abyss. Le groupe de Metalcore allemand semble avoir poussé le concept plus loin : les covers des deux EP forment un visage collées l’une à l’autre. Une continuité donc, mais qu’en dire après une attente de un an et demi ?
L’EP commence avec douceur pour Get the shit together. Enfin, cela sera de courte durée puisque les allemands nous propose un titre dont l’intensité monte petit à petit. Et bon sang quel plaisir ! Nous ne sommes pas déçus car on y retrouve tout ce que l’on aime d’eux : l’ambiance un peu electro, une voix claire, douce, accompagnée d’un screamo puissant et surtout : un break abyssal. Court mais terriblement efficace. À la première écoute de leur release, on comprend qu’on ne sera pas déçu, bien au contraire ! Never Enough placée derrière ce premier titre propose un son à la basse puissante accompagnée de powercordes efficaces à la guitare. Le titre est entraînant et on ne peux pas s’empêcher de l’imaginer en live. Annisokay semble avoir trouvé un style qui lui convient avec un tempo rapide, un fond agrémenté d’effets électroniques et des titres très catchy.
Oblivion poursuit dans cette même lignée. L’ambiance est sombre, planante, on penserait presque entendre du Northlane ! Le growl puissant donne de la matière au son qui passe beaucoup trop vite. On se retrouve à le lancer une seconde fois lors de notre première écoute pour en apprécier une nouvelle fois la consistance. Le breakdown est une explosion de colère boosté par l’électro de l’instrumental, le morceau se termine sur ce dernier.
Into the gray se lance après ce déchaînement comme pour apaiser le tout. On assiste à un titre fort en émotion et beaucoup plus doux, on y apprécie le timbre du chanteur de la formation et on imagine qu’il s’agira d’une pause bien méritée en version live ! Décidément l’EP nous présente des titres divers et tous très efficace. Mais surtout tous semblent très bien fonctionner ensemble ! H.A.T.E repart dans la violence après cette courte accalmie. Les allemands d’Annisokay nous proposent ici un feat avec Any Given Day. Les énergies des deux groupes marchent bien ensemble : le chanteur d‘Any Given Day a une voix drastiquement différente de celle de Christoph. Celui-ci complète donc très bien ce titre un peu différent sur le point de vue vocal et cela donne un breakdown maîtrisé mais différent et donc intéressant.
Inner Sanctum vient clôturer cet EP que nous avons dévoré en boucle après notre première écoute. Le titre est plus calme mais toujours aussi entraînant. Il termine Abyss Part II avec des mélodies qui nous restent en tête. L’instrumentale est propre, lourde et travaillée, loin d’être lisse le titre est plutôt progressif dans sa construction. Le groupe de Metalcore nous montre ici qu’ils ont encore pleins de choses à nous présenter et ça fait plaisir !
Alors qu’en dire ? Annisokay nous montre ici toute l’étendue de son savoir-faire et ajoute à sa discographie des titres soignés et percutants. Si vous aimez le Metal Moderne aux sonorités diverses et avec des éléments d’Electro, nous ne pouvons que vous recommander d’écouter cet EP et, très sûrement, son frère Abyss (partie une!). Les deux semblent avoir été fait pour se compléter et on vous le confirme : ils fonctionnent à la perfection ensemble ! Les six nouveaux titres présentés par les allemands nous auront tous séduits pour des raisons différentes, un vrai coup de coeur. Nous avons hâte de voir Annisokay de retour en France, ils organisent d’ailleurs leur première concert en tête d’affiche en fin d’année à Paris !

[ENGLISH VERSION] Annisokay is back in the game with a new EP titled Abyss Part II, released on Arising Empire on April 11th. Indeed, it’s the follow-up to their last EP, released in 2023 and titled Abyss. The German Metalcore band seems to have taken the concept further: the covers of the two EPs form a face stuck together. A continuity, then, but what can we say after a year and a half of waiting?
The EP begins gently with Get the Shit Together. However, this will be short-lived, as the Germans offer us a track whose intensity gradually increases. And boy, what a pleasure! We’re not disappointed because it features everything we love about them: the slightly electro vibe, clear, soft vocals accompanied by powerful screamo, and above all: an abysmal break. Short but terribly effective. Upon first listening to their release, we understand that we won’t be disappointed, quite the contrary! Never Enough, placed behind this first track, offers a powerful bass sound accompanied by effective power chords on the guitar. The track is catchy and we can’t help but imagine it live. Annisokay seems to have found a style that suits them with a fast tempo, a background enhanced by electronic effects, and very catchy tracks. Oblivion continues in this same vein. The atmosphere is dark, soaring, almost like Northlane! The powerful growl gives substance to the sound, which passes by far too quickly. We find ourselves playing it a second time during our first listen to appreciate its consistency once again. The breakdown is an explosion of anger boosted by the electro of the instrumental, the track ends with it.
Into the Gray begins after this outburst as if to calm everything down. We witness a song that’s deeply emotional and much softer. We appreciate the vocals of the band’s lead singer, and we imagine this will be a well-deserved break in the live version! The EP definitely presents us with diverse tracks, all very effective. But above all, they all seem to work very well together! H.A.T.E returns to the violence after this short lull. The German band Annisokay offers us a feature with Any Given Day. The energies of the two groups work well together: the singer of Any Given Day has a drastically different voice from Christoph‘s. He therefore complements this slightly different track very well, vocally, and it results in a controlled but different, and therefore interesting, breakdown. Inner Sanctum closes this EP, which we devoured on repeat after our first listen. The track is calmer but still catchy. It ends Abyss Part II with melodies that stay in our heads. The instrumental is clean, heavy, and polished; far from being smooth, the track is rather progressive in its construction. The Metalcore band shows us here that they still have plenty to offer us, and it’s a pleasure!
So what can we say? Annisokay shows us the full extent of their expertise here and adds polished and impactful tracks to their discography. If you like Modern Metal with diverse sounds and electronic elements, we can only recommend listening to this EP and, most likely, its brother, Abyss (part one!). The two seem to have been made to complement each other, and we can confirm: they work perfectly together! The six new tracks presented by the Germans have all won us over for different reasons; a real favorite. We can’t wait to see Annisokay back in France; they’re also organizing their first headline concert at the end of the year in Paris!
