[English version below] Le 18 octobre, l’Élysée Montmartre affichait complet pour accueillir THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, accompagné de 156/SILENCE et OVERSIZE.
Sur Swept From Under (Call of the void), la salle explose littéralement.
[ENGLISH VERSION] On October 18th, the Élysée Montmartre was sold out for the arrival of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, supported by 156/SILENCE and OVERSIZE. Three bands, three distinct vibes, and an evening that steadily built in intensity, eventually turning the Parisian venue into a high-energy release valve. Thanks to Opus Live for the invitation, and to Justine for the photos of this memorable night.
Doors opened at 6:30 PM, and the evening got underway quickly; by 7:00 PM, OVERSIZE was already on stage. The British band delivered a brand of rock infused with grunge and shoegaze influences, a perfect light, and contemplative start to the night. The venue was already well-populated, with a portion of the audience clearly familiar with the tracks. On stage, the two vocalists brought great energy, though some of their clean-vocal passages felt a bit hesitant at times. Their screams, used more sparingly, were, however, quite well executed.
The band took a moment to thank the crowd for coming and invited everyone to meet them at the merch stand after the show. Although the venue continued to fill up during their set, the audience remained relatively static, seemingly content to simply drift along with the atmosphere. Even so, OVERSIZE received warm applause at the end of their performance, a pleasant opening act that set a relaxed tone before the radical shift in mood that was to follow.
At 7:50 PM, 156/SILENCE took the stage, greeted by the cheers of an audience that had clearly been eagerly awaiting them. From the very first notes, the atmosphere shifted: the crowd began to roar, a mosh pit erupted, and the first crowdsurfers quickly appeared. The band didn’t even need to work hard to get a reaction from the crowd. Songs followed one another at a frantic pace, featuring devastating breakdowns, raw, gritty screams, and passages that instantly compelled everyone to let loose. During Swept From Under (Call of the Void), the venue literally explodes. The band’s call to « split this fuckin’ room » ignites a massive circle pit, and the crowd eagerly responds to requests for heavy crowdsurfing. The performance is impressive, both in terms of the energy unleashed and the quality of the sound and mix. The vocalist demonstrates a real talent for shifting between vocal styles and ratcheting up the tension; each breakdown feels more intense than the last, and the « walls of death » make for some truly striking scenes.
When the band announces their final song, only one thought comes to mind: we would have gladly stayed for another hour! 156/SILENCE delivered a set worthy of a headliner, perfectly setting the stage for what was to come.
At 8:45 PM, an electronic intro paired with a stunning light show signals the arrival of THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. The musicians take the stage one by one, each greeted by an ovation. A circular screen adorned with a flower, combined with atmospheric lighting and smoke pouring from the sides, creates a magnificent stage setup. The band appears to be in top form, visibly thrilled to be back in Paris, and the atmosphere instantly turns festive: heads are banging, the crowd is singing along, and, naturally, the mosh pit kicks back into high gear. The band strikes an effective balance between tracks from their latest album, Flowers, and older material. During « Watchtower, » the audience immediately answers the call for a circle pit, and they go on to belt out « Salt » with great fervor.
The lead singer warmly thanks Paris, mentioning the high praise the band LANDMVRKS had for the French audience. One thing is certain: the crowd proved them right! During « Broken, » a steady stream of crowdsurfers makes its way across the pit, while « Everybody Knows » further cements this powerful moment of connection. The more aggressive tracks then reignite the intensity, notably « Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over« , before « Ritual » proves to be one of the evening’s major highlights. Lyrics are screamed at the top of lungs, the crowd dances, and the mosh pit erupts during the breakdown.
Between songs, the band takes time to engage with the crowd, thanking the fans, at one point even receiving a bouquet of flowers from someone in the front row. This sense of closeness adds to the overall great atmosphere. During « Sacrifice, » the mosh pit reaches impressive proportions, bringing a particularly generous main set to a close. But the Parisian audience isn’t done yet; chants for an encore echo throughout the venue.
Before the final song, the lead singer thanks the fans once more, apologizes for a previously cut-short concert (alongside ICE NINE KILLS and LANDMVRKS), and reminds everyone of the importance of looking out for one another. He also reflects on the band’s twenty-year history, expressing his gratitude for the fact that they are still able to perform today. It is a sincere and touching speech, perfectly in keeping with a band that has lost none of its passion.
The encore brings the evening to a fantastic conclusion, harking back to the band’s roots and delighting long-time fans.
A successful evening from start to finish, featuring the discovery of OVERSIZE, the onslaught of 156/SILENCE, and a performance by THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA that was generous, energetic, and full of gratitude toward the audience. Paris certainly showed up!
